Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

The Steelers can chose whether the NFL fines are to be enforced or not. Sometimes teams wave fines / current contract salaries in good faith of getting a new / extension contract done. It is all part of the strategy of negotiation.

Back to the original claim of Steelers forfeiting to pay wages is by far from what reality is.

I hold true, the Steelers have all the leverage, JPJ would by far benefit by getting himself onto the field of play. If he ****-s around to much, injured reserve could end his season. His value would drop significantly.

PS. Currently he is not “holding out” but out due to injury. Until he is a healthy scratch, then the TEAM will determine wether he is a hold out or not.

Are you not paying attention? It was reported in the Post-Gazette today, by a Steelers source, that Porter WAS A HEALTHY SCRATCH. Not only have they not fined him, they are paying him his not to play. Thats beyond good faith, that’s bending over and grabbing their ankles.

Injured reserve will not hurt his value. Actual injury would. If he can pass a physical, he has value.

McCarthy flat out said he would have to go through a ramp up period first.

The tag will be well below the current market next year. about 24 mil.
Regardless, it’ll be much more than his current salary.
Somebody tell the Steelers' players' union rep Cam Heyward to tell JPJ that's the deal his union agreed to.

Right, unlike Roger’s, Metcalf, Watt, Heyward, Ramsey….
Those guys were at least practicing though, even if they weren't playing in pre-season games.

The Steelers won't give him the upfront guaranteed money he wants of around $100 million. I don't blame them but they have been giving players more than just 1 year guaranteed as I've been reading this morning. I can easily see them give him $50 or $60 million guaranteed with a possible roster bonus after 2 years. That is a good offer. It's not what he wants but as with other players that left in the past, they were offered similar or more money but were a bit behind in the guaranteed part.

It's too late now. He'll leave after this season or next if they tag him. They have no leverage in a trade and would have to settle for most likely a 3rd round pick as teams know he will be on his way out and he has no contract.

I think they are looking to trade him. They aren't getting any 1st round offers. Omar has to decide if a lesser offer will do.

Sn.com article says Steelers offered 33M gteed. That's about the same as yr 1, which isn't much of a gtee. Doubling that gtees 2 and a bit years only.....seems much less than other teams and a reasonable base.

Strange negotiating tactic by the Steelers. I do not understand it because it varies from league evolution.

It is odd as Watt, Heyward, and some others have gotten more than 1 year guaranteed. I'm not sure about the guys that just signed this offseason but JPJ should get more guaranteed than any of them. This could be a major f-up if they only offered him 1 year guaranteed. Just when we thought the Rooney's were getting with the times.

It would be nice to be a fly on the wall to be able to get actual real information.

Most of what we are hearing is based off speculation or unidentifiable sources.

I’m not saying it’s all false, but also acknowledge no 100% true source.

As this whole thing changes on the fly, both sides will not be winners regardless.

Joey won’t get all he wants and the Steelers will pay more or trade for less than they want to.

The Franchise tag sounds all great and to a degree it is, but so many things can go wrong for both sides (think Bell) / injury / lower trade value / no contract extension…. Amongst the events.

Why should he get more guaranteed? Look, I like JPJ. But when has ever impacted a game to the degree that Watt and Heyward did just on Sunday, for example?
