Kinda shocking Benton got paid first which definitely goes to support your statement. Heck the rotation piece situational pass rusher got paid right out of the gate…
Either they are way apart on money or as you stated they are not valuing the CB position as a priority.
JPJ reportedly wants to be the highest-paid CB in the NFL. I don't think he is the best. He's top 10 and maybe top 5, but I think that is a stretch. If so, as I mentioned elsewhere, he is looking for around $35 million per season with nearly $100 million guaranteed, when I think the Steelers are closer to $25 million. If someone offers a 1st and some change, I think they might take it.

I think the Steelers have made what they consider to be a FAIR offer.
Many here have a bloated feeling on money as he definately wants over-paid.
ADD in the “mouth” of dad, wether in his ear or actual negotiations (terrible agent if that is the case).
Bottom line is the Steelers feel they have a very good back up inn Asaunte Samuels & have offered what they feel is a fair price.
Without knowing the numbers $$$$, we all are only speculating.

The market for CB has exploded with Witherspoon (33M), McDuffie ($31M), Gardner ($30.1M), and Stingley Jr. ($30M) and obviously the "impasse" as Big Mike called it is that Joey sees himself in their company and the Steelers do not. With Ramsey making roughly (24M) the Steelers are probably looking at the $26-27M range. Because he was a 2nd round pick he has no fifth year option but the Steelers could franchise tag his *** in 2027 but that would be really stupid as Joey would be as good as gone the following season.
I believe the plausible outcome will be a 4 year extension, $104M ($26M per), $60-70M guaranteed with a signing bonus of $25-30M to keep the 2026 cap hit near $8-10M.
If they're looking to trade, Send him to the Raiders who are consistent bottom feeders for a 2027 Rd1 plus 2028 Rd3 pick which should be top 12-15 range.

Sure.. Plausible for the Steelers. Joey is probably asking for in the $34 mill range. I don't see Joey taking anything less $30 mill per year. And that might be to light for him to accept.
If he were a top 5 corner in the league, he would no longer be a flag magnet or has that improved significantly?
If 34 is his number and 100 guaranteed (purely speculation) then I'd be on the phone to the historically worst team in the league not named the Browns.

Le'Veon earned every penny. They wouldn't step up. It ruined his career and the Steelers run game.
They better not overpay JPJ, he's earned nothing in comparison.
He's the highest penalized guy in the league, 0 accolades,
Let's not pretend Joey made the defensive backfield elite or even remotely close.
The Steelers got dogwalked in the passing game half the time and by some very suspect QB's and WR last season.

If he is to be the highest paid CB in the league it has to be elsewhere…no damn way the D can afford a 35million corner without cutting some other bloated contract like JR.
I wouldn’t go over 30, and a 30 contract would require the termination of some other bloated defensive contracts next year at the latest.
Grab the first and whatever else ya can get and start investing in offense if Joey Sr has him over valuing his services.

He is not elite which would mean he’d be top 5 and that is not where he is. Could he get there, perhaps but he hasn’t even made a pro bowl yet.
If Joey was elite top 5, then teams would be lining up offering at least one number one pick and I don’t believe that’s happened.
I think he has not endeared himself to the new coaching staff with how he’s handled this. Wasn’t part of off season activities, no activity at training camp, pre season games. That can’t be sitting well with the new staff.
I think before they pay him they’d like to know how he fits into Patrick Graham’s defense.
Even then I wouldn’t look for anything north of 28 million per. Also, how much guaranteed money does he want? That could be a big stumbling block.

I get that, but I just think Porter has developed into a really good CB and don't want to see them lose young talent while they're paying aging veterans on the defense on the downside of their careers. Outside of OL, they have some pieces on offense locked in long enough to maybe get some of the older defenders off the books.
Now I've seen a lot of scheme fit talk regarding Porter this week. If this coaching staff can't maximize Porter's talent within their scheme, that's bad coaching IMO.

The money Joey Jr is asking for is what a Generational Talent like a Rod Woodson would make during modern times. Joey Jr is a very good cover corner but in 3 seasons he has 3 INT's and he's been toasted several times throughout his career and he's not worth the asking price. Sorry but I'm not sorry! Trade his A$$ and get something for him because next year he will just walk in Free Agency!

Yeah....the interception angle is a bad argument....especially when you bring in the numbers of the other CBs that are now getting paid. I am sure Porter sees it also.
I'd offer Joey McHandsy 29M per year over 4 - fully guaranteed - take it or leave it.
That 1st round + 2nd round next year will make me feel better anyway...

fully guaranteed contracts are not standard practice for the Steelers. Say 75M guaranteed (about 3 seasons) would make more sense, to have an exit in the final year if things go wrong. TJ Watt was all pro and HOF bound when he got 108M guaranteed out of 123M
I missed who, but one of the pundits doesn't even have JPJ in the top 10 CB's. I think he is probably at the back end of the top 10, and there is no way I make him the highest paid in the league. I still think $25 million per year is a good offer.
