Like a frying pan?All I know is, you gave that money to a rotational guy when you have a top 10 CB who needs paid. They better have a pan to sign Porter.
If Porter was a first rounder, the Steelers couldn't have exercised the fifth year options, as Porter wouldn't be a Steeler. If Miami hadn't lost their pick the Steelers would still have had the first pick of the second round - it would have been 33 instead of 32.Weird situation with Porter. He was the 32nd pick of the draft, which is usually a 1st round pick. Because Miami lost their number 1 pick that year, Porter ended up being the 1st pick of the 2nd round. If he was a 1st rounder, the Steelers could exercise the 5th year option and kick the can down the road.
The price will only go up by waiting. There are still some stud CBs who need deals. Is it possible the Steelers just don't want to pay a CB that type of money?Weird situation with Porter. I am just imagining Porter every time some CB signs for a gazillionThe price will only go up by waiting. There are still some stud CBs who need deals. Is it possible the Steelers just don't want to pay a CB that type of money?
I don’t think it is anything but a difficult negotiation based on value of play and position. For me it was never going to be done quickly. His agent knew how many top CBs were going to get paid and paid handsomely. I think the perimeters are there now. Now it is just going through the process. Opposed to earlier the agent was pausing and thinking let us see how this unfolds…The price will only go up by waiting. There are still some stud CBs who need deals. Liked but dislikeJust saw he is the highest paid DL in team history. Cam is going to be pissed. I wonder if he'll threaten to hold out for more money.![]()
Well Cam would have a case to.....after all....it isn't like Benton won the Man of the year award like Cam has.Just saw he is the highest paid DL in team history. Cam is going to be pissed. I wonder if he'll threaten to hold out for more money.![]()

So many on here think if we would have signed him right away it would have saved money. It takes 2 to tango. JR’s agent played it perfectly so far. Joey would have been nuts to sign right away. Knowing all these top guys around the league were signing as well. If Joey has the same year as last, on the open market someone would pay 30+ million easily. The price will only go up by waiting. Another way to look at it from a competitive standpoint......if they just sucked it up and paid him 28 to 30 right away the other playoff team would have been forced to sign for even more.......sometimes being first is bestSo many on here think if we would have signed him right away it would have saved money. We’ve all waited for a top 5 CB for as long as I can remember. This is the reality.
By the time we sign a young franchise QB to a second contract it might be 100 million a year.![]()
My whole point was…… what if he didn’t want to sign right away? He was right to wait.Another way to look at it from a competitive standpoint......if they just sucked it up and paid him 28 to 30 right away the other playoff team would have been forced to sign for even more.......sometimes being first is best
