Steelers free safety situation.

yeap: Ramsey, Elliot, Brisker, rookie Spear, Castro, now Savage. Am I missing someone? the bad part is that none of them is a pure FS
Why isn’t Savage ? He started his career in GB as primarily a FS…

They should have drafted Dillon Thieneman. They would have had their guy for the next 6 + years. Instead of all these old slow scrap heaps. By the way Ramsey looked subpar. For big, big, bucks. I would have tried to trade him after drafting my new young star on a 5 year rookie contract.

because now apparently he is not that athletic as in his younger years and spent his last season on 3 different teams, not finding much playing time in any. He is no safety net anymore, hopefully he bounces back and has a couple more years on the tank but odds are against it

I was pounding the table for Dillon but I think Brisker and Broderick threw monkey wrenches in that approach for different reasons. Less single high concepts and the injury question mark…

True I get that but as I mentioned in another comment I don’t think schematically they will be playing single high much if at all. They also have better CB tandem and CB depth so they can do some things with this secondary. I mean Savage probably still comes with concerns. But I think Brisker can hold down the shorter field. Not sure opposite that but with all those bodies perhaps one can play opposite and be ok…

Brisker is signed for 1 whole year. On obviously a prove it deal, and basically was a huge disappointment. Not exactly rah, rah, for the future. I was talking about Dillon already when he was a duck. Thought there was no way he’d fall to us,mentioned him numerous times,And was yelling from afar when he dropped down towards us. Whatever happened to BPA in the draft? Time will tell.

As far as Jones and injury correlating with Max’s pick. Out of the one thousand or so mock drafts on this site I can’t remember one picking Max. He’s a project that pretty well everyone including media had in the second round. If not later. I’ve always thought Troy could go to the LT position that he was drafted and played throughout his career. They panicked.
Steelers have been missing a star FS with sideline to sideline speed for years now.
Time will tell.

I like mock drafts but will not pretend they are equivalent to teams boards. Max as I said after the pick has elite athleticism. He was mocked later due to having a small sample size. That is the only thing small in the kid. He held his own against top tier competition in college and also did well in the senior bowl.

I think with a little molding he will be special..

I get the sense from analysts who focus on the offensive line than Max is less of a project than Jones was. That's a plus.

I think his last season there was enough there that makes sense, performance wise…

He was on my short list as the Steelers pick approached as well. However, Khan/Weidl basically only draft premium positions in the first two rounds, so I had realistic expectations.

They definitely love the trenches. Broderick’s injury helped them stay the course.

Good thing that they had plenty of picks to stock need.

Thinking. Room full of safety's. , is Jalen ramsey safe from the axe?
Big salary, declining skills and speed. We have cheaper options. Idk I'm just not impressed by him. He can scream at the air all he wants after a tackle. He's no troy. And he's not even ryan clark any more.
This is my take, call me crazy.

I think it depends what he does at inside CB and to a lesser extent S two high capable. If he shines at one or both I think he sticks. But if he shows decline in training camp he would be a cut that makes sense. Only thing is their S room isn’t glowing with talent. So he probably sticks especially with Elliot coming off injury.

Just me, if I had a time machine, I would’ve liked Haulcy and Allar. Respectively, it would’ve been picks three “a” and four “a.” They have a lot of bodies and some flexibility with where to put guys. Hopefully, something works well. Graham and Co. revived Stokes. Maybe they can do some good work with personnel groups?

I think our D had about three games when it was truly special last year and they all came with Ramsey at safety. Assuming he's still Jalen Ramsey there's no way I'd want him cut.
