Hay Coach, Check this out!

My issue with Gregory is the same issue that I stated him as undraftable BEFORE the draft when his failed drug screen were first reported from the combine. The kid is an addict. He admits it when he talks about doing it 'every day' in the past and 'thinking about it everyday like he used to'. 3 drug fails in under 2 years and you're bringing this kid to a league where his 3rd failed drug test has him hanging out with Josh Gordon? It's too much of a risk to loose this kid's potential productivity to failed drug tests.

His potential on the field is high, his potential to get high is higher...

There's "Wonderlic Smart" and there's "Common Sense Smart". You can make it in the NFL w/out "Wonderlic Smart". You will have a helluva lot harder time doing so w/out "Common Sense Smart". I don't know what Gregory's Wonderlic score was, but he's already shown an alarming lack of common sense.

Yep! My sentiments exactly. Here is a guy who knows he will be tested for drugs at the combine but still smokes prior to the testing and costs himself a first round selection and a lot of money. Thats a definate problem right there. He couldn't resist the temptation until at least after the combine drug testing. I would think one would want to be at their very best at this event. Thats a red flag that you cannot ignore if you're the GM and HC of a professional football team.

Yes his size. Hell, we all ***** about Uncle Jarvis looking like a punter so why is Gregory's body any different? He's got less bulk than Jones and as Steel Buck says, he apparently has trouble keeping it on. This won't be the Big 12 any longer for Randy. Now he's in the big boy league where 320 lb tackles who hit like freight trains is the norm. Look, I hope the kid gets his act togeher and figures it out and becomes a star. If not he will soon find out just exactly what the NFL really stands for if you're not ready and at your best. "Not For Long".
jarvis wishes he looked like Steve weatherford. So he doesn't look like all punters just the smaller ones

Winston scored a 27. Johnny Rehab a 32. If memory serves Gregory was in the high 20's.

Maybe you didn't understand what I wrote. None of those scores relates to "Common Sense". Each of the above three are sorely lacking COMMON SENSE. That is the biggest threat to one or all of them as it pertains to being able to stay in the NFL. Not their Wonderlic scores.

Edit: Well, for Johnny it's a lack of common sense and the ability to accurately throw a football.

I got it. I was just saying the wonderlic isn't a good judge common sense and listed some higher scores. In Manziel's case he's a diva. Gregory's a pot head. We'll see if he can control it, and Winston well he had some issues with the law. If its a QB, I think character matters the most. A pass rusher? If he can get the job done and pass his drug test, he'll be tolerated.

Why do you have so much concerns for Gregory being in the drug program and not Bell? Bell could just as easily fail another test as Gregory could, right? And Bell's already been suspended, so who knows what the next penalty is.

It doesn't take much to get off the drug program list in the NFL. I think it's no more than a year clean.

And honestly, the hate for the Cowboys doesn't make a lot of sense anymore. Any rivalry we've had with them is 20+ years over. They are in the NFC. It's highly doubtful we see them any time soon in any meaningful playoff game (that would just be too many stars aligning). Both of our dynasties are long gone. We're both just good teams hoping to make a run.

Del,

You have some great commentary with players, but you have this strange habit of insisting that other Steeler fans adopt your normative view of things like other teams (P*ts before, now Cowgirls). You couch your judgments on those who post here in terms such that you imply negativism towards those that think/feel differently than you. That is fine to be critical of other Steeler fans, but in that light, it seems inconsistent not to give them the same respect as they feel the desire to be critical of other teams like the Che*triots or the CryGirls, or Rats.

OK, I get where you're coming from. My thinking on Gregory and common sense is that he's had ample opportunities to show that he can pass a drug test when he KNOWS when the test is and has failed multiple times (including college) to show the restraint and common sense to quit in time to test negative. I think his particular type of lack of common sense will get him the "Josh Gordon" treatment sooner rather than later.

Gregory and Dupree are not an either or situation. You don't have to like one and hate the other. Going into this draft, more than anything, i wanted to come away with a stud pass rusher. Not a guy who's pretty good. A stud. A guy who commands double teams changes the offense's gameplan.

The guy i wanted was Gregory. He is a natural pass rusher. He has the long frame and the instincts. He also has a frame that can add plenty of weight if necessary. I did not want Beasley or Shane Ray. I think they are one trick ponies who can just run upfield and that's it.

I didn't see Dupree during the season and i didn't look at that much of his film because he was always projected to go top 10. What i saw, i liked but i liked the high ceiling of Gregory more. He was the guy i wanted.

Then the drug stuff came about. This went beyond a guy smoking a little weed. This seemed psychological, a guy self medicating to escape something. That's when i dropped Gregory down in my mind. This was too big a pick to risk on a guy who might be the defensive version of Justin Blackmon.
