Hot is in relation to what you get used to, increase the temperature 30 degrees and it is hot period. When I moved to Texas my kids went outside to see if you really could fry an egg on the sidewalk.
That's encouraging however this is pre-camp :” coachspeak “
Over the years I seen nice things said on rookies who looked good in mini camp. Troy Edwards, Scott, Sheilds. Jeremy Staat, and Huey Richardson come to mind.
The only one I never head “ Coach speak “was Jamain Stephens, but I could be wrong. The guy flat out could not play.
When I hear Gilbert or Beachum rave about Dupree, it will mean much more.
Here’s my thoughts on Dupree. Obviously he has a very good speed rush that worked in college, but he also lacked technique, and according to scouts was a tick slow to react.
If Durpee speed rush is enough, he can make an impact as a rookie in the NFL If not, he’ll learn how to disengage from blocks / learn a pass rush counter move and won't make much of an impact as a rookie.
With Jarvis Jones setting the bar low enough for a rookie free agent to jump over if given the chance ( J. Jones had but 1 sack his rookie season ), I expect Dupree to quickly be the better of the two. The question is just how good is he?! Let’s hope he’s not the next Vernon Ghoultson. AKA a marvelous athlete with better college production that could not adjust to the NFL. I see a Lamar Woodley type. Durpee is a bit better vs the run, but not quite as a good as a pass rusher. We shall see in time.
Coachspeak? When did Jarvis become a coach?
I'm still confused on where you stand with Dupree. You seem to take every chance to bash the pick and then belittle him, but then you also include a sentence where you say he might turn out to be great.
Hang out with MT for a while and anyone can get good at it. Obviously.Coachspeak? When did Jarvis become a coach?
Where do I stand on Dupree? I like Gregory a bit better on the field. I wish we picked him in round one or two.
.

I really take these OTA and training camp reviews of rookies with a grain of salt. Last year Dri Archer was lighting it up all training camp and how did that work out? The year before Jarvis Jones was unstoppable and how did that work out? I suspect Dupree and Golson will look like LT and Darrell Green in camp and then we will get smacked with a fist full of reality in September.
Randy Gregory is built like a WR and weighs about as much as one too. If he doesn't add some strength and weight, he's gonna get ragdolled in the ground game. Toothpick legs and arms smaller than Jarvis Jones. Speed will only get you so far in the NFL (as we've seen with Archer). Having an NFL ready body counts too.
That's not even discussing his love of Mary Jane, problems keeping on weight and mental issues. The dude is a few cookies short of a dozen; because he ate them when he had the munchies .... and then threw them up.

Cowboys rookie Randy Gregory fared well against All-Pro offensive tackle Tyron Smith during Wednesday's organized team activities.
"He’s a swifty kid," Smith said. "He’s pretty quick, a different type of rusher. He’s going to be pretty good."

Gregory continues to try to add weight to his 6-5 frame. He weighed 235 at the combine. He’s now 243.

So then these OTA's and training camp reviews mean little to you. Of course thats entirely your prerogative but I have to disagree. Sure you'll always have a Dri Archer that lights it up then falls flat when it matters but you also have guys like Leveon Bell, Kendrell Bell, Markice Pouncey,MIke Wallace, to name a few who had good rookie training camps and did pretty damn good when it counted that first season. Hell K.Bell even won defensive rookie of the year. I think you will see Dupree have a good training camp and I think he will push for playing time this season as well.I also think Golson and Grant will surprise a lot of folks and continue to get better as the season progresses.
As for his weight now: Gregory continues to try to add weight to his 6-5 frame. He weighed 235 at the combine. He’s now 243.
Dude, I don't know about that. According to the caption, this is in May at mini-camp.

I could care less about him smoking pot.
I'd bet 90+% of us don't care, inherently, that he smokes pot. What we care about is that there may be some inability for him to NOT smoke pot, especially, if he has other mental health issues that make him have more dependency on chemical highs than a normal pot smoker may have. How long does he stay on your team with that risk? On top of some apparent mental health issues?
I'd also bet that none of us want him, necessarily, to fail outside the fact of the uniform he wears. I hope he overcomes his issues, too, but that is my hope for his personal journey. If he is wearing a Cowboys jersey, I hope he is on a losing team every year.
Why do you have so much concerns for Gregory being in the drug program and not Bell? Bell could just as easily fail another test as Gregory could, right? And Bell's already been suspended, so who knows what the next penalty is.
And honestly, the hate for the Cowboys doesn't make a lot of sense anymore. Any rivalry we've had with them is 20+ years over. They are in the NFC. It's highly doubtful we see them any time soon in any meaningful playoff game (that would just be too many stars aligning). Both of our dynasties are long gone. We're both just good teams hoping to make a run.
My issue with Gregory is not that he smokes pot. It's that he couldn't stop smoking pot in order to pass the drug test at the combine. As far as his mental health issues, I'm not without compassion for him. However, there is a risk in taking a player with known mental health issues; guys quit, go on "walkabout", shoot their girlfriend and show up at your facility ... you'd have to determine if his issues were that serious and if you had the support program to monitor/help him. A lot of teams determined that the issues were and they didn't have an adequate system of support.
My biggest problem with Gregory is that he's little. Like Jarvis Jones little. Yeah, he's fast/quick. But he's small for an OLB and with his problems keeping weight on, I wonder if he'd have problems matching up with NFL LTs.
