SAVE Act

Sounds like an old episode of Seinfeld.

This is not satire. This actually happened.
Connecticut Democratic leaders introduced, passed through both chambers, and had their Democratic governor sign an emergency bill — SB 299 — requiring anyone who cashes in more than 1,000 cans or bottles in a day to present a copy of their driver's license.
The reason: out-of-state residents were crossing into Connecticut to take advantage of its higher 10-cent bottle return rate versus 5 cents elsewhere, costing the state significant revenue.
Fraud is being committed. The state is losing money. The fix is obvious: require ID. Emergency bill. Done.
Now. Connecticut does not require its residents to present any form of identification to vote. Voters simply attest under penalty of law that they are a United States citizen.
And both of Connecticut's Democratic senators — Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy — voted against advancing the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
So to summarize the Connecticut Democratic position:
Fraud involving 10-cent can deposits crossing state lines? Emergency legislation. Driver's license required. No debate.
Fraud involving non-citizens potentially voting in federal elections? Impossible. Racist. A voter purge bill. Absolutely not.
Anna Pingel of the America First Policy Institute put it cleanly: "What is more important to safeguard — bottles or ballots?"
Senator Blumenthal's defense is that the SAVE Act requires documents 21 million Americans don't have. That is the same argument applied to can recycling — some people don't have driver's licenses — and Connecticut didn't find it persuasive when their nickel deposits were at stake.
The principle that ID requirements are discriminatory and burdensome evaporates the moment Democrats have a financial interest in preventing fraud. It returns the moment Republicans want to apply the same logic to elections.

So, Marxists are hypocrites. What's new?

I saw this video a day or two ago. I don’t know what people don’t understand about this. Sure, you can make excuses for republicans, “they have their flaws,” but whether or not you think republicans and democrats are on the same team, they certainly aren’t on our team. None of them. It’s all political theater. Too many Americans are under the spell of politicians. Ready to believe everything “my side” says or does.

Neither republicans nor democrats are going to “save America.” They are going to milk it for as much as they can, and leave you holding the bag. You, YOU are the only people that can save the republic. Politicians have no interest in saving it. They only care how much money they can extract from you. That’s it.

I’m over this republican v democrat horse hockey. When it all falls apart, and it will, which politician is going to suffer the same hardship the average American will suffer? Are republicans so benevolent that they are going to suffer with you? Unlikely. It’s a game, a big club that the average American isn’t invited to participate in.

If they're really serious they'll get it done one way or another. I'm personally sick of all of them. We are not longer represented in any way, shape or form.

Republicans are their own worst enemy. Seems every other election cycle, they manage to show where the dems messed up, get themselves elected to a majority, then do absolutely nothing other than fight amongst themselves and get voted out. It’s why I’m done with that party. I’m just disappointed there’s no viable alternative.

That's by design. No doubt about it.

I think so too. There has to be an illusion of opposition at least. It’s at least part of the reason why republicans get so little done when they are in the majority. I mean, democrats have republicans ready to cave on the TSA stuff, but the democrats decided to move the goalposts again so there wasn’t any deal.

I want to believe that there are two opposed parties, but the democrats in congress seem to accomplish so much more even when in the minority. It’s the kind of thing that makes people suspicious.

I'm sure it goes back further but I took notice when the Republicans could have wound back Obamacare but didn't but were all up in arms against when they were in the minority but came nowhere close to setting up obstructions and resistance like the Dems do when they're "not in power". The Democrats are always in power. It's just all a grand illusion when the Republicans are in power. Not sure why I even care anymore. Nothing I can do about it.

Just got my taxes ,owe yet again this year. you have people out there that pay ZERO taxes and collect a welfare check getting back 14 or 15 thousand a year and I owe 2 grand again this year because the ******* government deems it necessary to ******* tax 85% of my SS which in and of itself is a tax. because the wife and I file jointly which we have forever they count her income against my SS. along with what I get from retirement.

She will never get to touch a dime of my SS because we both will draw about the same but they count her wages against me to get more in taxes. I am so sick of this **** I can't hardly see straight.

The wife claims zero dependents and has an additional 200 a month taken out of her check for fed taxes and we still owe every ******* year. Generational welfare lives and eats better then we do and never had a ******* job in their life. I worked my *** off for 45 ******* years and still get taxed out my mother ******* *** to support these dead beat **** suckers.Just think how much worse it would be if we had a ******* liberal in office, although I use to say that's why I vote conservative but that don't even seem to matter any more. They are ALL a bunch of ******* crooked *** theives.

This ******* government just has to keep squeezing every drop of ******* blood out of you until six months after you ******* die.

WHERE IS THE COUNTRY I GREW UP IN, I WANT IT ******* BACK !!!!!!
