Tampering grades————-Steelers

When you factor in the cost, compare it to what you had last year financially, it seems more like a push. If you read what I posted days back, it was the highest grade. This doesn’t make it a bad signing. In my eyes, it seems like a push.
I can see the level of play being a push when you factor Gainwell's receiving ability over Dowdle's. However, cost really doesn't make a difference in terms of talent. Players are either good or they aren't and better players are going to cost more money. I value running backs running the ball more than catching it, which is why I rated the move as an upgrade.

Warren is a damn good receiver himself. He lost touches to Gainwell in that department. I think he will get more third down looks.

You too coach.

😃

How about you tell me what your free agency plan was? I want to hear from you. Coach? I seldom coach anything and not this. In fact, I’ve never had any aspirations for coaching football. It wasn’t in my list of five or six life goals. Sometimes being a sarcastic *** is acceptable, like when you’re drunk. If you’re sober and it’s constant or serious crap goes down, it’s being an a**. So best of luck and have fun!

Warren is a true 3rd down RB. Featuring him has been good to date, but I’m not sure his durability will hold up.

A power back with a little more speed than what Harris executed, can catch, is what is needed.

That is why Gainwells replacement was a power back. Someone who can do the pounding to save Warren for better use.

I think that G will come within the first three rounds. Which could possibly be a push. They did add a free agent G that can help stop the bleeding.

TBH, from what I saw the run game was more successful with Anderson than Semualo. The primary issue with plugging Anderson at LG is they lost their versatility of the movable 6th OL in the AS heavy sets.

Isaac was decent, but highly replaceable, like many of the higher paid Steelers’ contracts with the aging players.

Definitely need to add some more OL talent and depth as games are indeed won in the trenches, but I’m not losing any sleep over IS departing and I doubt McCarthy is either.

When Gainwell is the team’s best receiver the team has fundamental issues.

He had a great year for the Steelers, but his numbers were indeed a product of necessity as the WR room had a meh WR1- good WR2 and zilch behind that.

Over-paid and slipping to down-ward trend, can be replace with less pay and bigger up-side.

ADD in the + or - 3yards of the line of scrimmage passes, a geriatric QB, all causing a RB to feast on that type of scheme.

Hopefully with the new parts (except geriatric QB), things will be better on offense.

This isn’t directed at you but we may be angling towards a similar point. So far, what we got with free agency was the Macy’s makeover. The bespoke tailor, curated stylist option would’ve been ideal. Yeah, the Macy’s version is a step up, but, that next level is sure fly. Again, so far, the moves satisfy the talking heads who churn the media storm and it quiets some of the disgruntled fans. Yet, it just lacks some sort of nuance to it. There’s an old adage, “when you think you’ve found a good move, find a better one.”

I hear what you are saying and by no means would ever be offended with a differing opinion.

We as fans always expect / want / see things that could be better.

We as fans develop an over expectation of what is actually available for betterment.

The Steelers did a pretty dang good job on acquisitions vs cap space vs potential position of draft picks to come.

It’s easy to pick here and nit pick there, but often the overall picture is missed by one single “should have” done move.

They deserve a “atta boy” for free agency as they did pretty well over all.

This is where I have an issue. It’s their job. Again, the nuance is not there. When you don’t see nuance, you’re missing some value plays. Also, those metaphorical diamonds in the rough go undiscovered. Sometimes, risk is better than a regurgitation of a similar story. What I thought they should’ve done is in here, it doesn’t conflict with all of their moves. Maybe, it conflicts some of them.
