He was at Bama...Think how you would feel if Tua had to be the winning factor in a game.
A big part is how much you trust Mike McCarthy to put a young QB in position to succeed. Also, what is the ceiling/floor for each?
To me, guys like Simpson, Nussmeier, or Klubnik have the upside of a Brock Purdy. All are undersized and have limited arm strength.
Allar doesn't have the clutch gene, but at least has special traits. His arm allows him to make throws not everyone in the NFL can make. The big question is, can McCarthy coach out the negatives, or at least work around them?
Allar and/or Beck will go way earlier than some think. Depending on what teams want, I could see either going early in the second round. This is my version as well. Thanks for all your great post(s) 448, appreciate you.
Currently, i think the risk is worth the reward.
I also think he will go in the day 2 draft.
I wouldn’t pick any of them earlier than 3.Allar and/or Beck will go way earlier than some think. Depending on what teams want, I could see either going early in the second round.
I'd be okay with it, fully trusting Mike McCarthy's QB evaluation. The Steelers have needs everywhere with QB being far and away the top need. We're paying him a lot of money to coach up the next young QB for this franchise.I wouldn’t pick any of them earlier than 3.
( way off my earlier stance)
I think with this unattractive class they will be overdrafting. I have no desire for the Steelers to follow suit with their plethora of needs.
Nah. You are confusing talent with measurables. Yes, Allar has the prototypical size. Yes, he has a strong arm. Those are physical traits, not talent. If he were talented, his physicality would translate into great ability. It doesn't, because he isn't mentally talented.
And I'm saying Allar won't be better than Mendoza, because he lacks the mental ability. Allar clearly doesn't have that "clutch" gene that so many great quarterbacks possess. He chokes in big moments. He panics when the game is on the line. Mendoza doesn't. @tapeANaspirin2it should know that better than anybody, after watching Mendoza drive Indiana down the field with pinpoint passes in the final seconds of their win over Penn State a few months ago.
Allat NEVER was at PSIU. So, personally I wouldn’t bet a dollar that he will be in the NFLHe was at Bama...
If DK actually believes that Allar has "outstanding speed for his size," then he very well may be.I guess DK must be related to Allar as well.
Wait, didn't you say earlier in this thread that Franklin forced Allar to play turtle ball? Which one is it?Partially, yes. The kid makes dumb decisions with the football like throwing a go ball when you need 3 yards for a first down. Situational football is coached and Franklin was piss poor at. It isn't farfetched to believe it rubbed off on baby faced junior Franklin.
I watched Allar break my heart for years at Penn State, and I don't want him anywhere near the Steelers. Serviceable backup quarterbacks aren't that hard to come by -- I'll gladly take my chances with somebody else.Look, if you want label the kid a bust right out of the gate then go for it, it's a free country. But if there is a chance that McCarthy can QB guru Allar into even a serviceable back-up that sends Rudy packing his bags, then why not spend a fourth-round pick on him?
Where the f*ck did I say that?So talent is just on field success in college? Maybe we can get Stetson Bennett.
And yet Allar won't go in round one, because despite his glorious physical traits, even the Browns know he doesn't have what it takes above his neck. You want to use the term physical traits. OK. NFL teams draft Physical Traits in rd 1. Drew Allar has the best physical traits of any QB in this draft.
YOU said that Allar is undisputedly "the most talented quarterback in this draft. Period." That would include him being more talented than Mendoza, would it not? So mental acuity at the QB position means nothing to you?Who's talking about Mendoza? He's going with a top pick. I suppose if you need to hear it, I'd take Mendoza over Allar. But yes, Allar does have more physical talents than Mendoza. Mendoza wasn't a big target in the portal last year.
And you've gone out on a limb to say that Drew Allar is more talented than said Heisman winner and projected #1 overall pick. Which, again, only makes it somewhat likely that you're his uncle. You've gone out on a limb that Heisman winner and projected #1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza is talented. Maybe you can grace us with your list of the "talented" QBs in this draft.
I’m sure MM’s alumni reunion tour 2026 will enrich all.You should start a respect-o-meter thread for MM and staff

Waiting a year could be interesting.
Julian Sayin and Arch Manning will battle for the top spot--I think it will go to Manning assuming moderate improvement. As long as Dante Moore stays the course, he should go top-5 as well. Seriously, if these guys don't bomb, we will see 3 QBs go in the top 5 picks. The rest becomes a crapshoot.
Maiava, Sellers, Sorsby all have the size and arm talent, but questions. I'd love for Maiava or Sorsby to light it up and be in range for the Steelers. Sellers just has too many questions for me, particularly his lack of TD passes.
Chambliss lacks size yet showed he can be electric in a big-game setting. Still, that size issue is significant, IMO.
Leavitt and Mateer are a combination of Baker-lite or a max upside of Bo Nix, IMO.
I am aligned with that mad…I still think they punt on this year's draft class... if they really do like Will Howard they will not carry two project QBs...
If they are keeping howard, they wont take a qb before the sixth... who could be put on the PS if need be.. a fourth isnt a throwaway pick, and teams dont go into a season with a new HC and new offensive system with two virtual rookies at QB .. even if Will howard won QB 2 in camp, QB 3 will be a mason rudolph/skylar Thompson type vet...I am aligned with that mad…
However, I would not be opposed to a very late round pick or free agent signing of Fagnano out of Connecticut..
I really think this kid is a big-time sleeper at that position.
Watch the tape on the kid he makes all the throws, he’s very good under pressure in the pocket, he looks for the big play when available, and has proven results.
We should also look hard at drafting his favorite receiver at UConn kid named Bell..
Hoping he lasts till the fourth, and we can steal him there.

Now you're just picking at sticks. You know damn well that Franklin played everything tight and **** the bed in big moments. Perhaps Allar went off script or perhaps the head coach had a "they'll never expect a go ball", who knows. I'm just glad that **** show is all over!Wait, didn't you say earlier in this thread that Franklin forced Allar to play turtle ball? Which one is it?
Sorry, it wasn't Franklin or turtle ball that caused a simple first down throw to be handed to Oregon in overtime. It was a shltty pass by the quarterback, who was under no pressure, yet never saw the safety undercut the route.

I agree …I wouldn’t go any higher than the sixth or seventh on Fagnano..If they are keeping howard, they wont take a qb before the sixth... who could be put on the PS if need be.. a fourth isnt a throwaway pick, and teams dont go into a season with a new HC and new offensive system with two virtual rookies at QB .. even if Will howard won QB 2 in camp, QB 3 will be a mason rudolph/skylar Thompson type vet...
Bell is certainly a player to look at to help us at the wide out position.Bell had a great combine and I would be surprised if he doesn't go by the 3rd. I've seen anywhere from 2-4th rnd. I didn't know much about him til last week when I was looking for a rnd 2 WR target. I tried to catch all his combine drills and he seems like an easy mover. 6' w/ 10" hands and 4.4 speed, that's pretty good measurables to start off.
I like Fagnano late day 3 as well. He's got great stats although most of it was from his time in Maine.
