Quarterback Scouting Thread

I'd be happy with Allar, Beck or Nussmeier in the 3rd (2nd if they are confident in the player).

Thing is, with 12 picks, I'd almost suggest double down & take 2 of them if one falls into the 4th.

Bring back Rodgers to nurture them, or let Mason get the lead role & hope he can pass on other skills like toughness & teamwork. But let the 2 x rookies & Will Howard compete.

Each of the rookies has some skills that can translate. They all have some issues. I'm sure McCarthy will be looking for a QB that plays the WCO well.

Bro, the kid looked awful initially, but a lot had to do w/ learning Coach Deboer's new system - then the lights came on and he shined. He's accurate and willing to run, when needed; but...

I just see a slightly better version of KFP when things break down.

So, IMHO, I would not draft him.
Thanks.

For what it’s worth as an Oklahoma State alum I watched every college snap Rudolph ever took and even tho I’m no expert and just a fan, I felt that Rudolph would never be a solid to above average NFL quarterback, so it’s sounds like it’s a similar vibe

People think I'm some Allar homer. It's not that. He's the most talented QB in this draft. Period. Does anybody want to dispute that?

I have flat out said he may be a bust. I would rather draft the upside guy and he be a bust than go with another safe bet Kenny Pickett type.
I'm OK with them not drafting a QB at all in this draft. I just don't see any QBs with big upside this year.

Here's an edit of all his combine throws. Seems he's already been working with a coach as the guys comment on his footwork.

McCarthy has a vertical pass attack.

I hear yaz tape, I’m picking up what you’re laying down.

I’m for picking Allar, provided they intend on valuing him for what he is. He is a NFL framed & arm ready QB that we should take in the 3rd round or later. Unfortunately, there will be another team that values him higher.

He needs a year or two to fully develop into the NFL QB he could be.

McCarthy is not an over anxious mike tomlin, he will not take Allar in the first as Tomlin did with KFP.

Time will tell and I will patiently await.

Salute the nation

You are an Allar homer. There is no disputing that. And he's more talented than Mendoza? Sure he is, Mrs. Allar. Sure he is.

How could such a talented player (according to you) ever become a bust?

Any half-decent QB can make those throws in shorts with no pressure and no coverage. Good high schoolers can.

I'm a Buckeye homer, you all know that by now, but Will Howard had an awful combine throwing session last year. It's not automatic.

You are misunderstanding talent with ability. What tape is saying, is that Aller has all the things you can't teach, so his ceiling is higher than any other QB in the draft.

The coaching staff did him no favors, they wanted him to play it safe (sound familiar).

Tape isn't saying he will be better than Mendoza, tape is saying that he COULD be, his physical attributes and natural talent say he SHOULD be, but does he have the mental ability, the work ethic to get better, to want to be great? He has the highest boom or bust ratio of all the QB prospects.

For as good as Mendoza is, for this draft class, he's the safe bet...but he's still not the once in a generation prospect. And that's coming from someone who would only draft Mendoza in this class.

I'll take him in the 4th - of he's there...

I was surprised how many WRs dropped passes from the lefty Cole Payton in drills yesterday. I wonder if he would be more valued in Atlanta than other teams since Penix is a lefty?

So who did you like from what you saw?

I only caught group 2 I think. That was Ty, Cole, Sawyer, Trevor, Diego, Garrett and Cade. I didn't see anyone who really stood out above the others in that group. I thought Cole Payton had the strongest arm but Garrett and Trevor had nice throws. Wasn't impressed with Cade even though Charles Davis liked him, I think Ty and Sawyer were middling.

Odds are there will be a riser in the draft. Over the past few years, Anthony Richardson, Michael Penix, JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Jaxson Dart went higher than expected. Simpson appears to be QB2...we'll see. I could see Nussmeier, Beck, or Allar joining this group. Cole Payton is a very interesting prospect as well. Seems like he could be a fiesty long-term backup.

I don't think the Steelers need to take a QB, but there's a group of guys who potentially could've gone in the first if they came out last year and fell down draft boards. Banking on a bunch of QBs who weren't good enough this year to take a step forward next year could lead to the same situation. If one falls with the tools to succeed, take a chance. It's a big reason they hired McCarthy.

I said Trevor above but it was Behren the Texas Tech QB. Not sure where I got Trevor from lol. And as an aside, I thought he threw pretty good. Hopefully YT does some full replays, I missed group 1 and parts of some other position groups.

Many think that a qb...sitting on the bench behind a starter like Roger's learns and gets better. So many fans have no faith in Rudolph or Howard and both of these guys supposedly learned from master Roger's. They sat in meetings and throwing sessions, they hear him talking and strategizing on the sidelines. Are they learning? Are they getting better. Why no faith?
