So... you HAVE TO take a quarterback in this draft... who ya taking?

Chambliss is off the board, won his appeal. If he plays well again this year, he's just going to rise up the boards next year. But it gets rid of a solid option this year...

I'd only do that for another Burrow, and while I think Mendoza is very good, I think he projects more to Matt Ryan. Really good QB, not one I'd sell the farm for.

I think he will be a franchise. Not sure where that falls in a comparison but it would be great to find out. 😃👍
 
I wouldn't want Ty Simpson. He's listed as 6'2 which is on the short side. I don't see an elite talent. Is he an upgrade over Rudolph or Howard or Pickett?

Drew Allar has the highest upside. That's who you roll the dice on. I won't be surprised if he ends up in Rd 1 in this draft. His footwork issues are fixable.

Franklin ruined him. Installed a joke offense that didn't play to his strengths. One of the beat writers reported that Franklin coached Allar to intentionally underthrow Wrs open deep to make sure you get the sure catch or pass interference call rather than risk getting nothing on an overthrow. Franklin made this team play so tight.

Allar's footwork should be an easy fix. He should be able to fix it with any decent private QB coach. He needs his confidence rebuilt after being coached for years to not make mistakes rather than make plays.

Here's a good breakdown of Allar's 1st college start vs WVU before Franklin started breaking his spirit.

Yes college football is a far cry from what it was. I think Carson Beck said he graduated 2 years ago, not sure if that's true or not ??? But now they don't even require mouth pieces and dudes wearing daisy dukes where it used to be knee pads required. Player protection is the least of their concerns. It was always a business but wow, its getting out of control imo.

Have to say, I'd rather be in the Raiders' position than ours. Bright new young offensive coach, GOAT as a part owner, Jeanty, Crosby, first pick in the draft. They might be contenders before the Steelers at this pace.

Rodgers and Mahomes, perhaps the two best throwers of the football ever, are both 6'2". Height isn't the problem, inexperience is. When he was healthy early he was lights out.

Too big a risk in round 1, maybe, but later...

Simpson is listed at 6'2. We don't know if that's accurate. Simpson is listed at 6'2 and 208 so he's also light framed. Mahomes at combine was 6'2 and 225. Rodgers was 6'2 and 223. Rodgers and Mahomes are elite arm talents.

Simpson has a mediocre arm and does not have a good deep ball. McCarthy's offense has lots of vertical throws. Simpson is smart and accurate. He'll do well in a Shanahan type system. Oklahoma threw some pro style defense at him and Simpson was not good.

If I'm spending a 1st or 2nd rounder, I want a guy with big upside. I want to draft a franchise QB, not game manager.

I think at some point in the next couple of years we are going to half to pay premium capital to move into the top 10 for a QB.

With the Duece as controlling owner and his desire to compete every year I don’t think we ever have a bad enough year to get a top 10 pick unless we trade for it

Sorry, there’s no way I’m trading multiple first round picks for Mendoza. If the raiders can get “several first round picks’ (meaning more than a couple), god bless them, make the trade.

Mendoza is only the first pick because he’s the last good college quarterback standing that may be worthy of a top 15 pick.

It is relevant because he is slated to go where the Steelers pick and the Steelers are in need of a QB.

I think AR will return and I think there is enough of a Simpson concern that they wait until later in the draft or next year. I think they will dip into round 3 for one.

Simpson’s concerns are short body of work, arm strength, and lack of weight.

His strengths are release and accuracy, and read the field ability.

I think they will check him out in drills and zoom in on that arm strength. That might be behind the scenes telling if they think he can be developed or enough of a concern to pass…
