Will Howard

Thinking round 2 is the highest for Nuss as his down year will impact him I am sure. If he is there in round 3 I pull that trigger..
Early in the year I tried to watch as many of these highly-rated QBs as possible and Nussmeier was so disappointing. Down year is an understatement, though McCarthy does have a loose connection with his dad, so maybe? Klubnik and Allar were two QBs the Steelers heavily scouted during the season, not that it means anything.

Nussmeier - Probably has the best football IQ, but is small and lacks any elite tools.
Klubnik - Has the edge on starting experience, but underachieved and lacks elite tools.
Allar - Has elite physical tools, but is inconsistent and doesn't have much mental toughness in big moments.

Round 3 you could have any of the three who do you take and why?

Im taking Haynes king in the 5th and making him slash. Flea flickers left and right
King had what like 5 INTs in one senior bowl practice? If we want to give the ball away we can just keep Rudy.

😅😇✌️

Nussmeier has the processing skills and is probably a fit in McCarthy's offense, but he's physically limited. I've seen him compared to Andy Dalton and a poor man's Baker Mayfield. No slight on either player, they can take a team to the playoffs. Give me Allar and hope they can coach some mental toughness and put the physical tools together with the processing part of the game. I suppose I'd rather swing for the fences at this point of the draft rather than try to hit a single. Neither would prevent me from taking a QB early next year either.

Very well spoken young man. Sounds smart.
Enjoyed when he drew up and described a play on the board at 12:00.

At 17:45…. “How the hell do people not like you as the #1 QB in the draft?” - Gruden
At 16:50 compares him to Josh Allen. Identical size.
Thats enough. I’m sold on the guy!

Mason Rudolph is the same size as Josh Allen. C'mon.

Haley says Howard more than likely is not the guy...nothing against Howard he says it's just the nature of the beast. A Tom Brady in the 6th round is like winning the powerball, as far as odds go. They talk about it from the 4:00 minute mark on.

There is ZERO actual player evaluation in this video. Cliff Notes: He was drafted in the 6th round so it's very unlikely he's gonna be the guy. Thanks Sherlock Haley!

My only problem with drafting a QB in 2026 is that it almost ensures we won't in 2027. I know these things change every year but next year will have Moore, Sellers, Sayin, and Manning at a minimum.

That's why I'd give Howard a chance this year, if we hit the lottery, no need to pick another. If not, much better class projected to come out the next year.

I am in the minority I like Nuss in 3. I thought his injury held him back. Thought he showed well in the Senior-bowl in a small sample size.

I probably wouldn’t lose sleep over Allar in 3 either. We have an extra one if they want to take a QB dip in the pond.

Yeah unless someone blows up on the roster I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit the well next year for sure..

if the Steelers and McCarthy think Howard could work, then they need him to have some real playing time this season. We know this QB class is underwhelming, so why bother on another QB project in this draft? The 27 draft class looks so much better, and the team will presumably have a verdict on Howard.

My best case scenario would be the Steelers re-signing Ayahuasca A-Ron in a team friendly deal, with Howard getting most of the OTA and preason work with the 1s. Then, in each and every game of the upcoming 17-0 season, Rodgers gets rested for the 4Q because of the 21 point leads, so Howard gets lots of snaps in many games, and actually starts the last 3 games of tge season because the Steelers clinched early.

Or something like that.

Problem is last offseason this class looked attractive then it developed into underwhelming.

I am for crowding the room,1 this year 1 next.

Then depending on AA Ron you let them compete it out.

Mike and his staff have been around long enough that I trust them to sort the room out.

I just prefer to fill the basket with eggs and see which one develops.

😉

Pick the QB that is either the most outstanding prospect (physical tools, production etc) or the QB that best fits the system you want to play.

McCarthy is West Coast. Which draft eligible QB fits the West Coast offence best?

Then, if you think you can upgrade next season- do so. Or the year after. Having scheme-fit QB's isn't a bad thing. You upgrade to generational talents when/if you can.

Nearly all the QB's that are 'stars' now are scheme fit. Mahomes & Allen are probably the outliers. Sam Darnold is close to winning a SB.

Does EVERYONE believe Rudolph cannot run a West Coast scheme?

Everything in your post until you get to Rudy. Rudy needs to be gone as he is hindering QB growth. The only way you keep him is as #3 back up and that’s if you can’t get someone else, or one of the new guys don’t step up enough.

Aaaa-Ron is a variable, both in if he re-ups and his injury/play-ability.

Weren't we saying the same thing last year? We were naming great QBs coming out in 2026. That said, I'm not for drafting anything more than a developmental QB. I'd rather look for the next Sam Darnold (ala Malik Willis or Mac Jones).

How many NFL preseason snaps has Fernando Mendoza taken? But the enthusiasm for him is 100% warranted because he'll be the number one pick, right? Just like JaMarcus Russell or Tim Couch or Sam Bradford. Did they save their franchises?

Nobody has called Howard the "savior." What people want is to see the guy simply have an opportunity to compete. And that won't be happening if Aaron Rodgers comes back for another 10-7 or 9-8 season.
Maybe.
But Aaron Rodgers, and others, have sat for 2 or more years before getting their shot.
And Rodgers was a 1st round pick.
Sometimes it's not bad to sit and learn.

Agreed if that QB is drafted in the first two rounds. Borderline on a third rounder and after that it doesn't at all preclude you from still drafting someone the next year.

I don't want any pipsqueaks. Height has to be a solid 6'3" min.

100%

Will got left behind by the previous coaching staff. By not knowing how to develop and build for the future, they delegated him to practice squad QB.

If Will sits, this current coaching staff will actually develop him with future in mmyb a, not relegate him to purgatory.

Pipsqueeks can't run the Big Mac offense. Now known as the Steel City Offense.
