Will Howard

McCord
264 Y/G 2 TD/G 0.5 INT/G 65.8%
-5.4 rush yards/game 0 rush TD/game

Howard
251 Y/G 2.2 TD/G 0.6 INT/G 73%
14.1 rush yards/game 0.4 rush TD/game
Did you calculate adjusted attempts too? I tried a few ways and when I adjusted the attempts it calculated yards in Will’s favor.

What I liked from that video most was,he was getting that ball out in about 2.5 seconds and on target.

What any qb needs most is great wide receivers. The Steelers don't have any of those at the moment. We have a pretty good one in DK and no clear number one.

I believe we're in a great place to actually develop a quarterback now with the HC and staff, it's just finding the right guy and having the patience to see it through.

Just like many have said, the vast majority of quarterbacks wash out no matter their draft placement.

The college level has large talent gaps, so many look way better then they really are when playing against an entire team of professionals,it's another story.

It seems clear to me that hometown passion aside, the Steelers belive McCarthy can help with the QB puzzle.

He had great success with Rodgers, who despite his potential, sat for 3 years. I am fairly confident that McCarthy understands and had more successful experience with improving QBs than almost anyone.

It will be telling how the offseason develops with Ayahuasca A-Ron, because he knows more about McCarthy's importance than anyone.

It is a bloody shame that McCarthy sat at home all last season and the Steelers did not ask him to come in and advise on QB development.

Is MM going to get a chance to work with Howard before free agency and the draft?
I know they can get together but anything organized?
I would presume they could but I am thinking there will be little to no time outside of him just looking at tape and preparing the roster for the draft and free agency and the combine…

The Steelers are entering year 4 of building for a quarterback.

The draft:
LT Broderick Jones
TE Darnell Washington
OL Spencer Anderson
RT Troy Fautanu
C Zach Frazier
WR Roman Wilson
RG Mason McCormick
RB Kaleb Johnson

Overall, a lot of really good pieces that set the foundation for the offensive line. The 2024 draft was a home run in terms of finding 3 above average starters. I think the Steelers will be okay with either Jones or Cook. Left guard will have to be resolved, but they can bring Seumalo back on a short-term deal. He's the top-rated guard on several UFA lists, but his age and injury history will factor into his contract. This is a position they can find a steady, mid-range free agent on a 3-year contract or find an option on day 3, where teams can find plug-and-play players.

Tight end is in good shape with Freiermuth and Washington.

I'm interested to see what they do at running back. In theory, Kaleb Johnson should make Kenneth Gainwell expendable, but he didn't show anything last year. I also don't think the Steelers should overspend on a running back.

If Roman Wilson showed he could be WR3, the Steelers would be in really good shape only having to find a WR1/2. Instead, they'll need two receivers this offseason--one in free agency and one very early in the draft. It's also very possible to plug both these spots setting up 2027 for the year to break in a young QB.

You have Kenneth Walker, Breece Hall, Dowdle, & Javonte Williams available.

I think they can upgrade and still not have to break the bank in the process.

You want more production from that area to help control the TOP.

With some cuts and or restructuring along with a nice cap increase this team could be looking at 100 million to spend.

They should bring in a G,CB, FS, WR and a RB.

The band of the hand..

They should look at the Bucs SB run for an example of a good approach…

Rumor that they gave AR 30 days to make a decision. I'd love to see him back one more year and then Howard unveiled late this year or starting next year OR we tank and get Manning.

Who started the rumor?

Will Howard does not come in a package deal with Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Ebuka and Carnell Tate, along with Treyveon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins at RB.
Look up Howard's numbers at Kansas State. Not exactly Earth shattering. Kyle McCord's 23 season at Ohio State was better than Howard's 24 season.
I looked up Howard's numbers at K-State. His last two years there:

19 games
338-556 (61%)
4276 yards (7.7 YPA)
39 TDs
14 INTs

For reference, here's Mendoza's two years at Cal:
20 games
418-629 (66%)
4712 yards (7.5 YPA)
30 TDs
16 INTs

Of course Howard was a year older (21 and 22) than Mendoza was (20 and 21) in those two seasons, with prior experience, but I don't see an earth-shattering difference in these statistics, either.

And, I think if you were somehow able to plug 2024 Will Howard in for 2025 Fernando Mendoza, the results for Indiana would've been very similar.

When t*mmyb*y was still playing he seemed to do what ever the hella he wanted……. I’d think McCarthy could do the same, Will too !!!!!!!

Haley says Howard more than likely is not the guy...nothing against Howard he says it's just the nature of the beast. A Tom Brady in the 6th round is like winning the powerball, as far as odds go. They talk about it from the 4:00 minute mark on.

I wonder what the odds were for a guy who never even played youth football becoming the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs at the age of 42, then being relegated to becoming a high school offensive coordinator about ten years later. Talk about a fraud.

Haley should be concentrating on his Columbus Aviators' offense instead of making boring comments about Will Howard, shouldn't he? The UFL season opens in just eight weeks!

Yeah he's just stating how statistically these type players turn out. Nothing to get offended about...it's just his opinion.

If you hit a serviceable QB2 in the 6th then you’ve nailed the pick, a legit starter and ya hit the jackpot. He’s right, it’s very rare.

Most thought the guy couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn post combine session then a 1 hour interview/coaching session with Gruden and he’s the savior…lmfao

It’s amazing the enthusiasm many have behind a guy taken very late who has yet to take a single NfL snap (even in preseason). I’m rooting for the kid, but his spot in the roster moves the needle zero towards the Steelers need to find the solution at QB. If he’s it that’s awesome, but a very low percentage play of actually being “the solution”.

Keep drafting guys and bringing in vets til an actual answer is firmly in place.

That's it. Even with all the sophisticated analytics and all the metrics that are looked at it's still pretty much a crap shoot.

Edit; Aaaaa-Ron could be that “step” QB needed hope a 1 year deal, provided the cost is similar to last season.

I’m an “under-dog” sort, I will root heavily in hopes Will is the man.

I also know the reality of success with drafted / any QBs, is less than desirable.

Regardless, I will continue to hope / pray for the Will @ QB, until proven otherwise or a better option comes along.

By option, Aaaa-Ron is not the answer, he may be better QB, but not the building answer we all want.

n his sole season with the Buckeyes, Howard has led the Buckeyes to a 12-2 record and set career highs in passing yards (3,490), passing touchdowns (32), passer rating (175.8) and completion percentage (72.6).

Maybe some teeny tiny barns.

Howard completed 73% of his passes across Ohio State’s 16 games in the 2024 season, breaking the previous record of 71.9% set by C.J. Stroud in 2021.

Howard was efficient throughout his lone season as Ohio State’s starting quarterback, completing more than 80% of his passing attempts in eight different games to break Ohio State’s school record for career games with an 80% completion rate. He completed at least 60% of his passing attempts in all but one game, the lone exception coming in Ohio State’s regular-season finale against Michigan.
