McDermott gone ... supposedly

Like I said, with the Bills job opening up, Shula’s price tag just got higher and I don’t see Deuce winning a bidding war.
Only one Kubiak is on the Steelers’ list.
If it actually came down to the Steelers and Bills for Shula, the only bidding war would be:

Steelers: We can offer you Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.
Bills: We've got Josh Allen.

Absolute no brainer that any coach would take the Bills job 10 out of 10 times if given the choice and it would have nothing to do with pay.

I just read on the socials that Mike Mcarthy turned down all other invites for interviews as he is focused on the Steelers. Either he's Stupid, don't need a job, or very confident he's getting the Steeler's job.
Head coach for the Packers-Cowboys-Steelers would be an insane resume.

I didn’t realize that McDermott had been with Buffalo for nine years.

Agree, but with the Steelers you know they won’t fire you right off for going 1-1 in the playoffs.

They are all (Bills, rats, Steelers HC hires) gonna get 5 year gteed deals. The second contract, or next contract, will be about success in the first 5 years. That is far more likely, with more expected PO appearances, in both Buffalo and Baltimore, given the QB setup now.

We don't have a QB, we need someone that's going to be able to find and develop that guy, Flores is not that guy, bring an offensive guy. There's actually people wanting McCarthy so we can keep Rodgers, WTF!

The only perk of McCarthy is if they wanted a short-term coach who they'd have no problem firing if the team stinks for 2-3 years.

Didn't Rodgers get McCarthy fired in Green Bay?

We know that because the last three coaches have been pretty darn successful. Not many, if any of us, know how they’ll act if they hire a dud that has the Steelers looking like the Jets for 2-3 years. We assume they’ll hang in there for a bit, but fact is the Steelers were loyal to successful coaches.

Another thing, I’m not sure Rooney thinks it’s a rebuild. Some of the guys he’s interviewing suggests he thinks the roster is in place to win a championship. I’d say if he hires McCarthy or Flores, he thinks he can win now. If he goes with a young first time coach, then it’s a rebuild.
I guess we’ll see. I mean Art the piece of deuce is the most incompetent owner in the NFL. Maybe he actually thinks the team is close. I guess hiring McCarthy would increase the odds of Rodgers coming back. Maybe with Tomlin George comes back and we get a number 1 receiver.

But imo the Steelers will dump the roster and increase draft capital. Completely overhaul the coaching staff and roster.

HC resigining is one thing,, to replace him.

Its another thing entirely to dump the roster. I think there will be cap casualties , like jalen and a few others.. But Duece still dont want to tear it up and start over,, he never has.

Then coaches are idiots... the Bills owner, Terry Pegula, bought the team in 2014... immediately fired the current coach and hired Rex Ryan...

Rex Ryan was fired after 1.5 seasons... then McDermott came in...

in 2017, Mcdermott was brought in and made the playoffs, yet there was some speculation he was on the hot seat in 2018 (when talk of trading Allen was also a thing cause patience is not a thing in the NFL)...

He just fired a head coach in the midst of a six year streak of 11-13 regular season wins and at least one playoff win... that is just stupid... of his 8 playoff losses in 9 years, 4 were 3 points or less... 1 was six points, 1 7 points.. the two blowouts were in 2022 and in 2020... so the recent history was close losses...

3 of his losses were in OT...

This isnt the resume of a coach that peaked... it was a kneejerk move built on impatience...

So the next coach is going to have 2 years maybe 3 tops to win a super bowl or they are out...
that is not a great position to be in... allen is 30. He has five more prime qb years left and will have to transition to a bit less running before long...

The Giants with Dart were a way better long term option... there a mover to be competitive towards the playoffs would be seen as success..just getting to the playoffs in the next 3 years probably gets you an extension...

Its not all about the qb when it comes to these jobs, its the owner... and the Bills owner wants a championship right now or else...

Yeah I find it hard to see with their recent comments that it will make them the more attractive option. Makes me think the organization is going to start flying through coaches and you don’t want to be on the train that keeps moving quickly.

Nah. Browns, Bengals, and Raiders ownership is still way worse.

Art 2 isnt even in the top half of incompetent owners.. not even close to the top... I mean do you pay attention to some of these nitwits?

Haslam is running the browns like the boss from code monkeys...

Jerrah jones is an 83 year old who refuses to step down as team president and gm despite not getting to an NFC cg in 31 years...

then there is Woody Johnson of the jets... he rivals Haslam in incompetence

People ***** about Rooney being cheap for stupid reasons... cheap is Mike Brown of the Bengals... abd that dude is way more involved in day to day operations of his team. The move to blow up their safeties to save money for the O was his... and it, more than even the oline issues, why they lost 3 years of playoffs

Then there is marc davis, a cheap knockoff of AL with none of the success out with the Raiders

Then you have guys like Tepper in Carolina who meddle non stop and hold their team back...

And I'm not even started on owners who try to be incompetent and just get out incompetent-ed by other owners.. like Arthur Banks... who supposedly directed his team to go get Watson but just got outbid by the Browns...

Or the scandal riddled guys like Kraft...

Or the owners that run their team ok, but are total POS's like Stan Kroenke from the Rams.. who weaseled the team out of StLouis and ended up having to pay a 3/4ths of a billion dollar lawsuit over it..

Art 2 is far less than Dan, but far from one of the worse owners in the league... like by a lot...

I think the Steelers ownership would have easily been ranked top 5 in the league a decade ago.
Now the lack of success compared to their own franchise standard -- with the clear acceptance of mediocrity -- has lowered the esteem for the Rooneys and especially the Deuce.

I cannot stand Jerra, and laugh as he fumbles talent with meddling (huge nod to Jimmy Johnson for his success), but his franchise is financially superior to all others, by a mile. He has a genius on that side of the biz; thank heaven he is not smart enough to get that talent on the football side.

Maybe the new HC will restore some of the Rooney genius over the next couple years, but I'd rather the younger next generation got on with it, asap. I sense that there may already be more involvement with this HC search, but the Steelers don't openly acknowledge things of that nature.

I'm not sure the Steelers new coach should or will have a much more time to turn things around. There's no QB and it's been 9 years since a playoff win. While they come in with a fresh resume, the fanbase isn't going to all of a sudden forget the past decade. Unless the Steelers make an aggressive move to get a QB in the next couple of seasons, there could be some real tough seasons. Not every coach is stubborn enough to win games the way Tomlin has the past 5 seasons. A chance to win a championship with an MVP-level QB, even if its only a 5-year window, is a better option on paper. Buffalo already has half of the equation to be a contender.
