Part one of the KDKA interview with Ben .. Nice interview

At some point the stupid got knocked out of Ben.
 
Guys who **** up tend to be of two different varieties. Guys who are basically good but let it get away from them, forget who they are and how they were raised, and then there are those that are just bad dudes.

Ben is a good guy who let it get away from him for a bit. I know I'll get ripped for this, but I think Ray Rice falls into the same type of category. Never heard anything bad about the guy until that one major **** up.

Lawrence Phillips would be in the other arena. Ray Carruth. Ray McDonald.

True, but we never heard anything before, or since. That is important. That hasn't been the case with Ray McDonald.

Look, I don't give a **** if the guy plays again or not. I have no sympathy for Ray Rice. I just don't think he is a bad dude. But if you aren't out there everyday doing something about all of the women without famous husbands getting their ***** beat, then don't give me the righteous indignation.

I have no use for them either. And have came in-between any altercations I have ever seen. I will stick with calling it like I see it.

So would a one time rapist or murder get a pass with you too? hell they haven't did it before they aren't such a bad peeps.

what if ray beat down your wife, mother, daughter...... would he get that pass because he only did it just one time?

if she would have hit her head wrong she could have very well died

Hmmm, lets see. Have I ever knocked the **** out of a lady in a drunken rage before? No, I have not. Soooooo yeah, I'm gonna give you, Ray, and anyone else that wants it, all the righteous indignation that I can drum up. **** Ray Rice and anyone who wants to ride on his nuts
 
I have seen both sides of this as a cop. Guys bashed over the head with an Iron skillet from behind for example. Guys that leave go to work and come home to an empty apartment because the wife emptied the bank accounts and the house and left the state with everything. I have also seen the women abused with out going into details. There are no easy answers to this that work in every situation. Many times folks will snap and do things out of character and be sorry afterwards. There can be lots of things that happen to bring them to that point.

One thing to look at is the other person. If the abused party is willing to give them another chance with out being forced to do so should their views not be respected? The biggest problems happen when folks try to have a rule that is inflexible and all encompassing. I will provide an example.

It is trendy for public schools to have a no violence policy. In typical fashion these dumbshits decided that any act of violence results in punishments to both parties regardless of events. Under their guidelines a teenage girl resisting an attempt at rape would be guilty of this policy. That is an extreme example but shows the ludicrousness of a one size fits all policy. Generally our legal system is able to stay out of these types of traps by having a judge and jury to actually evaluate each case, it is not perfect, but it is the best available. The problems arise when one faces mandatory sentence requirements or laws that require a specific course of action every time.
 
One thing I took from this interview, is I find it very interesting that the Steelers are practicing 2pt conversions every practice. This may be an emphasis because of the rule change, and conditions will dictate the value of kicking vs going for 2. Especially in a bad weather city like ours.

I have never remotely been accused, on TWO occasions mind you, of sexually assaulting a woman, either. Could there be any smoke there? Or was it all made up because he is the QB of the team we love?

Part of the reason Ben is back in people's good graces is because he is a good guy who was raised right. Good guys who are raised right may let it get away from them, but they come back. I know, because I was raised right and still did some stupid ****. Moreso with booze and acting like an ***, but still.

Being that Ray Rice was never in trouble before and there has not been a repeat, he may be in that category. and anyway, if his wife forgave him, is still with him, who the hell are we to judge?

So have I. One time, many years ago, I ran a guy down for a cop who was quite a bit over weight. He was beating the woman in front of the house as I pulled into the neighborhood. Had to go to court and the woman wouldn't press charges. Told the cop I should've beat the guys *** a little.

No they wouldn't get a pass. However, what does? We have given a pass to a guy who has been accused of sexual assault twice. Granted, there is definitely proof of Ray Rice. However, it is a good bet that Ben was not exactly acting gentlemanly, what ever happened. How would you feel if that was your wife or daughter?

if it was my daughter with a down to **** sticker on, I wouldn't be looking past her

let us not confuse allegations that couldn't even make it to a arrest with a guy cold cocking a woman and dragging her out of a elevator as in showing no remorse

if you see these two situations as being even remotely similar I don't know what to tell you

You just equated murder with what Ray Rice did. If you see murder as the same thing as knocking someone out, I don't know what to tell you.

See, we can keep playing this game. I think we are being hypocrites rooting for Ben or James Harrison (he had a domestic issue a number of years ago) and crucifying a Ray Rice. I root my *** off for Ben and James Harrison. Which is why I can't be too critical of Ray Rice and look in the mirror.

We will just have to disagree on this one. Nobody knows what happened in that bathroom or in the hotel room in Vegas. You or I cannot know if it was a parking ticket or a felony. But the appearance of it certainly isn't good. Still, I root for the guy and I think he is a good guy. I just think it is hypocritical in this case. Long ago I realized players on the team I root for do bad things too. So I had a choice. Do I stop watching the team I love? Nope. So my expectations for any of them, Steelers or other teams, are not very high. I have never looked to them as role models for my kids, anyway. Part of me just doesn't really care what they do.
