Wife and I enjoyed a nice vacation to the Caribbean over the past 9 days, got home at 2:30 this morning. Flew Pioneer Airlines, a cheapo airline with no video on the seats so did not watch the game until today.

Dylan Cook. Wow. Another good game by the guy. He is the best LT the Steelers have had since Villanueva. He will be tested next week but from all indications, the guy is ready to take on Danielle Hunter.

No better test than against hot pass rushers…

Welcome back to the good old US of A.
My buddy was just in Aruba and he was caught up in the air restrictions and couldn’t get a flight home for a couple days. Did you have the same problems where you went?

No. Wife and I were on a cruise that began and ended in Ft. Lauderdale so no overseas flights. The cruise stopped at Grand Turk in Turks & Caicos, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Charlotte Amalia in the Virgin Islands, Martinique, and finally Saint Kitts in the Bahamas on the way back. Great weather, 80° with low humidity, great beaches with perfect white sand that was as fine as powdered sugar.

Great time.

we may need to hedge our bets in the draft and snag Kadyn Proctor from Bama. At best - he and Cook can battle it out for LT. At worst, one of the two is moved to LG.

The BJ77 injury seems to be raising questions. I thought Cook did a helluva job but he shouldn't be handed the '26 role without a fight. I'd like them to bring in a top 100 pick to compete if not a FA starter outright. If ARod comes back, then FA starter and if not then add to the mix thru the draft. The hole at LT is just as big as the hole at WR since it affects both the run and pass.

I like the way you’re thinking, man…
I believe we will definitely have to trade up to get him though… which is not necessarily a bad thing, but just saying..

If you’re not real open to trading up for Proctor, I believe we can get Lomu or Freeling at 21…

Don’t forget the guard position also.. I’m projecting us taking Rutledge out of Georgia Tech in third.

I dunno I think there is enough competition in the room and I prefer them draft a G to Guard. Which they wouldn’t need to use a 1 or a 2 on. With so many needs I prefer them zoom in on WR and CB or FS..or NT with those top two.

Personally, I like Freeling over Lomu but you're right, both should be there at 21. I like Freeling's size at 6'7" and he can definitely add to that 315 listed weight. He's better at pass pro than run which isn't a bad thing.

If Ioane falls to 21 just because he plays OG than that should be a no-brainer. Pregnon would be another plug n play guy at LG but not sure where he is slotted to go, he seems more like a end of 1st/early 2nd value.
I like Rutledge and the 2 Iowa players for those day 2 picks like you mentioned.

It’s funny how we as a fanbase get behind the underdogs

Cook came in and smoked the first game when we needed it and fans went nuts.

Next couple games he was pretty good.

As the season crept into the playoffs he was abysmal…definition of turnstile.

Dude seemed to get worse almost every week.

I’m not sure what to make of his future.

I could see him not on the 53 or vying for a spot on the OL, no way I’d have him etched in as a starter tho.

I don't have the link now, but I read about a month ago that there are questions as to whether Jones will ever play FB again. Hopefully that was just speculation, but... Where there's smoke...

Cook is NOT the long term answer. Rewatch his game against the Texans if you doubt that. He did fine against teams like Cleveland and Baltimore who did not have dominant edge rushers on his side.

We need a LT early in this draft. We also need a guard because Seumalo was not consistently good this past season. Let him and his price tag walk.

Bring in the big eaters!

I’ve been to so many training camps I’ve lost track use take the boys now it’s the grandson… best oline man in training camp last year was Dylan Cook! Period I should say! He was a grad from Montana AND Montana state was qb there… my grandson said if he’s the qb there who was blocking for him? Good question… but he was very mature just did his job he was everything jones wasn’t. Jones is about as mature as a 5th grader. How the front office didn’t pick up on that is scary! Dylan moves his feet! The game is call football for a reason and it’s not called not grab *** for a reason! If jones wasn’t hurt I’d move him in to guard play cook outside. Our inside pass blocking was just as horrible as the outside blocking hopefully the coach will fix that. they still need to draft a starting offensive lineman at some point.

Fans thinking that you can just move a tackle in to play guard like it's no big deal is laughable. It was hard enough for Jones to switch to the right playing tackle, now you want to move him inside and force him to learn a completely foreign technique.

As for Jones, he was improving, and that was under the last OL coach. We have a much better OL coach now. So the question shifts to what his injury was and how soon/if he can return.

Dylan Cook, he might be a great guy, a hard worker, but he's barely back up material. He played on until they had tape on him, then he couldn't block anything.

Tackle needs attention, but we need to know about Jones first, to know if we need a stop gap, a back up, or a starter.

Tackle to guard is a whole lot easier than the reverse. HIs talents would fit eh transition fairly well. I tried going from guard to tackle when I played semi-pro and was horrendous at it. I can teach the basic guard footwork in a week. The muscle memory to teach the tackle pass blocking technique takes a lot longer and requires a lot of muscle memory. It is also hard to change that technique to correct issues. Not as hard at guard. LT is the hardest followed by RT then Center, guard is simple by comparison.

Semi pro vs nfl are not even the same ballpark to compare. AQ Shipley did a segment on McAfee talking about how it's not as simple as people claim it to be. And for Jones, not only is it not natural, but his body type is all wrong for it.

Tomlin set him back by trying to move him to RT, he started to settle in and improve before his injury. He has all the natural ability, his biggest issue was the OL coach. I think we are going to see massive improvement from our OL this year. But we still don't really know anything about Jones actual injury.

First reported as a stinger, then goes to IR (not normal), then the next we hear anything about him is a report refuting claims that he would return in the IR window because he actually had surgery on his neck.

But let's not keep this horrendous trend of playing people out of position with this new staff.

With no obvious QB selection to make, and a host of WR options that can be selected early to mid rounds, the best way to help out whoever plays QB for the Steelers this season could very well be at LT.

Cook & Jones are unable to be relied upon. And it was telling that Rodgers specifically said that the Steelers had a really great right side of the OL but made no mention of the left.

A Round 1 LT would be just fine. The #1 LG would be good too- but probably still requires a LT selection as well.

In fact, LT & LG in rounds 1 & 2 wouldn't be awful.

I wouldn’t like a round 1 LT or G. They can bring in a vet to supplement the T position which I think they will. More than likely they will bring in a G that will start too.

They can build the trenches but no need to do that early on that side of the ball when it is all said and done.

No reason not to get rid of some of their most glaring needs in free agency. Starters at G, CB, and FS. As well as a WR. A solid T for depth. A RB for rotation.

4 starters and 2 depth pieces should be brought in at the minimum.

No reason they shouldn’t be able to accomplish that.

I look it as this what is your weakest positions WR and CB which is why you like to see that attacked in free agency and the draft.

Then we have a DE playing NT and a G headed out to new pastures. The G probably gets attacked as I mentioned so that leaves you with CB WR and NT. I think you are looking at your early picks. With them having 5 early rounders we can add S and probably QB to the mix as well.

I would be slightly surprised if round 1-3 showed different.

Why didn't you let me know you'd be so close???

I like Dylan Cook but he's not Kayden Proctor.

Considering the news - he's my absolute 1A pick now...

Coach Tomlin didn't set the kid back. The LT at the time could not play RT and BJ was inserted.

Stunt his growth at LT? Of course. But this was done out of necessity not just because...

Broderick isn’t out of the picture. I know you like a Bama guy but the want has to match the need for the Steelers. Plus I think they will bring in a vet T. My money is on if they go T. It is no earlier than 4-5.

I couldn't disagree, there's a big need for LT stability and with all the FA $$ spent on defense last year, I'm sure they'll give some love to the offense this year. I'm hoping the draft is defense heavy, it needs to get younger.
