So I'm guessing it has nothing to do with scheme, it's just the player is playing better since Minkah has more TFL, QB Hits, Fumble recoveries, sacks, and the same number of passes defenses, INT's, and forced fumbles in 13 games with Miami than he did in his last 28 games as a Steeler.

Terrell Austin has been with the team for 7 season iirc

He spent the first few as DB coach

After last week he claimed the steelers used the zone blitz strategy of dropping DL into coverage to disrupt the short passing game for the first time since he got here

The past couple seasons the short, quick pass has destroyed us. By my estimate, one trillion fans suggested disguised coverages and dropping rushers into passing lanes to combat this... yet it wasnt done till now...

Our issues are 95% scheme and philosophy

While there are some older players on this defense, there are way too many individually talented players for the defense to be this bad.

Does the scheme get credit for the years he had from 2019-2022?

Here let me clarify:

Of course Teryl Austin sucks, he's running Tomlin's ****** scheme on top of sucking individually as a D.C....double suckage.

The Dolphins scheme caused him to get flicked aside by Metcalf, a WR, last night. The Steelers scheme may be a little better in that it caused him to get flicked aside by Derrick Henry.

I've got nothing against Minkah and the Steelers scheme sure as hell leaves a lot to be desired, but not just anything can be used to prove that.

DK - 6'4" 230lbs
Henry - 6'2" 250lbs
Minkah - 6'1" 207lbs.

Not fair in either case, and to be fair here...MORE DB'S should be bouncing off DK.

I know. But the contention of this thread is that it was all about the scheme with Minkah. The scheme too often stinks, but sometimes the players just don't get it done as well.

to be fair, Miami traded him to us because they thought he was trash.
he flourished in a better scheme for him.
then **** went south and Minkah was traded back to Miami. I have no issues with Minkah.

Always you sprint in to defend Tomlin

Tomlin and his yes man staff stuck all pro Minkah 20 yards off the line of scrimmage his last 2 years here that’s why his stats went down

No playoff wins in 8 years-You and your context can piss off

And there he is. Wah, wah. If it's always the coaching, does Tomlin get credit for Minkah's production from 2019-2022? I'm guessing you won't be knocking down the doors to do that.

See, at least I'm consistent. I give Minkah credit for those years. So I am hardly defending Tomlin.

I'm glad you are finally on board with what really matters with your last statement. You agree with me! I've been saying for years that is what should be focused on. Good job.

I have no problems with Minkah either. He played at a high level and wanted to win in the worst way. He looked way better in the black & gold than Miami's colors.

Yes I’ll give Tomlin credit for letting an all pro player play his position the right way after trading a first round draft pick for him.

Will you condemn Tomlin for stupidity wasting Minkah his last two years by playing a guy whose best quality is being a ball hawk in a place he couldn’t do that?

It’s a yes or no question no “context” needed or wanted

You and I are a lot closer to our opinions of Tomlin than you think, which is why I find it somewhat funny. If you would say to my brother or a few of my Steeler buddies, "He's a Tomlin apologist!" they'd say, "What?" He needs to go and they need a fresh outlook. I have a reason though why I focus on the players too, and I think it is important to do so. I'm not sure how old you are and if you remember when Cowher came in. His fresh approach and scheme changes made a huge difference. I absolutely agree a coach can impact that positively or negatively. But when the change occurred, you knew the team had some real talent, guys that could play and thrive in those schemes. We knew Rod Woodson was great, guys like Greg Lloyd, Dermontti Dawson, Carnell Lake were excellent, guys like John Jackson and Carlton Haselrig were pretty good. You look at this team now, idk, do you see that? Their best guys are old, and it doesn't seem like there are a number of young guys you are pretty sure of. Frazier and Fatanu and maybe McCormick. That's it. But is there great youth? Even excellent youth? I think this team is led poorly by the coaching staff, but I also don't think the talent is necessarily there.

Not a fan of Darnell Washington, Nick Herbig or Derrick Harmon?

I like all three. Herbig seems to have leveled off this year though after a good start, Harmon has been hurt too much to really make an early judgement, it's too early regardless on rookies. Washington? I should have included him. Still not sure I would put any of these guys on the level of what we knew about Lake, Dawson, Lloyd, for example.

Herbig might have more upside than many think.

Up until recently, he hasnt been playing nearly as much as he would be on most other teams, not only due to who he has in front of him, but what they're being paid compared to him.

Saying that, I think he might be their best OLB now, even when Watt is active. Watt was still playing well before the lung issue, but fans holding onto the notion he is still what he was a few years ago are in denial.

I'm concerned about them losing Herbig, considering what they have already committed financially to the position, but actions have consequences.

Not going to argue Minka's stats and not trying to diss him as he was great when he was here, but he looked old, slow, and just sloppy as far as tackling and reacting to plays.
