The continuing incompetence of Mike Tomlin

They gave away this generational talent. Huge mistake. Imagine having him opposite DK plus the big 3 TE’s. This whole organization is inept and has gone to ****. It’s been this way for a long time.

Tomlin’s Steelers were not using him properly
They wouldn’t have this year either

Glad for the hostage that he escaped Tomlin’s clown car

100% agree, miss-use, to quiet whisperer, young man who is not a dumb as many here portray him………..

He knows what money is and he is putting up big $$$MONEY$$$ play. He will get paid B-I-G in his new contract. Possibly highest paid WR in the NFL. Something that would not have happened here.

Just happy for him to be able to be turned lose in a non-captive atmosphere.

He got one generic question about MOF yesterday at his presser, nothing specifically about why he didn’t use it in the game. The press corps is useless and part of the problem, they’re all terrified of him.
He and the Rooneys have definite State Media-hold on and fear factor with the local media and the national media is just largely behind the curve on him because his NHALS is a beacon of light and chosen narrative.

I was the first one on this board to say "Hire that Man " after his interview with the media after his initial interview with Art2.

His focus on defensive TD's prior to the 2008 AZ Super Bowl was brilliant.

Red Flags started going up for me when he let the OL deteriorate. Then when ART2 wanted to see the run game established Tomlin said there are 2 schools of thought one, get more OL, two, draft weapons, so they drafted Limas Sweed.

When they started signing players and creating starting line ups based on "Pedigree" instead of play. I shook my head.

Last year when he benched Fields for Russ he crowed that's why I make the big bucks was arrogant.

At first I blamed Fearful Fichtner, then Canada, now same old **** with a proven NFL Coordinator. Same ****, week after week, year after year.

I.Am.Done.
In fairness Limas was a great receiver who forgot how to catch. He didn't have drop issues prior so that was odd. It's like the one golfer I watch on YouTube (Brad Dalke). He was one of the best amateur golfers in the world (played in the masters) and then developed driver yips which derailed his career.
As for Tomlin even after the SB win I saw many red flags, but he was a young coach so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Same issues kept popping up, getting worse, or even new ones came up. You could see the shift in philosophies as Tomlin got more comfortable. I can't think of anything that has improved since Tomlin has had full control.

Under Tomlin, the Steelers have never had consistently good OL play without Mike Munchak, or secondary play once the best DBs he inherited from Cowher retired.

To me, that says a lot about Tomlin, especially considering he established himself in the league as a DBs coach.

However, Tomlin obviously does some things well to have never had a losing season, as much as we grow tired of hearing about it.

I just think we've maxed out in terms of what Tomlin can bring. 8-10 wins and an *** waxing in the wildcard round have become the well-established floor and ceiling.

On top of it, Tomlin looks like he is becoming increasingly out of touch with today's NFL. Not just with the middle of the field phobia he has developed on offense, but with how frequently opposing QBs are able to hit their first reads against the Steelers defense.

The Steelers pass coverage schemes have been questionable for years now, but they seem more exposed than ever this season.

I noticed a while ago that our depth chart is largely based on salary and draft position.

Every once in a while I get bored and tune into Mark Madden who occasionally makes a good point.
He said the other day that Tomlin is nothing more than a con man. That a con man diverts away from the truth and attempts to get you to look the other way.
I thought about that and that’s what Tomlin actually does.
After the latest loss in Chicago he starts his presser with the Bears’s kicker was kicking dirty balls the way the ball was spinning on kickoffs. WTF!
Then he goes off on our punter who didn’t have his best game but he sure didn’t lose the game. WTF!
Didn’t lead off about his vaunted defense or his offense but diverted away from it. Hence the con man analogy.
He does this every week after every loss!

That scenario along the way has been a big deterrent. He wants us to believe we have solid footing when we all know the grass is being pulled from under our feet.

Word Salad is survival for him, not just a persona.

I hope that ends soon. I'm starting to get bitter about the whole thing.

But what has improved under tomlin? Our D lost its aggression. We have trouble stopping both the run and pass. Oline is not great. We keep bringing in old vets and trying to buy a team. I just can't think of anything that has gotten better. our whole success is reliant on turnovers

Out word salads have improved:

Instructions: Ingredients;

Start off our preparations with a sprinkle of gloat mentioning what they could be that doesn’t come to fruition. Add in a blend of high priced defensive players that often look offensive on the field. Leave out the in game adjustments and lean heavily on hoping the original game plan ingredients don’t taste like sh!t. Live in our fears with a form of preventive scheming on both sides of the ball and hope in the process teams fumble, bumble, stumble their way to defeat. Careful not to add in an opposing- capable X and O coach as salad will grow spirit fingers and point in every direction but subsequently not in the direction of not so magic- mediocre Mike . Dig out of the closet the prepaid for participation trophies engraved with never a losing season. This is the final ingredient in the salad. Mix it in really well over and over groundhog-ing a perfect combination of you never really were going to and never will be.

That's kind of my point in that I agree nothing ever really gets better under Tomlin, at least it hasn't for a long time.

The one thing I will say about Tomlin's approach that over-depends on turnovers is that his teams usually do force a lot of turnovers throughout the season.

He does kind of "walk the talk" in that regard, and it's the biggest reason his teams still manage to win as much as they do, despite all the other issues.

The problem is the splash comes in bunches and there is going to be games where you're going to need to stop teams with just good tackling, coverages and schemes, and the Steelers just don't do any of that consistently anymore.

It's obvious Tomlin meddles a lot with the offense as well, unless one believes it's a coincidence we've been seeing the same holes in the middle of the Steelers passing charts since Ben's last couple years at QB.

I'm not sure exactly how good of an OC Arthur Smith is, but I'm pretty confident he's better than what he's essentially been allowed to be with the Steelers.

People speculate about Rodgers having regrets after apparently drinking the Tomlin kool-aid from the outside, and I often wonder the same about Smith.

I'm sure he had options after he was fired by the Falcons, given the success he had as the Titans OC.

Queen goes for the punch out instead of the tackle.

The crayons Matt Canada used all belonged to Tomlin. Tomlin only permitted some plays. Sharpies and ball point pens are forbidden. Canada got the blame. Now Aurther Smith gets blamed for being a fuddy duddy, but he can only call what Tomlin allows.

Communication is the problem. But where? From head coach to assistants? From position coaches to players? Between coaches? Between players? All of the above.

Ahhhh.....the Munchak angle. Maybe he will come back. **** Tomlin. **** Rooney and **** Munchak!!!!! Just Kidding. Munchak was the man!!!! Only if we still had him. Imagine how many more SB's we would have. 2? 4? dare I say possibly 6? We will never know I guess.:(

They'd definitely have better OL play over the past 5+ years. That's for sure.

Tomlin would likely still be living in his fears on offense, though.

I know! That’s my point! He should have been used much more but for some reason, he’s not.
Arthur almost tricked the defense on 4th and 2. Lol. Like he tries to do every game.
Austin may be worse.
I'm loving it. Every week the anti tomlin sentiment in the media is getting louder.
Please let us lose out and watch the Bengals do the impossible and win the division.
If that didn't get tomlin fired nothing will.

There are about 30 million reasons why Tomlin is not getting fired this coming off season or next, unless you think Rooney is suddenly going to stop pinching those pennies.

I suppose a mutual parting is possible if Tomlin is certain he has another lined up that pays at least just as much.

We can dream.
