Initial Thoughts on bungles Game

Rodgers certainly has the best arm and knowledge, but he is a liability if he has to move. With the jumbo package I think Rudolph can execute decently. I agree the line gives guys happy feet. It happened with Pickett as well. Guys get instant pressure then you start seeing ghosts. Rodgers has almost no escapability at this point. I would not start Rodgers unless he is 100%

Rodgers did have a long run on 3rd down yesterday and has had some great throws on the run this season, just not as many as in his prime.

I do not think his mobility has diminished as much as Ben's did at the end, but it's definitely not what it once was, with his mind instinctively still wanting to play the game like he has most of his career.

Rodgers is still a decent QB, but there have been a few too many missed throws and ugly plays over the past several games.

It's like his brain just shut off on that safety play against the Chargers, and the Steelers struggled to move the ball for basically the entire Chargers game and most of the first half against a bad Bengals defense.

We all know that if Rodgers is healthy, he is playing the rest of the season, pretty much no matter how he plays, but it might not be ridiculous to think a QB who is 12 years younger than him might give the Steelers an equal chance of winning.

Your tolerance for risk of pain or injury definitely changes dramatically from when you’re in your 20s 30s or even mid 30s to when you start climbing up in the 40s.
Of course, Rogers, physical ability has diminished somewhat, but he is still active enough to be successful if he has the protection needed.
I believe what you’ve seen in Rogers the last several games is someone who is struggling with the ability to disregard the risk of pain or injury, as he has in the past
If he can’t shake that psychological challenge, in my opinion, Rudy is the best option for this team going forward.

This is the best way to describe them really..

I’d love to see what they actually do during practice

Tomlin goes on YouTube and searches “components of football” and things of that nature and has the men randomly brush up on videos from YouTube experts…obviously

If two or three videos are relevant to each other that’s a bonus and usually followed by a competitive game. When the secondary watches stuff like “does single high safety smell purple or green” those are generally followed with the poor communication games.

Rudolph will never get a chance here. He did his job came off the bench cold made plays stood in pocket. No matter what he is a professional even post game his answers give the guy a break.

One thing I noticed, when Rudolph was in, they ran a lot more plays with the QB under center. Rarely see Rodgers under center. I think that actually helped.
They seemed to roll him out of the pocket more too.

Couple quick thoughts from the peanut gallery, although I have many others that I know yinz aren’t sitting on the edge of your seat to hear. But anyway for what it’s worth;

Yeah, I know I’m a mason guy, but I thought the entire offense played with a little more zeal or gleam, as Marty used to say, in their game when he came in.

The other item that I think all of us are missing or at least I didn’t hear anyone mention it, but that defense did a total turnaround from the first bengals game when Flacco, Chase, and Higgins, not to mention the running game destroyed the Steelers D! In my opinion, you got to give Austin and probably Tomlin some credit for that performance on defense yesterday, it was outstanding and of course, a winning performance!

spittin facts

Division wins are always a good thing, but this team isn't going anywhere in the playoffs if they make it at all.
Cincy has the worst defense in like 60 years, and we only had 13 points midway through the 3rd, and 3 of those points were aided by 2 roughing the passer calls and a def pass interference on the same drive that put us into FG range.
I just don't see this team being a threat in the post season and that's the only thing that matters.

Washington should never leave the field on offense; he's the best TE on the team and it's not close.
Mason did what the backup is supposed to do, not **** it up. He was more than solid.
Having no WR who can just get open will keep them from winning anything.
The defense played a good game against an offense with a lot of weapons and a good QB.
A W is a W, beating a garbage team to keep a 1 game lead in the division for now isn't amazing though.
Smith better get into some salts like A-Aron before we play the Rats and do something to change it up.
Off subject, Dan Campbell is a ******* idiot. The Bears will win that division with the guy who actually ran that offense. He cost them a chance to win that game. Don't get me wrong, the Lions OL couldn't block the Eagles, but him not taking points and all the failed 4th down plays was the difference to me. The Eagles had the short field more than half the game.
On to next week, the Bears can be a problem, they better come to play all 60 minutes.

I'm most impressed by the defense today. I wish they had played like this the first game vs the bungles.

As much as everyone is pissed off at Ramsey , I think he got spit on, or atleast he says he did. I'll take his word on it.

It did fire the defense up even more, so it thankfully didn't cost them.

Two defensive touchdowns! TWO. I think the pick 6 is one of the most exciting plays in football. It's rare. And taking one 74 yards to the house? hell yeah. What a swing.

Darnell Washington is a hell of a football player. The guy is the size of a damn OT and he has that kind of athletic ability. He needs used more often and the Steelers need more smash like that in their game.

He will certainly be on the highlight reels all week.
D. Washington should be the tush-push guy. I don't see how you stop him from gaining a yard.

There's probably a few ways to use him in that situation.

I do like him in the open field with a head of steam going north/south. He's a secondaries worst tackling nightmare. Anyway you slice it,it's going to hurt with that type of mass and speed coming at you.

Initial thought: Is it wrong that I'm (kind of) hoping that Rodgers might be out more long-term than short-term?

Other thoughts:
1) Watching Washington plant two defenders on the turf and roll right past another was one of the most entertaining Steelers' moments in recent memory.
2) I disagree with the notion that the offense looks no different with Rudolph as it did with Rodgers. For whatever reason, whether it's the cumulative bumps and bruises as the season has gone on, or it's a fear of taking a hit at his advanced age, AR just doesn't seem to have the ability to hold on to the ball and throw accurate passes down the field. He should have hit DK for a 40+ yard TD last week, and he missed him again on a deep ball yesterday. Yeah, Rudolph got a lot of his yards on the short stuff, but he also can stand in the pocket without the happy feet. That back shoulder pass to Metcalf (which was called back on a bullshit OPI) was a beautiful throw on third down. It was refreshing to see them actually attempt a pass beyond the first down marker on third-and-long for a change.
3) Duggar looks like a solid acquisition, and I loved his quote: “Somebody gives you a gift like that, you've got to maximize it for the defense for the team." That's exactly right...how many times have we seen defensive guys drop balls right in their hands? That play put the Steelers in complete control of the game.
4) Gainwell is just as good or better than Warren in the short passing game. They are a formidable duo.
5) Not much mentioned here about Ja'Marr Chase recording only 3 catches for 30 yards yesterday, after his monster 16-161-1 line against the Steelers a month ago. I'll have to go back and re-watch the game, but it looks like Porter is deserving of some high praise for sure. The Steelers are a much better defense overall with Ramsey at safety.

Nobody really offered Rudolph a contract 2 years in a row when he was an FA. It's not like other teams were lining up to give him an opportunity.

Theres a reason Pierre is on the 53 and starting,, when he wasnt even on the roster at cut downs.
Also
Juan thornhill was given his walking papers.. Now signed with jaguars,, i guess they will have to learn too..

So why wasn't Pierre on the 53 and starting in week one? Did he completely transform in two months at the age of 29, or are the coaches just stupid? They had better elevate Samuel soon, too, before some other team poaches his *** off the practice squad.

Given Tomlin's track record with CBs, I've been wondering the same thing.

They seemed to love Pierre when they first signed him out of college, as he got some hype in his first couple training camps, but then just became an afterthought

Though he never seemed to play quite this well when given opportunities over the past few years, Pierre honestly looked no worse than all the CBs they've been brining in to play ahead of him, IMO.

For all we know, Pierre might have fallen into that infamous Mike Tomlin doghouse in which even Tomlin himself admits is almost impossible to get out of.

I suppose someone had to fill the vacancy left by Kevin Dotson.

I saw and read that Roman appears to have taken the WR2 spot from Austin. He had 39 snaps to 19 for Austin. I hope that is true. He seems to have a good route tree and he gets separation.

And, I do like Pierre being in there. He has come in before and done well. I think when he was the official starter early in his career, he didn't seem to do as well when he is the backup coming in and playing significant snaps,

Totally agree men…
Why 42 has not played much during his career here is a big head scratcher for me, and has been for sometime now.
I might’ve mentioned this before on this site, but I truly believe with Ramsey at safety, Pierre is the team’s best corner.
That play he made on the deep ball to chase on Sunday was pro bowlish like!
However, consistency makes you and above the line professional football player.
Let’s watch the show!

Rodgers has 14 carries for 26 yrds with 2 first downs and a fumble lost. His longest run is 10 yrds so the other 13 carries he got 16 yrds total. Last year with the Jets he had 22 carries for 107 yrds. Several plays he has open field in front he just can not get there. Rodgers seems to move laterally ok, but if he has to turn it up field he can't. Ben's stats the last 2yrs were beyond awful. He had 45 carries for 16 yrds. I'm not sure how that is even possible.
Rodgers seems like he is in a bad mental place right now. He has taken a few bad sacks, missed open guys, and looks a little lost. I feel that he can snap out of it and he definitely still has the arm. I feel he has no confidence in the line and kinda gives up.

He's avoiding hits first and then worrying about completions, shouldn't be that way
