1. Deuce isn't going to fire a coach with two years left on his contract at $16 million a year.

Word is Art and Tomlin are working out a 2-3 year extension as we speak, just in case the 1.5 left on his current deal isn’t enough to get him to the desired win total.

They had leverage on him. It was either sink or swim into a nice large contract with another team at season's end. Likely the only big contract he would ever get. I have a feeling the pros would have far outweighed the cons in a contract year...even with him. It certainly seems to be that way in Dallas. Hes only done one dumb thing of note that i can recall from what I've observed to this point. He's been a model citizen otherwise. Im just saying it was worth the risk. Giving him away for a third when YOU KNEW you had no #2 was downright ridiculous. Where was Khan thinking he was gonna his #2 from??

Why wouldn't he fire him? I dont think they would fire, but only out of respect of a gentlemans agreement. There's no obligation to keep him around after that assuming the team is not immensely improved. You keep falling back on that Rooney Rule like its the Antartic Treaty or had some game changing impact on the league. There's maybe 6 more coaches of color then there was at the time the rule was instituted. Black coaches get fired all the time. Certainly those who have had lack of playoff success. Its not like he wouldn't be a prime candidate for another job. He will have made plenty of money here. There's nothing owed on either side.
I think they will let him ride out his contract, but only because they dont want to pay someone who's not working for them 16 million...not because hes black. It wouldn't matter what color he was. Its also their way of doing things to ride out these contracts, but we also know they're cheap as evidenced by the condition of the field, being graded the worst among NFL teams training facility, etc. If by the end of this current contract they've concluded seasons like they have since 2018 they just won't renew his contract.

Similar to you, I respect most and have no intentional animosity towards anyone.
I like seeing the different theory’s / reasoning / analysis / ect., until the individual becomes antagonistic. Then they are on their own, for sacrificial by many.
I wear my emotions & knowledge on my sleeve and sometimes speak before I think, but also know I’m willing to eat crow (slow BBq’d with HOT sauce) and make amends when needed.

Almost every one here is a Steeler fan at heart here, it’s good to remember that
I don't disagree with the shrapnel that came off from trading Pickens, but trading him was the right decision, if some of the things be said about him were accurate. Apparently, his teammates couldn't stand him and wanted him gone. He was late to meeting and games. We saw him not block for teammates and dog routes. It was just necessary. Now, not having a better plan for a #2, yeah, I agree. But I don't think they were ever gonna pay big money to two wide receivers, so that cuts down options. The draft was discussed as being a down year for wide receivers in, but more so after, the 1st, and they had to get younger on the DL. The problem is they just don't develop players anymore, or the evaluation process is lacking. Wilson should be a contributing, effective #2. He isn't. Why?
Btw, he had a stupid penalty late in the opening game against the Eagles that blew up a scoring chance, and the other week against the Cardinals he took another stupid penalty as the Cowboys were trying to mount a comeback.

I don't advocate firing him, it isn't the Steeler way for better or worse. I would be fine with him "retiring" like Noll.

I think Noll had a little more self-awareness. He understood where he was. Tomlin doesn't seem to. I rarely listen to a thing any coach says, but last year after he made the switch to Wilson, and it started off well and he talked about that is why he is highly compensated. Then it blew up. Ok. But wouldn't you learn from that and maybe not spout off before the year about legendary defense? Like I said, lack of self-awareness. Like maybe this style of offense and defense isn't working anymore. Let's change it. But no, we'll just continue to bang our heads against the wall.
And I like the guy. But the reality is the reality.

Well at some point Rooney has to say no more Mike. You can call it whatever you want.
I’ll ask you again: if there is no playoff win after this season do you advocate telling him he can “retire” on his own or be fired?
Or do you advocate letting Tomlin coach as long as he wants and retire on his own time?

That would all depend on the manner it happens. If we look like we did last week on offense from here out and he doesn't make big changes, then yes. If we improve and it looks like we are heading the right direction, then we don't even have to make the playoffs to keep him. Ask me again after we see what happens. For me it isn't about wins and losses unless we win it all, it is about progress.

Gonna miss my prediction of winning the Tomlinship in Week 13.
I think it is much more an evaluation issue. I really question how much development goes on at the pro level anywhere. Players either have it or they don't in the pros, imo. I think the fact that very few players the Steelers draft go on and hit it big elsewhere shows that. So where is the disconnect in evaluation?

We only have 1 legitimate WR, our starting RB isn't up to being a true number 1 back and the O-line is cheeks.
Don't have the ingredients for a good recipe on offense.
Seems like the offense doesn't even know what Smith is attempting as well, every play looks clunky and theres no flow on any of our drives.
Next year its time for an offensive minded head coach and a new OC.

For example, Shades cut his teeth as a DB coach and DC but his best DB's were all either 1) already here when he arrived or 2) signed or traded from other teams.
He has not developed a single good DB on his own in 18 years.

No, I was in LA for another trial so I went to bed at about 7:00 p.m. A much better use of my time than watching what I could see was another Tomlin masterpiece in the making. I feel sorry for the poor souls who suffered through that clownshow, and feel particularly sorry for @ZonaBurgh for spending a LOT of his time and money for the display.
