Of signing Rodgers at 41 years old and signing Metcalf at 150 million dollars if we aren't going to throw the damn ball? The people on the radio have loved talking about Rodgers as being the best QB to ever play in Pittsburgh, and that he's light years better than Ben's last couple of seasons.
Maybe Rodgers is better now than Ben was post elbow, but Ben was given one of the worse Olines in team history and his receivers were Dionte, Chase, and Ray-Ray, with a rookie RB and rookie TE. Rodgers has a much better Oline and much better weapons.
That team with Ben, with a horrible Oline, and crap weapons averaged 30 yards more per game passing, why/how? We lead the NFL in 3 and outs also.
What the hell was the point of bringing Rodgers in and paying a WR that kind of money if we aren't going to throw the damn ball? DK has 13 catches 145 yards and 1 TD in the past 4 games.
I guess this was Tomlin's way to save his non losing streak.

The point is to throw good money at bad leadership. It's kind of a bandaid on cancer kind of thing.

BTW, kudos to you for thinking there is rationale behind it. You like to give the benefit of the doubt, and I admire that.

Most of Steelernation and the media was too busy putting Kaleb Johnson in the training camp hall of fame to see what was really going down.
Meanwhile
Arthur Smith is trash, DK is an overpriced WR 2, and the Steelers shot themselves in the foot trading Pickens.
Been saying it for months. People didn't believe it.
Wake up people.
Any team serious about winning doesn't trade the best weapon.
Yesterday was what Tomlin's entire career would look like without a HOF QB doing the heavy lifting. Masking his ineptitude.

While we have Julian Edelman saying we're running the same ******* defense since he was in New England. I'm waiting for some defensive guy to chime in and say that while the OCs have changed, the offense remains essentially the same carbon copy year in and year out since he last played.

I'll admit that in the first couple of games, some of the offensive formations were creative and used sucessfully to exploit the defense for solid gains. WTF has all that gone? it was suddenly ****-canned and for what reason?

Trading Pickens is proving to be - thus far - the one WR traded away who is going against the grain and being successful. There was zero reason to trade him other than just wanting him off the roster. Entering the last season on his rookie contract, he was going to be playing for his next pay day. Instead of reaping the reward of a highly motivated and highly talented WR, we traded him for a third round pick and later pick swaps. Woo. Nice move, Kevin Khan. ****, a compensation pick for Pickens next season would have been at least a 3rd. Ignorance prevailed over self-gratification thinking they were smarter than everyone else again. Pickens and Metcalf would have been a physical duo at WR that could have really pushed the safeties off the LOS, opening the run game. Nah... we'll take this bullshit trade. Then try to squeak out a trade at the deadline for a #2 WR. That worked well.

Then, this week we sign MVS out of the retirement home... and he doesnt play.
While we also sign a DT - Brodric Martin-Rhodes - whom no one ever heard of, who doesnt play and we have to **** around with the Practice Squad for no reason at all.

just glorious happenings this past week.

IMO - Aaron is done. Sure, he has the arm to make the throws and he can read the defense pre-snap. Problem is, after the snap he doesnt have the ability any more to escape the collapsing pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. Yeah, he over threw Metcalf on that one play, but ... man, he looked old AF last night. That's not likely to get any better as the season goes on and it gets colder.

With that game out of reach after the offense sputtered at the 10 and the Chargers then systematically marched 90 yards for a score, a real coach would have seen the writing on the wall in neon paint. Put Rodgers on the bench, the game is over. Rest the starters and don't risk injury in a non-winnable game. Inserting Mason would have been equally idiotic as keeping Aaron, TJ, the Jaylens, Metcalf, etc in the game. It was a PRIME time to see what we might have in our rookie QB, IMO. Even if he did nothing, and threw an INT, he'd get real time exposure to an NFL game. Nah... TJ's late sack to pad his stats and the late TD to pad Aaron's were somehow worth it.

Only the Raiders and Panthers scored less than we did this week. And those franchises are fully aware that they're going nowhere this season. Time to remove the blinders and face the music.

GREAT post Supe, appreciate yaz !!!!

Reminds of when the Tomlin kept Bell in a PO game so he could break some PO rushing record…….. only to come up lame from over use in the next PO game facing the cheateriots.

This coaching staff has ZERO everything.

Salute the nation

I thought we should have ran the ball more
Get more first downs that would have led to more passing. We can’t get a lot of passing yards if we are not getting first downs.
The Chargers where playing the pass and we where running the ball well.
The passing game was getting nothing done

The Steelers had twice as many pass plays as running plays against the Chargers. The problem was less than half of them worked.

Im talking in general, not just last night. We're averaging 205 yards passing per game this season. Why pay a WR 150 million dollars and let a 41 year old QB hold you hostage all offseason?

I'm talking in general, not just last night, we were down two scores in the second half so we should have more passing plays. We are averaging 205 passing yards per game, with a 150 million dollar WR and a future HOF QB that held us hostage all offseason.

Pickens was done here. It was not going to work. He is playing well in Dallas, but he keeps doing stupid things. I'm not saying trading for Metcalf was the best thing, either. But we gotta let the Pickens thing go. He was never going to be here this year. It was over. He was a punk here way too much. I'm would have gotten rid of his asss a lot sooner, after he refused to block for Warren. Guy has tons of talent, it's a shame.

Coryea, you don’t have to defend Ben to us here, we know what he meant to this organization.
When Tomlin inserted Kendrick Green at center in Bens’s last year that said it all for me.
Ben kept Tomlin’s ridiculous non losing streak alive all those years.
Since Ben’s departure it’s been a revolving door at QB and next season will be another one.
Rumor has it the midget in Arizona,Murray could be an option. That would fit right into another Tomlinism season.

I'm not trying to defend Ben, the point is Tomlin and the organization obviously thought highly of Rodgers to let him hold them hostage in the offseason, then to sign a 150 million dollar WR only to average 30 yards less per game passing than what we did with a horrible Oline, no weapons, and what everyone said was a washed up QB. If the plan is to play it safe and conservative why the hell pay DK and bring in Rodgers for one season?

Coryea, you know better! None of anything Tomlin does really ever makes sense.
The team is a collection of aging veterans, young players undeveloped and very poor coaching and game preparation.
It’s a bad combination and Tomlin may finally be getting exposed. Remember, he’s the ******* architect of this mess.
He wanted Rodgers, DK, Slay, and Ramsey now he’s got to live with it.
Ben was a huge bandaid that covered up a lot of the wound inflicted by Tomlin.
They never won games because of Tomlin, it was strictly Ben that was the glue that held that offense together for years.
Nothing changes until this fraud is gone.

The Steelers need to find someone to carry Ayahuasca A-Ron's joy juice to the away games.

He looked and played like a hyper-sensitive old man who's "medications" were off balance.

Maybe he sampled some local LA products on Saturday and his "ride" was a little longer than he expected.

From 4-1 to 5-4. Guess the collapse is starting early this season.
Remember that time when the Steelers lost a few games in the middle of the season, we're under 500 by a couple games, then won 4 in a row to eke out the last playoff spot........and won the SB?

Well that was with the previous coach.

The point is to create a narrative that maybe the team is going to contend. Ive head coached Youth and HS for more 15 years. You know pretty well in practice what you got. They dont give a ****. Tomlin keeps trotting out the same tired bullshit. The offense is still more predicated on not turning the ball over then being explosive. And when they get multiple TO's yeah they can beat some ok teams. If it's someone good, who doesn't turn the ball over......they are hooped. I don't believe he can possibly get another contract. Im hoping they will agree to move on after next season. That's best case scenario.

Pickens will have boneheaded plays, but the reason for his lack of effort and attitude was lack of production. If they fed him the ball he would've been fine here. No surprise at all he's putting up huge numbers in Dallas' offense.

Back to the original post, I don't think the idea was to air the ball out. I think it was to have a strong ground game with a competent passer so they could finish above .500 and maybe make the playoffs. When they made the move for DK, Ramsey, and Smith, I truly think winning a playoff game became the goal. The problem is the approach hasn't changed and this team looks the same despite different players.

Second paragraph is money. I disagree with first. I think Pickens is a petulent *****. Leopards dont change spots just hide better for a while. He will implode in big D. Just wait.
