College Football Week 11

Different coach, same result ... choke against a top 10 team
I’ll never understand the defensive philosophy on IU’s final drive. Play prevent until they get inside the 10, then get aggressive. Maybe be aggressive so they don’t get inside the 10.

Jim Knowles should be fired like 20 minutes ago. Kotelnicki should be about two minutes after him. There’s nothing left to win and they aren’t part of the solution anyway.

My expectations for this season at this point were calculating PSUs national championship path and wondering what Pitt could do to get past the hump... right now, at least, those two narratives are flipped
I’m curious to see what Pitt can do with their new QB and wondering if he’ll enter the transfer portal.

Great game by Penn State. You have to give interim coach Terry Smith tons of credit for getting this team to play hard. In the NIL era, most teams in PSU's situation probably would have folded.

Jim Knowles did a great job with the gameplan this week and in using some young guys on defense. That final drive, Indiana WRs just made some great individual plays.

Penn State outplayed Indiana today and should have won. They just had some bad luck in key moments. That fumble by Kaytron where he's being twisted down and the ball hits on a helmet a split second before his knee hits.

The worst luck was the play before the final Indiana TD. Penn State tips the ball in the air, they have a LB in perfect position and he slips as he goes for the ball. If he doesn't slip, that's an easy INT to end the game. That's sums up the season.

Very few gimmick plays is a positive. Did they relieve Kotalniki of playcalling duties at halftime? They came out in the 2nd half and actually threw down the field. The WRs still suck so they were open very often but they got open sometimes at least. As soon as they complete a few downfield passes, the run game opens up.

Did Nick Singleton get glasses? All season, he's been just running straight into tacklers. Today he was his old self, making guys miss in space and showing his speed.

Grunkemeyer looked good. Sometimes when you make things simple for the QB, you actually make it tougher because the defense is up in his face. He wasn't perfect but for a guy making his 3rd start, it was pretty damn good.

It's another loss to a top team but this was different. This wasn't a game where PSU was just hanging on and playing close. They played without fear and took it to them and had a legit shot to win this one.

What impressed me about Mendoza is his confidence. He was under quite a bit of pressure and it didn't rattle him. He threw what could have been a game losing INT and he put it behind him and led the game winning drive. Mendoza has the dead eye look that a top QB needs.

I don't see elite arm talent. As an NFL QB I think he needs to be in the right offense. Teams that run a variation of the Shanahan offense will be drooling over him.

Oregon pulls it out with a last minute FG drive. And I'm still not sure how good Oregon is.

It's very Steeler like on defense.

Losing because a QB and WR made an incredible play is one thing, but losing like this

Interesting how Penn State makes QBs look like Heisman Trophy candidates. First Sayin, now Mendoza. I was impressed that PSU covered the spread and even had a chance to win if they could have kept IU out of the end zone.

Mendoza sucked until that last drive. Heisman moment, not a Heisman game.

And both QBs have been torching everyone, not just PSU.

The defense on that last drive was beyond comprehension. They played a good game against a quality offense up until that point. Few people will remember that though. They’ll just remember that last drive. Yeah, there were two ridiculous catches on that drive, but the plays that put them in that position killed them.

And I know it’s not just Penn State. Every team does that crap. You get a sack on first down, then you could see they called off the dogs in the pass rush, opting instead to keep Mendoza in the pocket and play a soft zone behind that. They went right down the field before the two ridiculous catches. Never should have come to that.

Sayin and Mendoza are literally the top two Heisman candidates.
