WR Trade Market/CAIII

If what some say is true, then Roman was a wasted pick. Who could for-see that he couldn’t catch on. He could have slinked the interviews and maybe we didn’t do enough to investigate. There is also the “player whisperer” aspect of the situation as well.

Not pointing fingers, but if he isn’t going to get it, move on unless willing to pay the low dollar rookie salary in hopes the investment can return some sort of payback.

Either way, this situation makes leadership look bad.

I just think in the Smith offense, Wilson wont get a lot of chances to show much at 3wr, and honestly, until he shows stuff on the field, Tomlin will absolutely play known vets over him... its just what he does. He is really conservative unless you force his hand
Based on what we've seen from Smith's offense, almost nobody in the passing game gets to show too much.

I meet some very interesting people when I play Madden online.

On Thursday, I had the absolute pleasure of playing a local Yinzer, who is the strength and conditioning coach, at Pitt. He beat me 7-0 the first game (the game stupidly allows same team matches so it was Steelers vs. Steelers). And I won the second matchup 20-17; but he started talking to me in the second game and I learned that Darnell Washington is the biggest and baddest dude in the gym and none of the Steelers want to workout with him because he's an absolute beast!!!

Then we talked about Roman Wilson... his opinion was quite enlightening--- he said that Roman can't get in the field because he still hasn't caught on to the plays and doesn't run the right routes if an audible is called.

That's shocking. I still like Wilson but I wish he was smarter...
Just makes me wonder how you can go from playing neighborhood pick up games through college at a major program without the ability to grasp a playbook.

Wilson could be dealing with a learning disability like auditory processing disorder.

That is something that may not be easily picked up in a standard interview. And it doesn't mean that the lad is stupid, just that he might have a problem. Your average person hears an audible and knows what is expected within a second or so. People with APO may take 5/6 seconds or more to fully process what they hear. That delay would not transfer well to an NFL field. Michigan ran a run-heavy offense and Wilson may have only been asked to block and run a very limited route tree.

Wilson, Blake Corum, and JJ McCarthy all struggling to get PT and even after they do they look lost.

It’s becoming crystal clear that Connor Stalions was the MVP of the UM run a couple years ago.
McCarthy is not struggling to get playing time he just can't stay healthy. They got rid of Darnold to hand McCarthy the starting job. As for Wilson he hasn't gotten much of a chance. He produced in preseason though. They should throw him in there and give him a legit chance. Some just don't practice well

I wasnt on board last year with getting Olave... the price was high and he has injury concerns... but that price should be down... the saints cant realistically extend him long term... and they wont be a contender next year or this season... and they need the cap space. They are 10-15 million over in 26 and Olave costs 15 mil guaranteed

Nfl GMs have to learn with guaranteed contracts, cap space is an asset.

Isaiah Williams- I know this guy just got released from the Jets for a couple of special teams gaffes, but the Steelers might want to seriously consider putting him on their practice squad...just dont use him to return kicks.

After reading one of the click-bait Steelers potential trade articles, I'm convinced the team needs to make sure we trade for another WR during the season like last year since that worked out so well (sarcasm). Williams was better than most of what the team had on the field at the position, yet Tomlin basically refused to play him (more of a knock on the overall WR talent than Williams being amazing).

I don't know if that was Tomlin sticking it to Khan because he didn't want the pick in the first place, but the Steelers wasted draft picks on both offense and defense last year that barely sniffed the filed.

Methinks a trade for a WR would have to happen today in order to utilize said player this week. So, I doubt anything happens.

I guess we'll see a bit more of Roman, Scotty and Thor... the problem, IMO, these guys don't scare anyone in the Browns secondary.

I was thinking about this last night during the Bills/Patriots in the 4th quarter. The Steelers have a legit shot (yeah I know, still a ways away) to grab at least the 2nd seed if not the 1st. If it were my team, I’m getting someone in here. I’m hoping the Steelers are sending the opportunity as well.

as soon as we trade for him, his first hit will knock the oatmeal out of his ears.

no. hard no.

I think Roman is a Tomlin/development issue. Roman was injured his rookie season. He came back in great shape for OTA's in year 2, and reports were he looked good. It was said he looked good in camp. In the preseason games, he had 2 catches on 2 targets, 19 yard longest; 2 catches on 4 targets, 42 yard longest; 0 targets. He hasn't been in games much at all since the season started.

It's just odd to hear the pundits and other camp observers say he was playing well, and then the games start, and he barely sniffs the field. It makes no sense. They need to play him as WR2 or WR3 this week. Give the dude some snaps and targets in a real game. He has good hands. He's fast and supposedly runs decent routes. Give him a shot.

But, my guess is Tomlin will keep putting Skoworek (sp?) and Miller ahead of Roman.

Even in their very limited play time both of those players were instrumental in each getting a victory in two separate games.

Without both of them Tomlin’s Steelers miss the playoffs…I’m sure he blames them both for forcing him to expose himself as a piss poor playoff coach.

Mike tried his hardest to miss that opportunity for embarrassing himself but they were instrumental in helping build a lead that the other playoff contenders couldn’t catch up from despite Mikes best efforts to tank the possibility with his losing streak to back out of the playoff possibility:

Disagree....you have to at least give it a try. If CeeDee Lamb or Mike Evans goes down you dont have a #2 behind them the level of Pickens or Egbuka who can help spell that gap while those guys are gone. If DK goes down the Steelers are beyond screwed much like they were when Pickens went down last year. They had no chance.

"Both of those players" as in Williams and who else?

Olave isnt in the same category as Lamb or Evans. He's more in the level of Diontae Johnson at this point.

FIVE concussions since 2020.

Your line of thinking has us also trading for Tua.

and why not, he's only had four concussions. One less than CeeDee Olave Evans.

First of all your reading and comprehension is a little off. I was using Lamb and Evans as examples of #1s who are now out, but have solid#2s behind them. Olave would be the solid number #2 if he were here. I didnt bother to really read what else you had to say because you lost me at saying he wasnt in the same category as Lamb and Evans which I never stated nor implied he was. Furthermore im fine with him being what Diontae Johnson was because Diontae Johnson moved the first down chains at least. So a Diontae Johnson with better hands, less attitude, and a team leader is fine with me. Give him a helmet designed to reduce brain injuries and top it off with a guardian cap, but dont just disregard him as an option. Steelers aren't really in a position to do that.

I provided some insight on Roman's 'game time' expectations. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to the depth of the playbook and he can handle 2 or 3 plays, at once, a QB like A A Ron, who will change the play, at a whim, may not choose one of those three plays he knows and it has kept him off the field...

I kind of agree, but, Olave has too many concussions to make me feel comfortable paying nearly 15 million for the rental. We already have Muth on the roster w/ the same concerns and you see how little he's been involved each week...

Its more scheme related when it comes to Muth though...not because of his concussions. Muth is a liability in the blocking game (including any assignments he may have in pass pro) which means hes going to continue to be used less and less especially if this team plans to turn into a running focused offense. I think the extension they gave Muth is proof they are not worried about his concussions plus there is incentives built into his new contract based on his performance and health. They could do the same with Olave by making a good portion of his salary incentive based.

Muth’s lack of involvement isn’t concerns about his past concussions.
It’s his a$$ blocking abilities…a trait Jonnu also shares.

This team looks much more effective with a 6th OL and Washington on the field than the two massively overpaid square pegs Muth and Smith.
