Going for it on 4th down

One thing revealed in Dublin was a tush push variant that seemed pretty damn effective…so effective that it only required 10 players as the QB simply stood in the backfield signaling first down.

Think it was baby Heyward as the ball handler with Gainwell flanking his left and Mount Washington to his right with the primary shove in the back role on the play.

At any rate something finally worked in short yardage and it only took 10 players! Let’s see if teams can actually stop this play.

Exactly. The ONLY concern is that Connor Heyward is not experienced at taking snaps under center so the chances of a glitch in the exchange are much higher than when Hurts runs the play.

But even acknowledging that issue, I am not sure how teams are going to stop McCormick, Frazier, Seumalo, Heyward, Gainwell/other RB, and Washington from pushing the ball carrier at least a yard.

Here's the thing about the Steelers. I think they run better with less people in the box. Inside the 10 to 3......Id spread them out with say Washington. Bring him in motion. Run a lead and try to score that way on the run. I never felt good about 4th and goal and 4th and one. Id have punted too. Only thing Id have got the punter to make s better effort to pin them.

You’d think there would be lots of tape of this happening when Broderick Jones and Washington did this for the Georgia Bulldogs . Oh wait…..there is.
Many times played on the same sides with a ton of success. It was one of the reasons I was glad to have both with familiarity for each other on the team.

And they are using that to some measure of success. I just think when you put a team that primarily zone finesss blocks and ask them to mash it up in short yardage......not good.

I’ll definitely take my chances with the snap exchange over some of the absolute garbage concepts we’ve ran on short yardage…at least until Connor proves he can’t handle the exchange.
