Initial Thoughts on viking game

Much better running game, much better run defense and a really good game ... what a shock that Tomlin's Team made it a 4th quarter one-possession nailbiter. That never happens.
Finally. Thank you for mentioning this because it seems no one else is giving credit to the defense for only giving up 56 yards on the ground.

That is huge (calm down @CoolieMan)...

Bottom line is we are 3-1.
Up until the start of the 4th quarter,I thought it was our best coached and executed game this season.

Seems like the board was 50-50 with the 4th down decision. Personally I’ll admit I was for it. The play call was ridiculous. Play action roll out to Pat,DK or our mountain TE. You could see Rodgers wanted to go for it. You could also see he wasn’t impressed by the call. How you don’t let him throw ,with all the TD’s he’s had is mind boggling. It was 4th down clock stops regardless. The way the D was playing it would be a 95 yard drive. No way that could happen….right?🤪
Carson Wentz. 350 yards passing. Good lord. Nice pooch kick by Waitman. 🤨
Nick Herbig is only 23. Monster game. DK….good game. Gainwell great game 99 yards. Rodgers, efficient.

A game I thought we would lose,so I am happy for the win.
And lastly our resident one trick pony troll that grants the team a win with 5 minutes to go should go sit in the corner and take aTO for a couple weeks.
But won't everyone miss @KentuckySteeler ???

By far their best game, saw some good stuff on defense, saw a decent amount of blitzes. I think Watt should get half a sack every time someone blitzes and the Oline shifts to Watt allowing the blitzer a free run at the QB like yesterday on I believe it was Wilson's sack, that's at least the 2nd time this year we lined up and blitzed to Watt's inside the Oline shifted so much towards Watt the blitzer was given a free run at the QB.
After the first drive the O did well keeping Minnesota guessing and off balance.

Good win...especially with challenges of playing overseas..
Shouldn't of been that close really.
Many positives and of course still some concerns.....but this is a black and white profession...no style points as our beloved head coach likes to say..

IMHO---My most positive take way from the contest today was the outstanding blitz and pressure packages they displayed throughout the game....It was schematically very good, took full advantage of our players skill sets, and executed even better.

Love the pressure packages lately!

It can never be easy with Tomlin teams.
Always a rock fight decided on the last possession.
How the hell do you excuse the 4th and half yard where you take a delay of game. Very poor click management.
Defense goes to sleep on Addison’s long catch and run. More communication issues perhaps.
They won in spite of shades and Austin.

Once they went turtle ball in the 4th, it allowed Vikings right back into game.

I hate international games

Join the club, From day one of the international games conception, I was against it.

They could have just kept Euro=league as a farm club for the NFL and got foreign interest abound.

Defense seems like they came to play today

looks like they listenedto my post in the college game thread...see vids below

EVERYBODY listens to your post(s) and snoring..........

offense looks beter today also

gainwell is running hard

god I hate international games

defense showing up big

huge plays by Benton,Herbig Watt...Elliot...damn even Wilson made a play

gainwell looked damn good

OL really opened some holes today

Wilson's hustle to catch the WR was impressive

Defense folding late sucks ***

Turtle ball on both side of the ball. The defense was aggressive early, when was the last time you saw 6 rushing the QB ? At around 8 minutes left in the 4th, up 24-6, was the act of turtle ball put in motion. The resulting extreme finish is what you get.

don't mind going for it on 4th and goal...but the play call sucked hit one of your big guys up high

Roman Wilson actually contributed

how do you not get the ball snapped on 4th and 1 with the game on the line

We've had this kind of issue in the past, but it sucks big time in close games. Sometimes to many men on the field.......................

lots of secondary guys going down- hopefully the bye week gives them time to come back

should not havebeen sitting there sweating out the finish

GOD I HATE INTERNATIONAL GAMES

Great post Coolie, appreciate these.

If, by some miracle, Houston and the Rams both beat the Ravens the next two weeks, I dont think we will see certain posters here until we play the Ravens at the end of the year

Three steelers finally played a solid game for the most part. Up 3 scores with over less than 8 mins left i was like finally a stress free game. Of course that did not turn out to be the case. I was fine going for it 4th and goal, but no clue what they were doing on D. Wilson made an insane play to use up precious clock. On offense the line played solid. I still see them getting pushed back, but at least they were able to create holes. I don't think they are quite in sync yet, and they still appear to be a jumble of bodies, but it was an improvement. Gainwell played well. I do not think he is a bad player i just feel we wasted a pick on Kaleb if we are not going to even attempt to use him. I also don't the lack of snaps for Wilson. With CAIII down i sure hope they get Wilson involved

Doing what he was told to do. You act as if he refuses to call the plays to himself
Maybe he’s just not that good! Personally I think he’s average. Not really good but not really bad. Just average! He fits right in!

On the 4th and goal from the 3, perhaps Steelers could consider having Mt. Washington go 1 yard into the endzone against a guy who weighs 50 to 80 lbs. less than he does, turn around and catch the ball from A-A-Ron.

Pretty sure that the Steelers aren't allowed to win by more than 3.
If I was motivated, I'd look at the margin of victory by the last 3 coaches, but alas, I'm not.

Why they don't have Washington running 2 yards, box out and get the jump ball is beyond me.

It's almost as if that was the intent for compelling TV drama. We just can't have a sound *** kicking win from start to finish.

Personally, I’m not sure we can honestly evaluate him based on this clusterfuk that is the Mediocre Mike offensive philosophy.

Tomlin likes it when its close.
He has also said to the effect that he doesn’t want his teams to pile on points. He feels that is embarrassing to teams and might give them additional motivation at a later date.

What a pansy *** philosophy if he said that. Someone give him about 200 mg of testosterone weekly and mail him a copy of Sun Tzu's "The Art Of War"

Motivation comes and goes. Who gives a **** about that. Self discipline will always prevail.

Headline from another article, to show those still hugging on Tomlin's nuts that others also feel strongly:

Steelers overcome Mike Tomlin’s cowardice, defeat Vikings

I actually think going for it was ballsy, it was stupid too because of the playcall, but not taking the points wasn't cowardly

Agreed. Think the meant the late punt and a few other decisions.

Many are calling out Tomlin
