College Football Week 5

Drew Allar lol. Dude has zero clutch gene. Fear in his eyes after Oregon scored in the second OT and goes out and throws that pick.
 
That’s twice he threw a pick to lose to Oregon. I’m glad they made a game of it, but they have problems. Drew Allar and Andy Kotelnicki are the two biggest.
 
Dude throws into triple coverage in 2OT. WTF? I wouldn't draft that guy in the Canadian Football League.
 
All of my horses lost this week. Florida State,Georgia and Penn State. Blah

The Pens won a preseason game with Fleury playing a period,that was kinda cool.

The Steelers are the only ones left to redeem the weekend...haha.
 
That's Allar for you. Flashes of greatness then a completely unaccusable brain fart trying to do too much.

PSU might be a top 10 team but they are nowhere near the #2 team in the country.

They still have a mediocre passing attack at best.

Honestly, I can't watch Penn State games anymore. I can now see why they kept Sean Clifford for so long. Allar just doesn't have what it takes to make it in the pros - scratch him off the list of QBs to go in the first round.

I don't think I'm being hyperbolic when I say Penn State should not ever be rated in the top 10 until Franklin can beat one. I'm the biggest Nittany Lion homer but even I can admit any top 10 rating is on history only. I'm done with it.

I’m an alumnus, so UGA is my team regardless of outcome.


My disappointment with UGA vs Bama is Georgia can get all the momentum and they tend to make the most mental of mistakes that make Tomlin look like a genius.


Some games that come to mind.
UGA/Bama 2012 SEC championship. Bad clock management.

UGA/Bama 2018 national championship. Conservative playcalling at the end.

Tonight - I had a chance to catch the 2nd half. Kirby definitely had some questionable playcalling. I was not a fan of the aggressive 4th down attempt. Especially running a 170lb running back in Cash Jones. Take the points there.

I’m a little opposite this season.
I’m starting to become a little more interested in the Steelers over college this year.

I don’t know if it’s age or something. But I’m starting to appreciate the complexities and parity of the pros this year.


Of course I still hate the higher ups of the nfl, the corporate greediness of the owners and the watered down rules to neuter the defense. But, something about the pro’s this year. Must be a mid life crisis

I like him. I don’t love him. In my opinion he is the greatest college coach of all time.


With NIL in the mix, I don’t see any coach winning national championships in abundance again, unless it’s a school with serious $$$ and alumni pull/donors.
 
My Penn State thoughts.

First I'll start with the defense. This defense is for real. Jim Knowles is a great DC. They held down a potent Oregon offense and only gave up points late when the wore down.

The refs were awful. I'm not blaming the loss on this but they allowed Oregon to hold all game. Oregon will probably lose in the playoffs when a non Big 10 crew calls their weak OT for like 10 holds. Not blaming the loss on that but it was egregious.

Penn State's OC lost the game.

I'm mad. Not disappointed, but mad. Penn State should have won this. I think they have more talent than Oregon, but Penn State's offense is a joke.

I alluded to this in my game write up. I was hoping that the OC was holding back. Nope. This is all there is,. He's a 2nd rate Big 12 gimmick OC. He's Matt Canada. I just hope Penn State is not dumb enough to bring him back for year 3.

Penn State's OC lost this game. That's end of story. The passing game is high school. The only thing that can make this slop successful is if the OL dominates enough to run for 300 yards or the QB is a runner. A real runner, not just a chain mover like Allar. This high school offense requires that element.

Once again, i stupidly assumed, or just wished that they had a real passing game, featuring new WRs just ready to spring on an unsuspecting Oregon. Nope. Same old limited Tecmo Bowl passing game. Remember to drink tour Ovaltine!

Do they fire this clown in season or wait until after the year?

I owe last year's WRs an apology. No they weren't great, but I see now that nobody gets open in this remedial passing offense.

I watch lots of college football. Nearly every game, I see QBs getting easy completions on slants and crosser that are rub routes, bubble screens, getting guys in open space for easy completions and rn after catch potential. Penn State;s offense has almost non of that.

Here's the part where i defend Drew Allar. Yes, he misses some throws, but he's set up to fail in this scheme. So many of his throws are in 3rd and long and the defense is not fooled at all. They're sitting on everything. Most college QBs throw to a 1st or second read. Allar has to read the whole field and then make a tight window throw almost all the time. I don;t care who you are, that's tough. Chris Simms defended Allar on the halftime show, saying pretty much that. Nobody is open.

When Penn State went down 14, you saw what Allar could do when you spread it out and let him sling it. He's not perfect but he'd be a lot better if that's how the offense was from kickoff and not waiting until desperation time.

Nick Singleton sucks. I have no idea what happened to him but he's getting worse. He now has ZERO vision. He runs straight to the hole and then just burrows into the back of the OL or runs directly into the first defender he sees. Kaytron Allen is far superior and is getting better.

Kaytron looks like Lev Bell. Seriously. He is so patient. Sets up blocks. Makes people miss. He gets the max out of every carry.
Tonight's stats. Singleton 11 for 21. Kaytron 12 for 54.

It's worse than watching Gainwell get carries over Warren. It's a ******* joke.

Where does Penn State go from here. Ohio State's offense is a bit hit or miss. Penn State has a chance to beat them but they won't. It will be close but Penn State's high school offense won't score enough. I think they beat Indiana, finish with 2 losses and make the playoffs where they win a game, maybe 2 and then lose because they have a high school offense.

Hire a real OC for next year.

He misses way too many easy passes. The last play wasn’t the play call, it was Allar’s ball placement. He short armed that **** right to the defender. If he gets air under it, out in front of the TE it is incomplete at worst. No, my guy throws it on a line where there’s THREE guys underneath. Stupid.

Three weeks ago, WVU made Pitt eat feces. Since then, WVU has lost by 31 and 34 points. Putz Nardopey is the worst coach in D1 and it's not even close.

Franklin State U is at least consistent against top 10 teams.

Georgia should just forfeit anytime it has to play Bama.

Pitt blew a huge lead at home this week. they benched their QB so they basically don’t have a starter. The losing streak against P5 is bad.

It’s time to make a change. Narduzzi isn’t a coach who’s adapted to the pay-for-play era.

That last INT was underthrown but there was a DB coming over the top. If he put more air on it, that DB may have had the INT. He shouldn't have thrown it or just threw it OOB.

It's funny to hear somebody bring up Clifford. He was hated by most Penn State fans. First they wanted Will Levis, then they wanted Allar to start as a freshman. Maybe Allar will flame out in the NFL, but I think he will be a solid NFL QB. It's clear that this offense is built on having a running QB and without that it simply doesn't work.

This OC is not good enough to modify his offense for a pocket passer so Allar is literally in a no win situation against good teams. Unless the defense is poorly coached and they fall for simple ball fakes, the WRs will struggle to get open.

If Allar is told he does not have a 1st round grade, he should transfer and play for a team that knows how to pass the ball. Go to Miami after Beck leaves.

There was a hilarious moment during ESPN's pregame show where they were talking about the struggles of Dabo Sweeney at Clemson. Saban then with a straight face said - Some of us old school coaches struggled with the idea of paying players.

Hilarious pretending that it was his electric personality that made him a great recruiter once he went to the SEC. I guess his advice to Dabo should be to hire a bagman to pay the players so he can pretend nobody is getting money.

You're probably right. Clifford wasn't the best, but he was a gamer. Allar has zero clutch gene and is getting very close to being undraftable for me.

-John Mateer
-Dante Moore
-Fernando Mendoza
-LaNorris Sellers
-Carson Beck
