What needs adjustment post game 3.

The defense needs to play better so our running game is better, LMAO, that was what Tomlin blamed the lack of a running game on, our defense isn't playing good enough. Weren't we up 14-0? I forgot, the offense isn't allowed to stay on the field, what a moron.
Im pretty sure he didnt say that. That makes zero sense. What was the exact quote?

Justin Layne, Mason Rudolph, Dri Archer were also third round picks for the Steelers. More recently, why spend a third on Roman Wilson if they're just going to make him a statue 3 times a game?
For all the love he get Kahn has blown it bigtime drafting skill guys. Since 2022 the only player that was worth his draft pick was traded away, instead of keeping him around for basically free.
Heyward, Austin, Washington, Wilson and now Johnson.
Find me a single team in the league that has gotten less production out of the last 5 skill positions drafted.
There isn't one

Heyward???

Conner.
6 receptions and 40 yards in 2024.
He must be blackmailing someone to maintain his roster spot.
Is he a high pick investment to be on this list though? Late 5th iirc.

Agree he is there because of his last name, but that was Not a draft pick mistake. Whatever you get out of a late 5th is gain, and he has been a decent ST player in his tenure.

And he was drafted prior to Kahn's promotion to GM so there's that too

3rd round picks are high upside projects not instant starters. He is a rookie that came from a program that is allergic to passing. Give the kid time to acclimate. We are WAY WAY to impatient with picks.
Not impatient......the guys above him are just ******** the bed. I guess while they are below the line in actually running the ball they at least can pass protect. Maybe this weekend is week the Warren balls out like so many posters on here have said he would over the past fews years if he was our starter.

If we want to actually want a successful season collectively we need him to bump up his production. 44 yards per game while averaging a smig of a smig above 3 yards per carries is well below the line. I will say he probably is do a big game. It will go a long way on us winning Sunday if he does.

Get it done Warren!!!!!

Well, one reason and it's not as significant in Arthur's offense which is run and TE heavy, even in the passing game. Personally, I dislike it especially when you don't have a Tier 1 running back or TE. Couple that with an average offensive line zone blocking for a downhill style running back and the offense just isn't fit for purpose. WR#2 solves for none of this, it only provides yet another target that Aaron can't throw to due to smelling the turf through his helmet's ear hole.
Smith's offense is also not very good. He hasn't been very good except when he had an all-world Derrick Henry and two capable receivers

Mike Tomlin: "The rookie RB can't play because he is not good in pass protection."

Also Mike Tomlin: "I thought our LT did a much better job of picking up the QB after he was smashed yet again due to feeble blocking by the LT."

I don't know where you can get the transcript from his presser's, they were killing him on sports radio after the presser for blaming the defense for the running game being bad.

I heard the same **** on my radio, my interpretation was “blaming the defense for the offensive running attach,…….. “ Had to listen closely because of the ridiculousness of the Tomlin speak.

Being up 14-0 was a prime time for the Kaleb train. A 2/3 blind snail could see the finish-line, yet……..

Turtle ball ruled in the end, looking at how effective that was.

A reporter asked him about the struggles in the run game at around the 15:15 mark and he actually blamed his defense for not being able to get off the field so that essentially his offense could establish a rhythm by having more possessions. He believes the inability for the defense to get off the field was creating a trickle down affect. There's nothing wrong with him saying that it just doesnt account for all the issues, but its just as big a issue as anything else. Obviously theres blocking schemes and effort to boot also, but those guys need reps and its hard to get that when they're sitting on the bench for a large majority of the game.

3 and 0s are the reason for lack of rythm, what a stupid excuse. Maybe the D is always tired because the O can't stay in the field? How about that?

Both things can be true

Agree, still the ineptitude on Offense can't be the excuse of the highest paid D that was built for historic success

LOL, how about you stay on the field to get your running game going? Leading 14-7 they call two pass plays, 1 run, then punt, so 3 and out. Defense gets an interception, then we go pass, run, pass that gets intercepted. Then we force a fumble, we get the ball, we start with a holding penalty, then we go run for -1 yards, then two passing plays, then punt.
Yeah I mean, I'm not sure how that isn't the defenses fault there, Tomlin is an absolute genius.

Word Salad, Obviously.

It all starts with the OL and they aren’t doing so well. Players seem lost out there and if that ZONE run block isn’t working for many years, why not MAN -up and go man on man.

Why keep pounding square pegs into round holes……………. Pat Meyer isn’t getting it done, throw him away and let me OL coach, I couldn’t do any worse.

Fire Pat Meyer and they really need to revamp the entire scouting department because how in the world did Broderick Jones end up getting drafted much less the first rd? There's no way he could have hid what he is now while in college if sufficient scouting was done of him. No dawg in him, no natural instincts to play the game, multiple times seen not blocking anybody, technique all over the place. Mason McCormick isnt much better. If we weren't talking about BJ we would be talking about him. BJ just reminds me of a guy who plays football, but doesnt have a real love for the game. He plays the game to make a living but prob doesn't watch or have anything to do with football outside of that. The sad part is he did fairly decent his rookie year and has regressed ever since.

That being said I've seen enough ALL 22 to know that Gainwell and Warren are not naturally instinctive runners. Both too often lack vision for my liking. Warren gets too caught up in running a play pattern where its supposed to go rather then running too daylight wherever it is. Arthur Smith deserves some blame but sometimes it really is the players execution.

I dunno, the way you build fences makes me question your ability to build defenses. :ROFLMAO:

You haven’t seen a fence I’ve built, if you had………. You’d still be trapped inside…………. LoL

I am not down on Warren at all. I think he has done a pretty good job under the circumstances. Better than I expected based on the mistakes the line has been making. If they ever become cohesive he will be fine. We do need KJ to eventually step up but I am in no hurry to rush him. The more we have the same back in on all three downs the less they can key on personnel changes against us.

Simply thought the standard was a bit higher than where Warren is. Maybe his vision isn't what everyone thought it was. Maybe getting the bulk of the carries is affecting his productivity. Or maybe it is what you stated. OL issues.

Looking at it now I feel silly actually expecting more than 3 yards per carry from our RB considering everything in a whole.

The Oline coach should have been canned in the offseason. The reluctancy of the team to move on from coaches remains IMO the number 1 reason for the unit and teams overall struggles.

I think we will get there, as I have opined I think the zone scheme is taking longer to gel than it should and it has to be very in synch of there are no lanes. The Oline coach needs to get these guys working together.
