We’re Limited by Schematics! Per Tomlin, WTF!

In his weekly dog and pony show Tuesday Tomlin said his defense is limited by schematics. What does that even ******* mean???
Perhaps with the new players he’s making excuses that he’s limited with what he can do? Idk, but I’ve never heard a coach talk that way.
 
Isn’t him and his Staff responsible for those schematic plans?

He acts like it’s a surprise and someone else is responsible for what his job is to do.

He continually make excuses for his eneptitude.

Sure the players have some accountability in this, but the players are a direct reflection of the teacher.

Everyone can see through word salad except those who chose not to.

Other teams owners and coaches laugh behind his back, he has nothing for quite some time.

Why do you listen to anything he says? He is like every other coach, if you would listen to their press conferences. They say whatever, even if it doesn't make sense, just to get it done. And they rarely get challenged, because they just get a pisser on, and that ends it. I read somewhere one time that being an "inside" guy for sports teams isn't easy, because if you challenge too much, they just shut you out. Then you get nothing. And the cycle continues.

It's just sports. At the end of the day it doesn't mean much in the goings on of the world. Which means they have no obligation to tell the truth.

You have to wonder if other teams hear the praise he gets, but really don't fear playing his teams. I mean, they have to shut up because going against the narrative won't fly, but they look forward to the increased chances of a "W" when the Steelers are on the schedule.
 
Schematics are all coaching. Get out of the D, Tomlin, and let a new D coordinator craft the D with schematics that might work better than yours the past several years. You must adapt and change, which you apparently are afraid to do or refuse to do.

It's a rare admission of structural and organizational concerns in both player readiness and in the coaching approach to defensive play design. Rather than making rapid adjustments, Tomlin is clinging to familiar tactics that are not working against contemporary NFL offenses. Couple that with the fact that the Steelers rank near the bottom of the league in missed tackles per game means that fundamentals aren't being coached and or made a point of emphasis. There are clear communication problems resulting in players out of position and overall confusion on who is doing what.

Also, Predictability and exploitable weaknesses with defense have opposing teams targeting the same play designs against the Steelers successfully.

Points allowed per game: 29th
Yards allowed per game: 29th
Passing yards per game: 26th
Average time of possession: 27th

If I'm Art Rooney I'm pulling the coaching staff into my office and asking them what the **** I'm paying for?
 
Oh im sure he's saying the defensive guys can't pick up the schematics so they're limited in what they can do schematically, if only he had the highest paid defense, then he could break out those super complex and amazing schematics to become a historic defense.
 
Several years ago, Mason Cole was our starting Center.
Repeatedly through the season, he was asked to chip to the left or right, then immediately move over two gaps to pick up a rusher where the tackle was vacating.
Every damn time that rusher came free right up the middle because Cole couldnt make that block

Pouncey made that block... Pouncey was a borderline HOF center with unreal athleticism.

We never adjust the scheme to fit the player
We just keep getting new players hoping they can meet the unreal expectations of the scheme

How many CBs and ILBs have we cycled through the past half decade? Is it that all of those guys( some successful players elsewhere) are bad players or is the scheme just not realistic?

I was watching the lions oline last game. They were moving in unison, passing guys off, turning defenders, and getting downfield a few yrds. Our oline goes backwards and just seems to have no rhyme or reason. The players can not all be that bad

Pouncey just made it through the first set of HOF nominations. Dawson was better in his era, sure, but Dawson was huge for his era, but he was 6-2 290... Pouncey played at 6-4 304 and still made all those wild pulls...

Pouncey gets hate because of his injuries, a couple bad blocks that got overhyped on forums, and mostly PFF ratings... cause PFF hated him back in the day.
He still was one of the best Centers in his era..

He could make blocks most regular centers couldnt.

When you have a guy who is exceptional, you can have schemes that incorporate that ability... but you cant run that when they arent available anymore...

Its like the secondary with Troy...

That next man up bullshit is not realistic... adapt to what you have...

They let so many gaps for defenders to exploit... its not a cohesive unit yet at all...

Entertainment! I like listening to him constantly making a fool of himself. He’s running out of excuses.
I also listen to the idiots of the Democratic Party continue to tell lies as well. They too make fools of themselves. That’s entertainment too!

This guy acts like he’s asking these players to design a ******* rocket. It’s football for Pete sake! It shouldn’t be that complicated. That’s all we’ve been hearing now for years. Communication problems! Are they morons?

Dude... Pouncy was NOT that good.

Decastro was awesome,, but too small body of work imo.
 
He blamed new faces and injuries, something every team deals with to a degree. I think he was just making excuses for his vanilla schemes designed to minimize confusion, which can lead to negativity, which would be rich considering there are weekly communication issues.

McConnell and Flores are going to put this team in a blender in Dublin.
