Browns' Pettine: Josh McCown favorite to enter camp as starter

Browns coach Mike Pettine said in a radio interview Monday that it's "fair to say" that Josh McCown will enter camp as the team's starting quarterback, the Northeast Ohio Media Group reports.

Pettine had said in April that he wasn't ready to name McCown the likely starter for anything, but after the Browns came out of draft weekend without a new quarterback on the roster, it appears the former Buccaneers starter is in line to open camp atop the depth chart at the position.

McCown started 11 games with the Buccaneers last season, completing 56.3 percent of his passes while throwing 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Johnny Bench had no comment.

Well if the help at corner is productive maybe we can help boost his interception total to some real meaningful levels which would be nice.

Why are we even wasting space on the board talking about perennial last place teams? Must be to fill the comedy quotient for the board. With the Pirates, Orioles, Clippers, and Royals actually having good teams now, are the Stains the new gold standard for ineptitude in North American pro sports?

Bengals haven't won a playoff game since when? 1988?

They should have kept Hoyer. McCown has never proven to be a reliable starter, yet continues to get opportunities. I don't get it.

So much for Manziel being the heir apparent. He won't learn anything from McCown, ask Mike Glennon.

since when haven't they been?

1990. Funny enough though, the Browns have a more recent playoff win in 94 when Bellicheat was their coach. Then they didn't have a team for 3 years and rebuilt as a new franchise, and still have a more recent win than the Bengals. Too funny!!

yea, what was wrong with Hoyer? He has potential to be a good QB, could provide some stability. What is that, QB #23 since 1999?

Talking about division opponents is better than rehashing the same tired arguments about Tomlin, Colbert, etc.

I would say it's highly relevant as the Browns nearly beat the Steelers 2x last year.

I would hardly say he's the heir apparent or new messiah, but with how badly that organization handled Hoyer last year then turned it over to Manziel was a disaster. I think we all would have rather faced Johnny Rehab instead of losing one in Cleveland with Hoyer on fire.

At least they didn't get Glennon from TB and fortunately they dumped Hoyer. There go 2 wins against us from last year!
