LMAO, Tomlin with pure comedy.

It’s about fans hating on coaches when they go stale. Stop grievance collecting, it’s such a tired play.

If anything, Tomlin is adored by the national media BECAUSE he is black. They pilloried Mike McCarthy for years as they praised Tomlin for actually doing less.

BTW, are you OK with black folks tossing around the n-word like it’s going out of style?
Why would I be ok with that?

Truth hurts 💔 and clearly u were born yesterday so I get it. Either that or you're probably one of them that's why youre clearly triggered or why get so upset?? You're too late to tell me different. I've seen it firsthand...but let you tell it.
This comment shows plain as day if you’re looking for r*cist people on this board or in the fandom, the best thing is to look in the mirror, only a handful of miserable dbags like you still think this way

Tomlin is not a good coach no matter his color. He's been fortunate to coach Pitt. He was fortunate to inherit a sb ready team in 2007. When Cowher's personnel started leaving so did Tomlin' s playoff success despite leading the league in pro bowlers between 2011-2021 with 52.

He can't keep inheriting sb teams and should have been gone in 2015. I stick by that .

Yep, this pretty much sums it up, I think Tomlin is a decent coach, but that's about it, he's not great, he's not a HOF coach, he's middle of the road. And yes, even though a lot of media and Tomlin backers hate to hear it, it's absolutely 100% true, as Cowher's players and coaches left so did Tomlin's success, I'd love for anyone to try and argue against that.

He's definitely not middle of the road and he definitely will be in the HOF whether you feel he deserves to be, or not.

I never said he wouldn't be in the HOF, I don't think he deserves it, but he'll make it.

He will be a HOFer. I don't think he should be, either. I think Tomlin's best quality is taking the messes he makes and turning it into a competitive team. So they will look at his record, especially recently, and say he got a lot out of the talent he had. But he acquired that talent! So he will get credit for cleaning up the mess to some degree, but won't get blamed for making the mess.

I know I get ripped for this, but I don't blame him for his conservative approach the last number of years. I don't think he's had the talent, especially at the QB position. But it's not a defense of him. He acquired/approved of the talent! I think he needs to held more responsible for that, but he gets a bit of a pass because we get so upset at the dumb gameplans.

He can't hide this year, though.

You're spot on, that's always what you hear, he does so much with less, well the roster they are calling less is his roster, and the defense has been the highest paid in the NFL for 5 years now, and just gets embarrassed vs good teams.

He took that conservative approach when he had Ben in alot of games as well, but he had a QB that will at least be a HOF candidate last season, and was coming off a 98 rating with Denver, and didn't throw a single redzone INT in 2023 with Denver and he still went conservative, the one game(at Cincy) where we put up yards and points supposedly is where Wilson kinda went off script and Tomlin couldn't stand that and put the shackles on Wilson the rest of the season, so bad that in game 2 at home vs Cincy, Wilson had something like 9 passing attempts total heading into the 4th qtr in a game we were trailing in the most of the time.

What would be the excuse for his conservative approach on defense? A unit that is highly invested in both in draft capital and salary cap space. He takes a ball hawk and deploys him 20 yards from the action because he’d prefer death by 10-15 paper cuts than be aggressive and possibly get slashed.

His entire nature is conservative and getting more conservative year after year. The league has changed in one direction and he keeps
Slowly plodding along, but in the wrong direction…it takes a damn long time to reach the desired destination when you’re heading in the wrong direction.

I wouldn’t go that far, but I think the game has passed him by. The minimizing of risk at every turn can have a paralyzing effect on a team and I think has led to some of the playoff choke jobs. You do anything scared and looking over your shoulder, you’re not likely to succeed.

Switzer and Seifert both inherited great teams that then won another SB, I don’t hold that against Tomlin. It’s not like he went 7-9 with those great teams.

He didn't have an offense that can get into a shootout with an opponent. He didn't trust his corners...one still pretty young and other one wasn't that good.

Look, if you have an illness, you want to know where it originates, what causes it. I think his conservatism as of late is a result of his failure in talent evaluation. It starts there. That's why this year is so interesting to me. He cannot hide. They have given him talent, albeit older, but it is there. No excuses. Let's see what he does with it. If he continues to be Captain Conservative, well, you will be right.

Regarding shoot outs the Cinncy game would say otherwise…but he’s too comfortable living in house of fears unless forced out of it from it being set on fire.

I see his conservative nature as a trend he has been moving more and more towards for years on both offense and defense. It very well may be directly related to his higher influence in roster construction coupled with his poor talent evaluation that he has painted himself into that corner. It is hard to watch though and I think it runs off on the players.

Way more fun to watch guys pinning their ears back and going for it and let the chips fall where they may.

It could also be he’s playing so close to the vest for fear of losing his precious streak of Tomlinships, that burden must be immense almost two decades in.

Just ready for better and hope he gets hungry for more or can embrace change soon cuz we’re stuck with him for at least 2 more seasons minimum.

Fiji, GREAT post, thank you

You are right in that a team takes on the higher ups persona, HC is a higher up.

Several of “Cowher’s” exiting players complained about lackadaisical practices etc………..

I’ve felt that has been present from a very long time ago, could see it in on field play and coaching abilities.

Nothing will change, for better or worse, until he is gone. It will take a monumental approach to try to reverse the existing culture by the NEW head coach to be.

Until that change happens, I will root for him, but more importantly for my beloved STEELERS.

Salute the nation

I dont see how this team is any better offensively. Khan failed again to secure a reliable second option at wideout. If DK goes down you can expect a losing streak again for as long as he's out. Despite AR being the best QB they've had since 2019 he's still above 40, and the offensive line is still a big question mark.

Idk. We'll see. He would have to be so deep in his own world and so comfortable to not recognize the end of last year was a disaster and he has to change. Thats what I'm hoping for. No one could be that obtuse, could they?

I'm also thinking the players that they have acquired won't put up either his more recent ways. There is hope in that.

Nah, he’s a good coach. He’s just not a great coach. You don’t get as far as he has being a bad coach. I think he gets in his own head too much which causes him to get in his own way, and results in some of the messes we see on the field. That said, the Steelers could have done much, much worse.

I have said for years that he is a C+ to B- coach, better than average, but less so in the games that matter. He is a solid B to B+ coach during the season, because his philosophy works more than it doesn’t against a mix of quality teams in the regular season. When they get to the post season it doesn’t work against the quality teams you face, especially when his teams are the least qualified to be there. He gets a D grade for post season performance. He gets a D grade because I feel that is the lowest grade you should get since you did get to the playoffs.

With the perennial hostage Ramsey on board
DK who has had his share of sideline outbursts
and…
The Future HOF aloof QB Rodgers on board too this season has the potential to be the best post Ben or a raging dumpster fire, likely 9-8 or 10-7 when the dust settles.

Hopefully it is at least 🍿 worthy

Oh it could be, no doubt. But it's sunshine right now! I'll worry about the dumpster fire if it happens.

I wonder if AR will go into the hall as a Steeler
