if you were subject to *** beatings three times per day, every day of every year, then suddenly those *** beatings were curbed to once per day, would that make it ok? I mean, that's a significant decrease in your head being curb stomped.
Associated Press tried to fact-check Trump’s D.C. crime claims and it backfired spectacularly

The Associated Press thought they had Donald Trump cornered on his Washington, D.C. crime statistics.
They rolled out their typical "fact-check" treatment, ready to debunk another Trump claim.
But the AP just handed Trump the biggest gift imaginable – and they probably wish they could take it back.
AP’s "fact-check" proves Trump was telling the truth about D.C. crime
The Associated Press published what they labeled a critical fact-check of Trump’s explosive press conference claims about Washington, D.C.’s murder rate.
Trump had stood before reporters and declared that "the murder rate in Washington today is higher than that of Bogota, Colombia, Mexico City, some of the places that you hear about as being the worst places on earth."¹
The White House even posted charts showing D.C.’s murder rate at roughly 27 per 100,000 residents, compared to Bogota at 15 per 100,000 and Mexico City at 10 per 100,000.
The AP surely thought they were about to demolish Trump’s claims with their trademark "context" and expert analysis.
Instead, they ended up confirming exactly what Trump said.
The AP grudgingly admitted that "Washington does have a higher homicide rate than many other global cities."²
The AP piece even conceded that Washington is "one of America’s most-dangerous big cities."
But here’s where it gets really embarrassing for the AP – they tried to salvage their fact-check by arguing Trump was "leaving out important context."
What context exactly?
That other cities in Mexico and Colombia also have high crime rates?
That doesn’t change the fact that Trump’s core claim – D.C. has a higher murder rate than these major foreign cities – is completely accurate.
Trump’s team didn’t just throw out random numbers.
The administration backed up their claims with data from a Rochester Institute of Technology report showing D.C.’s murder rate at 27.54 per 100,000 residents in 2024.³
That’s higher than the 25 per 100,000 calculated by the FBI.
Even the AP had to acknowledge that D.C. ranks seventh nationwide among cities with 250,000 or more residents for murder rates.
Trump showed charts at his press conference comparing Washington to "Baghdad . . . Panama City, Brasilia, San Jose, Costa Rica, Bogota, Colombia" and noted that D.C. was "double and triple what they are."
"Heavy drugs. Mexico City, I mentioned Lima, Peru, all double and triple what they are. So do you want to live in places like that? I don’t think so. I don’t think so," Trump told reporters.⁴
The numbers don’t lie – and even the AP couldn’t make them disappear.
You can almost feel the desperation in the AP’s fact-check as they scramble to find something – anything – wrong with Trump’s presentation.
They nitpick that murders in 2023 were "high, but not the highest ever" after Trump said it was probably the highest rate in 25 years.
They point out that Trump blamed cashless bail "despite an absence of data."
They note that some other Mexican and Colombian cities have even higher murder rates than the ones Trump mentioned.
But none of this changes the fundamental truth that Trump articulated: America’s capital city has a murder rate higher than major cities in countries Americans typically think of as dangerous.
That’s not an exaggeration – it’s a devastating indictment of how Democrat leadership has failed Washington, D.C.
This AP fact-check disaster comes just hours after Trump announced his federal takeover of D.C.’s police department under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act.
Trump called it D.C.’s "Liberation Day" – and now he has the Associated Press inadvertently backing up his justification for the action.
The nation’s capital has been plagued by rising violent crime since 2020, when there was a nationwide 30% increase in murders.⁵
Shoplifting and attacks on government employees have persisted even since then.
Trump repeatedly called Washington "horribly run" during his campaign and promised to "restore" the capital.
The AP’s own research validates what Trump has been saying about Washington’s crime crisis.
This isn’t just a political embarrassment for the AP – it’s a complete validation of Trump’s law and order message.
When even the Associated Press can’t debunk your crime statistics, you know you’re dealing with an undeniable crisis.
The AP thought they were fact-checking Trump.
Instead, they just fact-checked themselves right into proving he was right all along.

Reminds me of our company mandatory DEI training a couple years ago. I was apparently not worth a piece of dog **** on an old ladies shoe back then. Things are much better now. Hopefully I can retire before this wheel come rolling back around
The corporate HR person over my state is a black woman who always has to mention that she has a "wife" in conversations.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I've only had to deal with her for medical leave for my knee replacements but being a straight white man I try not to attract attention to myself. I can retire in two years.

Same. Our retirement will be based on when my MIL passes on. Puts us in the hard position of trying hard to hope she doesn't. Strange place to be.
Our Asst. Principal is married to a lady. She keeps it out of conversation, so kudos to her. It just is not a thing. We do have one dykish teacher, who has a "wife" and she flaunts it. Turns out this teacher is on an emergency license, and doesn't even have a degree. AZ put itself in a bad spot by ignoring teachers for too long (strange in a state with a dem governor), so the teaching crisis is bad here. They will take most anyone who wants to do it.
