I guess he is upset about some clause in his contract, so he returned to Texas A&M.

WHAT?!?!?!

Cincinnati Bengals' first-round draft pick Shemar Stewart has reportedly left the team and returned to practice with the Texas A&M Aggies.
Stewart could reportedly apply for a waiver with the NCAA to play the 2025 season with Texas A&M and re-enter the 2026 NFL Draft.

This has been going on for months, but the Bengals tried to sneak a clause in that they could cut him and not pay the guaranteed money. A clause that has NEVER been used before by any NFL team, and one his agent (rightfully so) refuses to agree to.

He has many options since the NIL deal is now in effect, he can return to college, he can sit out a year, but either way, the Bengals would lose their rights to him at league year end and he would be eligible to enter the draft again.

My friend was telling me about this the other day that they havent signed him and what not. They also havent extended Hendrickson who could hold out as well. The Bengals are potentially a SB caliber team and totally butchering their chances. Supposedly the rumors of him working out at A&M are false, but we will see....

I read an article yesterday that said it’s possible he could return to college but Cincy would still retain his rights next year. It sounded like they would retain his rights, but it would cost them a draft pick next year. Someone in the comments said they should use their last pick and then he would cost them next to nothing, because of the rookie pay slotting, then turn around and trade him for picks in 27. If he wants to sit out again, he would be another year away from the NFL.

It all boils down to guaranteed money. Only professional league without guaranteed contacts...

The NFL needs to get to the guaranteed contract, I’ve talked about this for years ago. It is completely do-able but the owners know they can’t slink out of guaranteed contracts as opposed to today’s contracts.

You’d see way less “giant” contracts, but you would see a significant increase in over all talent across the board.

You’d also see more “safety” rules installed and dramatically enforced.

Salute the nation

I don't believe he has the option to return to A&M..

I believe players forfeit their remaining eligibility once the deadline to withdraw from the draft passes...and certainly since the draft is over that deadline has passed

True... he does have the option to simply sit out a year and reenter the draft next season or to threaten that then demand a trade

.... my guess is that some team will probably give up a second round holdout for him... he wont get a first back after all this.. bungles gotta bungle

Yep NIL is screwing up the NFL... well I mean the second round pick holdouts at least... this is Cinci being ******** and paying the price
that 2nd round list has a lot of names well liked in this forum pre draft. Dodged some bullets

Typical Brown family ridiculous, cheap *** move.
You have arguably the best QB and one two punch receiver combo in the league leading up a very potent offense that stands toe to toe with any offense in the league.
What do you do…. Ignore your defense. I’m not saying the defense has to be one of the highest paid but you need quality pieces here.
Pay the kid his guaranteed money, sign Hendrickson, and compete for a SB.
I guess Brown thinks he’s paid Chase and Higgins and thats enough.
Penny wise pound foolish!

It's hilarious because it's the Bengals, but then I think about it, they've won 5 post season games since Ben retired, we've won 5 post season games in the past 15 seasons :(

Even your time stamps.? Instead of BC or AD, you use PB and BR pre ben and Ben retired.

It would be very Bungle-y if Cincy picks him again next draft :)

He can't go back unless NCAA changes rules, unlikely. Or maybe he sues NCAA and he wins in court, good luck. The language the bengals want in contract is used by other teams sometimes, not new or different, but Bengals have not used it on 1st round pick before.

No, it has not been used on any first round pick by any team ever. This is a clause you give a guy like Pacman Jones, someone who has a history of getting in trouble.

If he doesn't play in 2025, he can re-enter the draft in 2026 and be drafted by any team BUT the Bengals.

Didn't mean to say or imply it had happened before in 1st round, just that it has happened before with many teams including Bengals. Yes it's normally for those with checkered past like Pac-Man or burfict or Henry, etc. And I don't think this guy has been in any trouble, so not sure why. Guess will see if he or Bengals cave 1st.
