Kaboly says Steelers Listening to trade offers for Watt

Yeah. I don't blame TJ all. I don't blame the Steelers for not wanting to pay it, either. It's all business, and even more so because this group hasn't won anything. I just don't feel the same loyalty to these guys like I did the '70s guys or the later Super Bowl winning guys.

TJ will make or has made more in one contract than the entire Steelers roster from 1970-1980. Boy times sure have changed.

Mark Kaboly old triple chin himself said on 93.7 The Fan on Friday that he’s hearing the team is listening to what other teams may be offering for TJ Watt.
Mixed feelings on this one for me. Good business sense tells me don’t pay him more than Myles Garrett at soon to be 31 years old.
On the other hand I’d really hate to see TJ play for another team. Seems like he was born to be a Steeler but you’re taking a hell of a chance on TJ having more productive years. You’re paying him for past achievements.
I’ll believe it when I see it but that’s what Kaboly is saying.
I read somewhere the Browns were offering multiple 1st round picks....🤪

I hope we don't break the bank to pay him what he's looking for. It's not like he's 25. If he goes somewhere he can get a ring, it's not going to be in Pittsburgh, and we get some help rebuilding the foundation it's a win-win situation.
Watt just might be forcing the Steelers hand on exactly that. Ask for more $$$$ than you know that the Steelers will be willing to give to get traded.

In the end. I simply let him play out his contract and perhaps franchise him the following year. Gives us 2 more years of his service. Watt holding out doesn't help his cause....but it is an option for him. He sees how the Steelers have caved over the last decade on moving non-volunteers.

So, a hostage, not a volunteer?

Indeed, can’t blame either side for trying to represent their own best interests…and couldn’t agree more.

Hard to be ultra loyal to a group that’s won Jack squat-at some point ya just have to say “it ain’t working” and move on…sometimes a change of scene is what’s needed.

But with the current Art Nutting standard, he’s all too “glad” with, maybe he’s more loyal to TJ for ensuring all those Tomlinships.

My first reaction is that Kaboly is trying to make himself look relevant.
Agreed.

They have the money to pay TJ and trading him leaves a GAPING hope on defense unless they are ready to pass the reigns to Herbig???

I'm growing my hair back until we win a playoff game...

He is such a great player and appears to be a great person, too. So it's tough. But another thing, for stuff you read, it seems like TJ is a more lead by example kind of guy. That's great if they have enough get in the face kind of guys. It seems like they don't or George Pickens may not have acted like he did to the degree he did. If he is gonna get $40 million he'd better start getting in some faces.

I think the world oif TJ Watt. Great player. But if they trade him, it's ok. I acknowledge scheme and all that is a problem. However, beat the man in front of you in the biggest games. He hasn't, nor has any of the players on the Steelers, which is why I'm not really dedicated to any of them. If this was Troy or Hines or Ben or someone that won something, but it isn't. I bet every player who has ever played will tell you they have to overcome coaching sometimes.
If you are going to trade this player its because you know for a fact the incompetent coaching staff will not have a true contender while he is a viable player. He's an edge player. I remember him scoring one if the only TDs in Ben's last playoff against the Chiefs. Other coaches can strategize. He's an edge player. He can be eliminated with enough commitment. The problem is the useless defensive coaches cannot exploit the commitment.
I nominate Diver for galactically dumbest post of 2025. Any seconds?

Wait a minute. It has also been reported that TJ has not wanted to move around, therefore limiting to some degree the ability of coaches to strategize. I know there are other ways, but moving him to other spots would be a big step. Nowhere did I say the coaching was good. Players have to overcome it sometimes. Steeler players haven't in the biggest spots, including TJ. Williamson did a study of TJ in the playoff game against the Ravens, for example. TJ wasn't doubled or chipped as much as everyone thinks. He was, for sure, but he wasn't winning the matchups when he wasn't.

I've probably made some dumb posts that might qualify, but I don't think that was one of them.

No. That one is at or near the top. If TJ Watt should be gone for his playoff performance the Head Coach should have been gone damn near a decade ago.
In fact one of the reasons I wouod be ok with it, is that I don't think a player this great should have to be shackled with such utter incompetence.

I would be good with signing him. The issue for me is not the Steelers, but for TJ's sake. There is no SB for him (or anyone else) here. Love the guy. I want him to hoist the Lombardi.

Will he seek money or championships?

My guess is $$$

And the Steelers will eventually fork it over being “just glad he’s our linebacker”

Maybe he’ll get that elusive first playoff victory this year so he at least gets one before he hangs em up

The closest anyone gets to “getting in faces” in this version/brand of the Steelers is opposite ends of the ping pong table.

No shiit. Seems like you want to be offended. I don't quite understand what offends you. Does it bother you that I think Watt is also responsible for his lack of big plays in playoff games?

I know the coaching sucks, but somehow he has achieved over 100 sacks with this coaching staff, and has just one in the 4 playoff games he has played in with the same coaching staff. He didn't have a stat in the playoff games against the Ravens this past year. A stat!

Again, I think the world of the guy. Great player. If they were winning big games it would be different. They aren't, and I just don't have the same loyalty to these guys like I did the '70s guys or the Ben, Troy, Hines and so on teams.

You can basically gut the whole ****** team then. Last year didnt end great. It wasn't up to his best. I know he was doubled not chipped. Doubled for a hell of a lot of the season.
I think you can like the move because I don't think anyone can possibly live up to that salary at that age. Or I think you can like the tmove because maybe this team realizes it has to rebuild. Though most of their moves don't signal that. But to want him moved for his performance. That's ridiculous. He's better then his brother and his brother won 3 DPOY.

Imo, there isn't a player on that team that would be untouchable. I'm stating a reason why they are not untouchable to me. They do not win. I'm not looking at it that deep. I can't answer why the coach who doesn't win is still coaching. He shouldn't be.

I really think that the Tomlin focus is to get good players, give them a vanilla game plan that can't be adjusted, and this will bring enough wins. Lord knows he can't coach them up, or adjust to meet their strengths well.

This is what Watt faces if he stays. If he goes, he runs the risk of being used better, and he might hoist that trophy. This is actually what I am hoping for him, as there is no way that he gets it under Tomlin.

I can speak for agree with all you say, but must add in………..

The players don’t care as much about winning as we the fans do.

For them, it is all about the money. TJ will try to extract as much as possible as I don’t blame him one bit. His market value is sky high and he is under contract this coming season. He could hold out until week ten then show and it counts as a season. The team could Franchise him next season which I don’t think either side wants.

If it gets to difficult, the Steelers will trade bait him for as much as possible, but like everything else with this organization they will attempt that trade to late. Most teams are set.

Salute the nation

Nah I’m over TJ.. the guy disappears late in the season.

I don’t care how nice he is… if he can’t show up when it counts we don’t need to lay him that much $$$
