My concerns: no tax on tips, overtime and social security all expire in 4 years. Party now, pay later.

There will be another crisis in 4 years.

No tax on tips should expire tonight at midnight.

Agree with no tax on 100% of overtime wages earned. Businesses should still be required to pay their portions to the government though. If they don’t want to do that then they should hire enough workers so overtime isn’t needed.

The largest portion of people who are on Social Security don’t pay taxes now.
 
The ss is only $6000 off the top. Not off of ss. Tricky.

almost everyone I know on ss pays taxes on it. Social security IS a **** ing tax. I feel like I am being double dipped every year when i file my taxes. I pay taxes on 85% of my social security because my wife is still working, which is bullshit in and of itself.

almost every president we have had has taken money from the SS fund and replaced it with an IOU. that is why its running out of money. where do people think most of the war on drugs money came from? and Reagan's plan to get the money back into the fund was to tax it. They knew they were never putting that money back and the only way to recoup any of it was to tax the Boomers SS checks.

And by no way am I blaming Reagan for the short fall in SS funding because like I said almost every president has dipped into it which was supposed to be forbidden to do, but it was Reagan that put the tax on it. he should have took all that money from the war on drugs which has been one of the biggest failures in American history told Nancy to sit down and shut the **** up and put it back into the ss fund and made it whole.

have been preaching for years. lets let business and employees win. Move ot to 50 hours. those employees that want extra hours get them. the business does not have to pay time and a half.

an extra 9.99 hours per week would be huge for most low income workers.

The Mrs. and I are both retired and still ponying up 85% on SS taxes.

The SS lockbox ended in 1967 when LBJ moved SS to the general fund so the deficit from the Vietnam War wouldn't look so bad.

Have you looked at filing separate? We did that for years prior to retirement. My wife made almost 3x my wages, so she took all the deductions and itemized, I just did the standard, we always did better that way. Now that we retired she gets SS and other investment income, pays no taxes because she is below the threshold, I have no income until next year. Sounds to me like you are part of the “Ritchie Rich” 🤣.

I have always been under the impression that Congress was paying interest on those “IOU’s” to SS. Maybe I have been wrong all this time.

The problem isn’t necessarily the program’s themselves, it’s the corruption of the politicians that is the biggest problem.

I have always been skeptical of a Convention of States because I believed the possibility existed for a worse outcome, now I’m not sure that it could be worse. Right now the pendulum is swinging towards conservatism, now would be the time. With the right “leadership” it COULD bring about much needed change.

As to taxing SS money paid out ...

I paid taxes on the income that was used to fund my SS contributions. The amount I paid in SS contributions is NOT deducted from my taxable income. Therefore, I already paid income tax on the income used to fund my SS contributions.

Taxing the money returned to me in the form of social security payments is therefore a double tax.

That was all slight of hand and misdirection.

The truth is Social Security is and always has been a Ponzi Scheme. There was never a fund and it has always gone into general revenue. Much like the Federal Reserve it's an illusion to allow them to print money and then say "we don't know why there is so much inflation."
