Rodgers Signing with Black n’ Gold

I will concede fans chanting may have gotten Canada canned. However, it seems there is more evidence to support that it didn't, or Tomlin would have been fired years ago. Maybe it had an indirect impact...in that it caused Tomlin to get his head out of his asss and see what was going on there. For all the "Tomlin controls the offense" narrative, guys like DK insist he is actually hands off too much. Something was mentioned around that time of Canada pretty much secluding himself in his office. Which is just as bad.

As it pertains to Pickens...to lay out that assertion...how specifically would you have handled it? Anybody can make generalizations.
The outcry to fire Tomlin never reached the level of Canada, the heat from the media and fans online is there, but the home crowd hasn’t chanted fire Tomlin-yet. I think the fan base is at an all time high in being fed up with Tomlin and if things go badly early this season “fire Tomlin” could be cascading down on him in Acrisure.

If there wasn’t someone in the draft then address WR twice in the early part of free agency-Metkalf and then someone else, when there were players available. Now we are sitting on a big chunk of cap space for the 2nd year in a row with free agency mostly over.

DK has criticized Tomlin for allowing Canada too much control but also for being stubborn in his approach to schemes. DK raved about all the awesome stuff the offense was doing in Latrobe last summer then the season started and the offense looked very similar to what they were doing under Canada. Who would the constant influence be in the offense to cause that? Tomlin boasted it was he who took out Fields for Wilson. He absolutely exerts his control over the offense and absolutely is responsible for it.

Serious question for you: you say you want Tomlin gone but you also feel compelled to defend him here when you think he’s being unfairly criticized. Why would you defend someone who you say you think needs to go?

I left mine out in the weather this past winter, and now I'm deciding on just replacing the whole thing, or spending a week or so to refinish the top. It looks like one of those "we rescued this grill from the center of Chernobyl and are gonna refinish it back to new" type videos. The "good" news is that it isn't a REAL blackstone, just an off brand griddle top.
I kid not the easiest way to clean your griddle is by using a block of ice and a griddle stone. get it as hot as you can, put the block of ice on it as the ice is melting use the stone. get the blackstone seasoning season it about 4x and you're done

So I can't speak for him, but I can give you MY answer to this. There is PLENTY to criticize Tomlin over, so much so that there is no need to make stuff up, or single him out for things that applies to all coaches. It's when people start to pile on just to pile on that it gets tiresome and redundant. I've defended Tomlin on certain things as well, but I've also wanted him gone following the 21-22 season, and my choice was Kevin O'Connell. I remember having the conversation with my brother when he asked who I would replace him with, and without hesitation it was O'Connell, then the Vikings hired him (not that Tomlin was or will ever be fired).

As per the WR, there is still time, maybe they eased some of that with Jonnu Smith, and I don't think they want two massive contracts to WRs, which is what they may have had to do if you address early in FA. I don't think outside of the 1st round there was that guy, and I'm not giving up Harmon or Johnson for a WR.

I agree about Tomlin and his schemes. I don't know, but I think his approach with Canada, if true...very hands off to the point of being unaware, for lack of a better term, might be worse than exerting control. That shows a guy way to damn comfortable. I don't know how he survived the whole Canada debacle. He shouldn't have.

To your last point, it's a legitimate question. I stated in another post I'm an older guy. As such, I have responsibilities and people who report to me. I'm done with the bullshiit stuff that is really in the weeds and has too many holes in it. Give me the indisputable facts. Those cannot be argued. Tomlin hasn't won a Super Bowl since '08, he hasn't been to one since '10. He hasn't won a playoff game since 2016. Canada. Losing to bad teams. He can't hide from that. Saying he needed a great performance from a player to win a championship? All coaches need that. It's silly, and falls apart upon further inspection.

Tomlin's seat really should have been lava-hot after Blake Bortles and Crew hung 45 on him in a home playoff loss but here we are 7-8 year later into the SCOTUS appointment.

Yeah...but the lack of a great effort by the QB is why they lost.
Nope. Playing a far superior team with a HUGE O-line is why they lost. That and a rookie WR not running his hot route during a blitz while the Steelers were coming back to take the lead. They could have won against that far superior team....Emmitt Smith held to 40 yards more or less of rushing. But hey, in Steeler fan lore it's always Neil's fault. 14 was a big part of why we were even there.

Sure, O"Donnell was a big part of that. Not taking that away from him. But two interceptions run back down inside the red zone yard line in the Super Bowl are tough to overcome. I didn't blame him for losing it, I never believe one player losses anything. But his lack of a top performance is a large reason they lost.

He was what he was: low chance of turning it over, completed the passes he needed to, and played smart.

It was a hell of a time for his receivers to let him down....first Hastings ran the wrong timing route on the first pick, then Holliday(who was a rookie) did the same thing on the hot. I still remember Neil almost in tears in the post game interview when asked if it was on the receivers saying no and taking all the blame on himself. And the reward for that was being shitted on for almost three decades now. In Cowher's book "Heart and Steel" Jaw tells us it was the receivers and not Neil who were to blame, but the hate of a simple answer "he threw the game!" has it's inertia that won't seem to fizzle out.

I'm not saying that at all. I know the issues with his receivers. This is a pure hypothetical, but let's say it was Ben. Does he throw those picks? What I mean is O'Donnell was a programmed QB...thinking outside the box wasn't his best quality. You go were the play is designed. What if he had just a little freelance in him? Maybe he picks his head up and sees Holliday wide open. That is what I meant about not getting a top performance from the QB. I never said he threw the game or any of that bullshiit. He was just limited in some ways and it caught him at the worst time.

I’d say it should have been before that. When they went in with that game plan against Tebow, you could obviously see it wasn’t working. Playoff game with no halftime adjustments. Absolutely ridiculous. Stubborn BS. Right then and there I knew what type of coach he was. I also knew Dick Lebeau’s game had passed him by.

And 4 years later they traded for Minkah to get that safety help that Ike so desperately needed in his historically bad outing.

One day I have to rewatch this game. I was so pissed off. Ryan Clark not playing was big. Many of our guys were in their 30’s,and you knew it was almost the end for them. Yet they still had the number one defense that year. Our offense was average at best.My favorite Troy P was starting to look a little more ordinary. Ike had a game that probably haunts him still today. The sacks killed us as well.

I have a blackstone and the best tip i found is after you are done cooking take some water and dump on it then scrape it. I have a griddle stone, but I just use a metal spatula. After its clean while it is still hot I just put a thin layer of avacado oil on top and shut it off. At next start up I will heat it up put some more avacado oil on it and just wipe it off. As for re-doing the top you can get a wire wheel for your drill to remove the seasoning, then just re-season w/ the blackstone seasoning. One of the biggest errors I made at first was I was using too much seasoning and it was becoming sticky.

never tried Avacado oil might have to try that. I know another mistake a lot of people make when using the blacstone seasoning is not letting it quit smoking before applying the next coat. I get the griddle as hot as I can put on a thin layer and just sit there and watch till the smoke stops. I usually repeat 3 or 4x and nothing ever sticks

Yeah I didn't say you said that he threw it, just saying that's the stock answer to what appears baffling if you are a casual fan. He was a system/timing QB and those guys have to be at the spot the ball will arrive to. Ben could have just as easily thrown those picks(as he did many times) Now If it was young sandlot Ben ,sure he probably finds the open guy who is running the wrong route, that wasn't O'Donnell though. Again: he was what he was.
