Dan Pompei is reporting that Randy Gregory recently weighed less than 230 Lbs when taking a pre-draft visit with an unidentified team. Now, given that this is the time of year when all kinds of "information" is leaked by teams, do you believe this is true or an attempt by a team to send him into a free fall? The kid did have problems keeping weight on at Nebraska.

Also, the last known team he has visited with was the Steelers. Are our guys even wily enough to start such a rumor?

Edit: As I think about it, some folks want to move a 237 Lb Mack LB to safety because they say he's too light for ILB. What the hell would we do with a less than 230 Lb OLB?

Just when I start to warm up to the guy, this is a little bit of a concern. Not that he can't put the weight on, but I'm tired of seeing our linebackers manhandled out on the field.

Sure he can put the weight on, but can he keep it on? It's a valid concern if true because he has a history of dropping below weight in college.

Heck, maybe he's lost the weight because he no longer has the munchies ... j/k .. kinda

,bring Casey Hampton as a nutritionist for him. Problem solved

He won't be there when we pick anyway. He'll be picked in the mid first probably b the Saints I/m thinking. Damn, the guy I want is Bud Dupree but he too will be long gone. Too bad we have so many needs on defense or I'd say move up but they just cannot afford to that this year.

if he's diagnosed with a spinal injury, he's a lock to the steelers.

Gregory is never going to be a big run stuffer. He's going to be Jason Taylor. Taylor was terrible against the run because he was too thin, but who cares if you can rush the passer like Taylor.

Jarvis only weighs about 230 and he gets manhandled like a ragdoll out there. Just say no to light weight ***** linebackers!

Pass; if this true...

Well if he played at 245 lbs last year he was manhandled none the less.

I picked Gregory in the mock draft, sorry that rumor had to be done....one way or another.

:towel2:

when was this? because he missed most of the season with an injury, which we have hashed out time and again.

if Gregory is there, and no CB is deemed better, we should take him. Age has a funny way of making a guy gain weight.

Gregory is the guy I want the most in round one. Apparently he was blown away when he saw the 6 super bowl trophies. I think he fits our 3-4 system to a " T " and knows it.

Must of been when he came back and was playing basically ONE handed

So THAT's why my extremities are fatter?!?!?!

If Jones was 245 when he was drafted, there is not excuse for him to not be at 260 by now with all of the added weight in muscle. Training in the NFL should easily bulk him up if he puts in the time and nutrition. If he is still at 245 or even 250, it is all on him being lazy and not taking things seriously enough.

Not to make this a thread about Jarvis ... but, some guys, no matter how much they lift or eat, just can't keep weight on. It has to do with their metabolism. My sons lift a lot for sports and my oldest is like that; lifts a lot but can't put on a whole lot of muscle. Strong, but not bulging with muscles. I think they call them "hard gainers". Now, I'm sure they could overeat like linemen do, but that tends to turn to fat rather than muscle. This scenario could apply to either Jarvis or Randy, which would make taking Gregory a weird pick since we need some OLBs with a little bulk (or so I've heard).

The difference is Jarvis is light and SLOW. Gregory is light and fast. Plenty of thin, fast guys have been successful pass rushers. Jason Taylor and Dwight Freeney come to mind.

Taylor at 6-6, 245 was definitely a thin and fast guy. I don't know what Freeney's weight coming out of college was, but his profile at NFL.Com has him listed at 6-1, 268; not so thin. Gregory, at 6-6 was already naturally lighter than Taylor. Reports are that at times he slipped under 220 Lb while at Nebraska. That's not light and fast, it's "rail thin" and "hey OC, run to my side".

I'll have to agree with the buckeye on this. Besides no one is fast when they have been enveloped by an offensive tackle or when they are on their back.

Jones has arms like a DB, and the might have been the slowest linebacker drafted. Gregory is very tall, quick as a cat, and looks soooo much better on film.
