Pittsburgh adding more hotels in hope to host a superbowl

I'm all for more hotels. I'm an out of towner, and more supply equals cheaper rooms on gameday weekends. That would be it though.

No, Ron. Tell us what you really think...

I don't know that we need THAT many more hotel rooms, stadium only seats about 66,000, I realize you have all sorts of ancillary types for a SB, but with all the corporate sponsors etc. you need A LOT of hospitality tents (I've been to NASCAR races, lotsa tents) that will take up probably most of the parking lots around the stadium. Then you have to cater and heat all of them. Year in and year out February is the worst possible month for weather here. Unless we're having the NHL Winter Classic, then it gets warm.

I think the pgh area had a little over half of the hotel rooms the league needs to pull this off, and that was counting all the surrounding areas... when fracking and other events are going one, many of those surrounding ones are off the grid months in advance. Its doable, and honestly the area can use some more good hotels to pull events, but Im still not big on it

For the super bowl you can get 150k extra people showing up In your town and thats what the league needs to handle hotel wise

Won't these new hotels sit mostly empty when there isn't a Super Bowl? I can see adding one more, but it seems like any more would be overkill. Maybe I'm underestimating the typical demand.

Hotels are to enable to city to host larger conventions. A Super Bowl wouldn't be a bad idea - Feb in Pittsburgh?? A walk in the park. Yinz are such jagoffs bout the weather.

well if they cut the entertainment tax and allowed more than 2 or 3 movies to film here with tax breaks per year then they could be filled up a lot... literally the city's/county's tax structure is as fucktarded as it gets
