Joey Porter, Mike Tomlin, Mike Nolan, Jon Dorsey, Scot McCloughan and Jeff Ireland were some of the big names on hand for the Missouri pro day. The Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams sent video crews to watch the workout.

Here's what I've been told.

While he did not test as well as his teammate Shane Ray, Markus Golden looked terrific in drills and really impressed a lot of people. Most felt he helped himself immeasurably today.

Shane Ray is fast and very athletic, but many feel he's to light to come out of a three-point stance and looked tight in his hips during drills.

Coach's take. The Steelers know the best edge rushers ( Gregory, Ray, Dupree, and Beasley ) will be off the baord before they select in round one. If you ask me there is no smoke in this visit. They are interested.

IMO Golden is a 3rd round type of talent. But our need is so great the Steelers might pick him Golden in round two. I strongly prefer Nate Orchard at OLB if here on the board for us in round two.

IMO, if we take him, we'd do so in the 2nd.
still hoping we take Lorenzo Mauldin in the 3rd, too

This should be fun...

One "take" at a pro camp does not a draft make.

they'll be many more

MARKUS GOLDEN, OLB
SCHOOL: MISSOURI | CONFERENCE: SEC
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE: SENIOR | HOMETOWN: ST. LOUIS, MO
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-2 / 260 LBS.

STRENGTHS: Shows the flexibility, athleticism and hand technique to beat blockers in space, using his quick eyes to read and adjust on the move. Plays with energy and a relentless style that makes it tough to slow his momentum, finishing with violence at the ball.

His big plays often come with a counter back to the inside, where he can out-quick and over-power blockers due to good agility, balance and core strength. Uses his hands well to deflect' blockers' attempts to latch on, showing good power to shock opponents back onto their heels with his punch.

One of Golden's most impressive qualities is his awareness in the passing game. When unable to get pressure on the quarterback, Golden times his leaps well and shows good hand-eye coordination to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage.

WEAKNESSES: Like Michael Sam, Golden sports a powerful, relatively compact frame rather than the lengthy athletic build scouts prefer at defensive end. Is not an elite rusher off the edge.

Along with teammate Shane Ray, Golden ranks top-five in the SEC in sacks (8.5) and tackles for loss (16) and has a well-rounded skill-set to play the run and get after the passer.

meanwhile, the next big day in the offseason - actual schedule dates

The 2015-2016 NFL Schedule will be released by team for all 32 franchises on April 17th 2015

I like Mauldin a bit better than Golden. Golden in round two is a minor reach, but Mauldin in round three is not.

Don't we already have on of those?

I think ours is a non rusher off the edge.

The guy sounds like an upgrade over jarvis. I am not so ready to think the sec is producing the level of players it used to. Gilbert, Jarvis, Sam for example are not exactly dominate players in the nfl but all came from the sec.

I know Bobby Bowden is not in coaching anymore, I am just wondering if other coaches have retired, been replaced that used to attract really good ball players? Could this be one of the reasons these highly ranked players are not all that. If their level of competition has taken a big drop they could be the best of that group but still not all that good, kinda like being the tallest midget.

I think we have a few of those guys...
It's the new strategy. Our players will be available and other teams will quit trying to sign them so we will be able to keep our own players with less investment or pay them franchise money as we wish for no reason.

C'mon guys. We have Jarvis! This is gonna be his year.....ha! Wholly ****! That was way out of bounds.

How many stabs are we going to take at OLB?

Seriously, we need a cover corner.

The rush was almost there last year, but with our 10 yard cushion at the start of the play, you are guaranteeing 4-5 yards a play on a quick out or slant.

Wouldn't be surprised if 2 of these are picks from 1st to 4th round.Kevin Johnson, PJ Williams, Jalen Collins, Eric Rowe

I like Golden a lot. I think he will make a better NFL LB'er than Shane Ray. What I love about Golden is his uncanny knack for fighting through the blocks of O-linemen and getting to the ball carrier. Something we are sorely missing.

He has agreed to pay a million dollars per kid, in the fine print it says a dollar a day for a million days.

I like Golden better than Ray. What do you guys think about Trey Flowers of Ark. in the 3rd or 4th?

Smoke screen. There were there for Lucas Vincent.
