Harrison, Steelers agree to 2 year deal

I think it's an awkward situation for this regime because they basically told him in 2013 that he wasn't "good enough" for his contract (or even a fair long-term renegotiation w/ guarantees) but yet now he's been our savior at the OLB position for 2014 and 2015 (and possibly 2016).

Sounds to me like Harrison got the last laugh.

I'm glad he's back, but it makes me upset we can't develop or keep a player to take over his roster spot.

I don't see it that way at all. He was offered a pretty nice contract, more than what Cincy wanted to pay him IIRC and then after one year, they got him back at a minimum contract. I also don't worry much about him taking away a spot from a young player given our draft history at the position. Granted it could change at any time, but it's been spotty at best and Harrison can at least play some snaps. This isn't like a Cam Thomas, who is a complete bum on the field, keeping a roster spot from a guy like Mauro or Williams.

Manage his reps in training camp. Clearly he doesn't need much work. He needs to be in playing shape but it will be about avoiding injury.

Good news and I'm very happy they didn't think about waiting until training camp because he probably wouldn't be available by then. The not so old man is going to have a nice season for us. This time he will be ready unlike last season when he thought that he was retired. He's working hard and look great so watch out. This guy I like to compare his dedication and training to a Jerry Rice. He's all business and a workaholic. Watch out in 2015. It would be great to be able to land Bud Dupree in the draft to learn under James and mentored by both James and Joey.

if he gets 6 sacks he goes out all time #1, a record that will likely stand for 2 decades unless we get Dupree, if he plays both years he is guaranteed to overtake Gildon on the list.

makes the most sense with what's available out there, for the Steelers and himself. Two years? If he falls off drastically, the carnage shouldn't be too great. Good news!

About the most balanced thing anyone has said about Harrison all off-season. I'm not predicting or hoping for a fall off, but folks, the man is a 37 year old OLB and there is a chance that a drastic fall off from last year's production occurs. And, while I'm not one to ***** and moan about too much regarding the Steelers, it says a lot about how much this defense has fallen that we are looking at a man who produced 5.5 sacks last year as a key signing. And yes, I realize that was in 11 games.

All that said .... Welcome Back Deebo!

His agent is characterizing it that Deebo's coming back in a "supporting role." Which is perfect, will keep him fresh, he can play in spurts as needed and provide much needed veteran leadership for the LB corp. Win-win situation if there ever was one.

Awesome. Not sure if he'll stay for the 2 years but at least this year similar to how Keisel turned out.

Just shows how little these players respect Tomlin.

You mean the Ray-Ban aviators aren't intimidating? Maybe get the mirrored ones like those southern sheriffs wear.

He's our best OLB.... That's scary. Hoping maybe just maybe Jones gets his **** together and actually shows something other then suck

Crap ... there goes this thread down the winding tunnel of "why we hate/like/are ambivalent to Jarvis Jones" ... lol

Most players will fall short when compared to Harrison. Some may get more sacks or have more natural talent, but that man has busted his *** and worked to get where he is.

Would maybe make a nice little movie..... :)

Awesome news!!!! I'd like to see him hit 7 sacks on the season.

I wonder how long it will be before the Steelers let Troy's agent speak to the ****....

June 1 because then they save more money under the cap.

Ok I just read this blurb from NFL Trade Rumors. Am I reading this correctly? It seems to say that Jarvis will be moved over to the left side and Aurthur Moats will be starting in front of him on the left? Or am I mis-reading it? Who would that leave starting on the right, Harrison? Something doesn't seem right there. Why would they put Jones and Moats both on the left?

"Third-year Steelers outside linebacker Jarvis Jones could switch to the left edge, reports Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writer Mark Kaboly on Twitter. GM Kevin Colbert told Kaboly newly re-signed backer James Harrison probably won’t move. Soon to be 37, Harrison was partially signed to mentor the Steelers’ young linebackers. According to Colbert, both outside backer slots and both cornerback starters are open competitions. But the GM imagines re-signed Arthur Moats will start on the left side after the retirement of Jason Worilds vacated that position."

I think you are misreading it. The way it reads to me is that Harrison will not move to the left side. Jarvis could move to the left side, however they see Moats as starting on the left. Your scenario would have Harrison starting on the right and Jones and Moats fighting it out on the left. Harrison's agent has already said that Harrison is coming back in a "supporting" role, not a starting role.
