Overpay Boyd a bit. Get him.on roster. Sounds like Oregon Center is dropping. I'd take him. Drop back if it was safe. Then use my extra third from Johnson trade to move up in second to get a receiver. My choice is McConkey. If still on decent terms with Cole I bring him in to back up.

What is the price tag on Boyd? Not sure what they offering and what he is wanting

There is certainly a gap there. They are being patient. Find mid ground. Basically gotta replace DJ's numbers. I think Boyd and quality rookie do. Easily. Then you essentially paid a fourth for a guy you will either start at corner or a primary sub package. That isn't bad.

No need to overpay for a No. 3 receiver, IMO. I also don't think Johnson is dropping, it's just not a high-priority position for NFL teams. Just looking at premium positions, here's everyone I'd expect to go before a center:

QBs: Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, JJ McCarthy
WRs: Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze
OTs: Joe Alt, Olumuyiwa Fashanu, Taliese Fuaga, Troy Fautanu, JC Latham, Amarius Mims
EDGE: Jared Verse, Dallas Turner, Laiatu Latu
IDL: Byron Murphy, Jer'Zhan Newton
CB: Quinyon Mitchell, Terrion Arnold, Nate Wiggins, Cooper DeJean, Kool-Aid McKinstry

Not a premium position, but you can include Brock Bowers in the mix as well since he's a special talent at TE.

Obviously it won't necessarily go down that way, but at best you're looking at No. 25 for the top center if only the premium positions go first.

Nice analysis. Concise, to-the-point. Can we risk not taking a C until the 2nd round?

It must be just me. All I hear is Boyd,Boyd,Boyd. For weeks now. We play them 2 times a season. He’s never stood out for me. Ever. He’s also had a guy that can chuck the pigskin. **** overpaying for Boyd. In my humble opinion.

At this point I'm really concerned about center. The fact that resigning Cole is even an option scares the crap out of me. I can see us reaching in the first round and that never ends well.

Over paying a marginal receiver like Boyd only complicates the situation.

I think Boyd is the best 2-3 on the market. Look at who he is with. Targets going elsewhere. You can't pay him as a one but you have that already. I'm confident he could put up DJ numbers without the BS.

I don't want them to overpay but if they're low balling it wouldn't hurt to anti up. They need two WRs and if they don't bring in a 2 and 3 they should draft them. If you want an explosive offense you have to have sound options...

I don't mean overpay by 10 million. Christ I just found out they are paying 4 million for Herbig oline. What did he get last year? Less than 60 snaps?

While I have no idea about this, I believe Boyd maybe suffering a bit of the Me'Veon Bell syndrome and may find himself sitting on the couch this fall because of it.
The Steelers are likely his best landing spot, if he doesn't blow that opportunity.

Any concerns about Boyd? He had his worst season last year and was less than 100 yards and 3 TDs behind Dionte Johnson. His QB played 10 games and he was behind Higgins and Chase.

IMO, we need to trade back UNLESS someone irresistible is there. We will be needing to replace Daniels, Herbig and Moore as their contracts expire after this season and Seumalo's contract expires after 2025. That's 4 of 5 starters we need to replace in a year or two. There is some good IOL depth in this draft but we need more picks. A trade back to 25 w GB or 27 w ARI would likely get us at least a few more picks in the first 75.
Some OCs in the draft are better projections in a zone blocking system and could be had later BUT we may give up the ability to anchor in pass-pro w them in exchange.
