the paper that shall not be named considers Steelers DE Cam Thomas a candidate for release.
Thomas was a bust be last season, losing his spot at left end to Stephon Tuitt. The Steelers have been ruthless with veterans this offseason, canning Brett Keisel while trying to shame Troy Polamalu into retirement. Ben Roethlisberger's enormous new contract won't help Thomas' chances of staying. His contract expires after 2015.
Great work Ed, Cam T's fat *** was brought to replace Kesiel and Kesiel has always played RE in the base. Tuitt started 4 games.

cut him and start looking for his replacement ASAP

sign REd Bryant to replace him

I believe the thinking is that we don't need the cap room that cutting Cam Thomas would create right now. So we can take him to training camp, and if he gets outplayed (or it's close) he won't make the final 53. Maybe he is the kind of guy you cut before the first game (so we don't have to guarantee his salary for the whole year) and then sign back after week 1 to a lesser deal.

I saw that article as well. Lets save the 2 million by cutting his fat ***. Red Bryant is out there and I think may be a good option at least much better than this slug. Landry Jones on the other hand is like the Dri Archer pick when you go WTF! Landry Jones was a complete waste of a pick who it wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit to can him.

the team could find a better option with the money he is due. But if you wait until camp maybe there's no one else left in FA

By waiting we won't have the money to sign someone before the guys get picked through. Then we will not have access to any of the cap casualties but we will have access to the guys that were worse than what the other 31 teams kept makes perfect sense.

Why cut a guy when you don't have to? We could sign a veteran DE and keep Cam as insurance for injury.

cause it seems like the team is going to sign a CB and I don't think there's much room left to sign two players. But of course I could be completely wrong

We always need the cap room.......

Keeping cam Thomas does not help us if his replacement gets injured he sucks we might be better off moving Adams over there to replace him at least he knows what it looks like to stop the run and get to the passer.

I mean why not go get the guy you wanted last year, Alex Carrington is still a free agent, you'd probably get him cheaper this year than you would have last year, once you do then you can dump Cam Thomas, heck I'd be more comfortable with the inexperienced Ethan Hemer playing than the lump known as Thomas.

All I know is this, Tuitt and Heyward better be our starters at DE this year. **** playing inferior people. Start the youngsters, its their time.

I expect McCullers to take the starting NT job eventually as well.

That's funny right there, I don't care who you are. You owe me a new cup of coffee.

I can't see them cutting him, unless they have his replacement ready to sign. Theoretically they don't need his cap space until we are ready
to sign our draft picks. If they pick up some DL in the draft and sign a free agent, he likely gets let go.

I expect to see a good bit of Tuitt, Heyward, McCullers and McLendon on the field at the same time. Just those 4 will get pressure on the QB. McCullers collapses the pocket almost every time. Throw in a blitzing LB and you might have something.

based on what we have in linebackers right now we may need to go to the 4-3

I could see waiting until the draft to see if they get a guy. I still can't believe they kept Thomas over Josh Mauro...

That couple with some savings elsewhere might be enough to sign someone worth adding to the team now, like a linebacker or a corner a position that we will likely need to sign more than one guy to the 53 that we don't have. Figure add one of each and draft one of each as high as they are a value.
