Let’s look at this through the Steelers front office lense whether we like what they did or we hate it.
Omar and Andy sign Russ to the veteran minimum where Denver is actually paying him to play here.
Best case, he plays well enough to get in the playoffs and win a game or two and gets you to AFCCG.
Worst case, he bombs therefore we cut ties very cheap, no dead cap hits, nothing.
Now to Justin! Plenty of potential, young, talented, perhaps needed to be in a better situation.
Again, comes in cheap for a sixth round pick in 25 that could escalate to fourth round if he plays 51% but that would require Russ getting hurt and missing extended time or just stinking the place up. Chances are he doesn’t get anywhere near that much playing time.
They won’t pick up his fifth year option at 25 million so look for an extension.
I’m luke warm on Fields and simply see him as a RB playing QB but we’ll see if that changes under Arthur Smith.
Now to Kenny! With all the controversy with Kenny saying he was promised his job back it was best to move on. He wasn’t a happy camper and it obviously showed so you have to move him.
They got the Eagles third round pick and only got rid of one of their fourth round picks. Not a bad exchange that now gives you two picks in the third round.
Now to Tomlin. I think they’re giving him every opportunity to succeed and now it’s up to him to coach and motivate these players and get them to buy in. We shall see!
Btw, in another thread I said yesterday watch out for Justin Fields. Figured they would go aII in his direction. Why not, he’s cheap and we needed an experienced backup.
