Keenan Lewis trade idea...yes, I may get laughed at

I would make damn sure he wouldn't be a malcontent. A deal with heavily laden incentives is what I would offer. That way, if they get to mid season and he throws one of his patented hissy fits and demands a trade, I would tell him that not only will he not get traded but his choices are to sit the last 8 games and lose a bunch of bonuses or shut the **** up and play if he is interested in getting his money. Only way I would consider taking him back. Dude seems like one selfish Mofo.

If we trade for him why not just keep his current contract?

Because for his three years left his charge is 1.5, 4+, 4+. Cap charge this year not that bad, it's the next two that are the problem

Now that they've traded a ton of guys and are farming for assets I could realistically see a trade. At the time of original post it was far fetched due to the state of their cap.

Obviously depends on price. I'd see no issue with approximately a 5th this year and a 3rd if he's on the roster next year as of March 1st.

There's a lot of value in his deal(2.5/5/5)

Deion Sanders tweeted today the Saints arguably have the best CB tandem in the league right now. Referring to Lewis and Browner. Would seem a stupid move to trade Lewis but going off what the saints have done so far it wouldn't shock me if they did.

They are working on restructuring his contract now. Oh well...

Really? For a starting CB 4 plus is to much? Wonder what Revis would say about that?

are you new to this board?

any player making more than vet minimum is making "too much"

They're trying to bring in a Saints CB alright. But it ain't Lewis (so far). Saints FA CB Patrick Robinson is scheduled to meet with the Steelers this weekend.

Knee issues...ouch

Two torn patellar tendons...

Patrick Robinson named New Orleans Saints’ recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award

Robinson’s teammates voted him as the club’s winner based on his work ethic and perseverance in successfully rehabilitating from two major knee injuries suffered in 2013, almost three months apart.

In June 2013, he injured his patellar tendon and underwent surgery and an ardent rehabilitation to return to the team in training camp. However, in the second week of the regular season in a contest at Tampa Bay on Sept. 15, he ruptured the same patellar tendon, which required season-ending surgery. He then went through more than 10 months of aggressive rehabilitation to return to the field for 2014 training camp.

Robinson, the club’s first round draft pick in 2010, has appeared in eight games with two starts in 2014 and has posted 19 tackles (13 solo), one interception, five passes defensed and four special teams tackles, to tie a career-high.

(USA Today)New Orleans Saints CB Keenan Lewis restructured his deal to put the team $1.7 million under the salary cap. An additional $10.4 million of his contract has been guaranteed, according to a source. The Saints converted portions of his 2015 and 2016 base salaries into signing bonuses, dropping his 2015 base salary from $1.8 million to $850,000 and his 2016 base salary from $4.25 million to $2.7 million. His 2015 cap hit is $4,500,000.

Yup that one is dead too. Not sure who they are going to sign at DB but I can't believe we go into the draft without bringing in a veteran to help with depth. Boggles my mind actually.

Chop this one up to the "Steeler way" and player loyalty. They could have been made some moves to free up the cap and bring in players to make this a better team, but they insist on letting players play past their prime and retire here.

It might be that they didn't think Robinson was worth $2m-$3m and nothing other than that. Seems as if other teams must have felt the same way if he wasn't being brought in to other places and/or signed there.

what are we chopping and why ?

Well for 1, we're waiting on a player to decide if he wants to retire (which he probably won't) who should've retired 2 years ago. The way it's looking right now, we're probably going to have the worst secondary in the league going against the top QBs in the league this year. Should be fun.

And how does that have ANY bearing on us not signing a CB? the money wouldn't be available until June regardless of whether he retires or we cut him. Robinson signed a one year 3m deal, when we signed McCain last year, we signed him for vet minimum, he had just been graded out as the WORST CB in the league according to the site you all love to use to rate players (PFF)...The Steelers obviously didn't feel either player warranted the type of contracts they both received and that's why they are not here, NOT because we don't have the space (because we do have the space to cover those contracts).

Sometimes bitching just to ***** causes you to have tunnel vision. The Steelers have a price they are willing to pay for a CB to come in and compete. I don't think they are looking for a starter in FA, just a depth guy. They'll look at Cortez and the draft for starting material. I for one haven't given up hope on Cortez, it's not like his skills suddenly diminished, he'll bounce back.
