Being reported Chukes was benched for complaining about the playcalling. Specifically run plays. Now I'm more than happy they moved Jones into the lineup, but it appears you can largely suck at your job or be kind of a ****** teamate......that's ok. Just don't question Shades or his minions.

He can say whatever. But when they saw that running game improve without him that had to weigh in. I would think it would...

DK sports had this very topic on today’s DK Daily shot Steelers.

He talked about Chuks being a very likeable person and pretty good player. Also talked about a lot of false rumors going out about this incident.

Chuks was benched with 1:40 left in the game, DK inquired what it was Chuks had said. He was told and then verified it from another source (so two sources in the organization) that what Chuks said was (not quote) “we should kneel it out”, the score was 20 to 10 at that time.

Coach Tomlin benched him immediately.

My take-
A player says a lot of things in the moment of battle and speculation is Tomlin wasn’t standing for that kind of attitude but also may have used that as a projector to get JONES into the starting line up. This scenario is more than likely the case in my opinion. It keeps controversy out of the equation, like it or not, a good coaching move.

Somehow I missed this; it does appear Chuks was benched for speaking or "acting out" as he says. Whatever the real cause, I am glad we have put our best players on the field and I believe Jones is better than Chuks. They overpaid Chuks to begin with, as he is a below average OT to begin with who was given a starting jobs out of having no one better, which is a knock on Colbert/Shades regime of not prioritising the OL enough.

Now, at least, we have our 1ST-ROUND DRAFT PICK PLAYING in the game. By next year, he will supplant Moore from the LT spot and maybe a draft pick will take the RT position. (But then again, I doubt it with this team's reluctance to allow rookies to start.)

Jones should absolutely be on the left side, but Tomlin said Moore is much better on the left than the right. Made me think he must be an absolute disaster on the right because he isn’t very good on the left. But regardless, just glad jones is on the field. He’s an upgrade either way.

I think they want to (right or wrong) protect Jones this year and the right side is the easier way to do it while also getting their best two tackles on the field. I would expect Moore to transition to right next year and Jones to left. They may pick up a tackle early next year but I expect we will see more focus on center earlier.

It’s not like Tomlin had any plays drawn up to help them win. Hell, he’s the same guy that takes 2 timeouts and 45 seconds into halftime many games.

Tomlin got butthurt

While he definitely said they should kneel out, I read yesterday that he also said something to the effect of “it’s not like they have any plays to win the game anyway.” And if that’s true, he’s not completely wrong.

Idk what he said but I know Tomlin has supposedly axed guys from the draft board for having defeatist or apathetic attitudes.. its a pet peeve that creates some logical fallacies at times in his strategy..

Having said that, chuks was an average RT paid like a LT.. we should be ready to move on from him… though Id rather Jones be at LT

Pretty sure that the second part “it’s not like they have any plays to win game anyway” is more likely then not, a rumor. DK has it pretty in-depth discussion on this topic and he has credibility too.

Anything is possible, but keep in mind that Chuks is a pretty decent sort of person.

I may be a loner on this, but I felt pretty strongly that JONES should have start LT from day one, including full training camp and pre-season. Moore transitioned to RT, full training camp and pre-season. Chuks kept as depth.

Let the man do what you brought him here to do.

Nothing like riding the pines. :) Are the benches still even made out of pine ?

Found the answer. Google is your friend. ;)

The arm and leg assembly is made of durable molded plastic. The seat and back core is pine wood with molded plastic sleeves providing protection and durability.

Just need a pic of Okorafor riding one now. LOL

The Steelers have a bit of a history playing guys in the wrong position. Look at what happened when they finally switched Watt and Dupree to their proper sides. Both flourished. Dotson is a PFF All Pro at guard now that he is back playing his natural position in LA.

We've all watched it for three years now.

Yep.....if you are a super star you can FB live stream Tomlin giving an after game speach. You can tik tok stream dancing on the other teams midfield emblem for $$$, but don't ever talk badly about the play calling to another teammate. Chuks simply forced Tomlin's hand on this one. Probably lucky he wasn't out right released.

Tribisky says a few words to DJ last year and Pickett is inserted as the starter. This year Chuks talks down on the play calling and Jones is inserted. Now I have no issue with them starting but damn.....why not on merit and not as a punishment for words another player may have said? Wonder what Tomlin would have done if he heard say Watt bashing the play calling.....lol.

Dan Moore allows countless sacks and pressures, doesn't get benched.

performance should have benched chuks. If he complained about the simplistic running plays and got benched, he lost his job for what 90% of the football world was thinking

That's right. As much as I hate it, it is a fact of life. The better you are, or the more valuable, the more will be tolerated. It goes on everywhere.

I do think it is a good lesson for young people. Try to make it tough to replace you.

The standard is substandard

Jones, in his start at LT, rated higher than Moore has all season. It’s these continuous gaffs by coaching that makes many of us here want change.

Sorry you will need to wait for him to say let's just take knees in the third quarter for that.

And to be honest.....I don't care who gets replaced Okorafor or Moore it's really a toss up. I just think with some of the **** that could have cost games like the DJ penalty. The countless Pickens gaffes.....you bench a guy for saying what the whole world is saying.......how does that play in your locker room.

I have a tough time believing this, not that then benching actually happened from it, but that Shades admitted it. How low is his self-esteem to bench someone over a simple comment like this? I hope and pray it was really performance-based and not Shades throwing a tantrum from a simple comment that 90% of the football world was thinking.
