Corner might be too risky for the Steelers in round one.

I like Waynes a lot, but he'll be long gone before we pick. Peters worked out like a 2nd-3rd round pick, and has character issues, though his film has a strong first round grade. FSU's PJ Williams was too slow, and fair or not, I smell a burnt MacFadden type of player who's slow and makes few plays on the ball. I DO NOT want Williams in round one. J Collins has upside, but only started 10 games. Very hard to evaluate. Kevin Johnson ran a little slower than I thought he would, is flag prone and on the thin side. But he's very quick, and can sky. I think Johnson is a bit of a reach from where we pick.

Buyer beware! And what if all of the above names are gone by the time the Steelers pick in round two?

Olamu in round two could be our best value. Very productive, but's he's short and hurt.

By our pick in round three three I project 8-11 CB's will be off the board. Getting a starter this late will be difficult.

UGH.

I agree that it will probably be wise to hold off on taking a CB until round 2 or 3. Might as well fortify other areas of the team rather than reaching for a position of need and ending up with something closer to a JAG than a good value at #22. I could see us taking one of the edge rushers even though there will be a run on those guys. The 7th best edge rusher might end up a better player than the #2 CB. I could also see us going with the safety from Alabama (Collins) or TE Maxx Williams.

I don't see us taking a lineman (either offensive or defensive).

Regardless of who we take in the draft, our 2015 season is going to hinge on the growth and development of guys like Shazier, Jarvis Jones, Shamarko, Tuitt, whoever plays LOLB etc.

If there is a run on edge rushers and corner backs I hope we don't reach for one and pass on better players for some other position. There are enough needs on the team to skip reaching and draft what is there. With the schedule and all the long distance games as well as Bell's suspension we will likely have a higher pick next year to spend on corner edge etc. The other option is to trade up and get someone as long as it does not involve future picks because they will likely be very high for a while.

Nice optimism! With our offense and the way the league is going I think we can compete and would not count on having higher picks in the future.

Little miss sunshine over here....

we can always trade down if the men we like are gone and the others are reach

IMO, if Collins is on the board, we trade down with Denver for their 1st and 3rd.
Collins is a good college safety. we've seen how Bama players transition.

I'd rather see us trade down and pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick. We are lacking depth at quite a few areas right now...we don't have a backup RB, we don't have a DE after Tuitt and Heyward (because Cam Thomas will be cut), we have one OLB under contract, only go 3 deep at WR and nothing behind Heath at TE. I didn't even mention CB. Sure, we will patch some of these holes in free agency (re-signing guys like Spaeth, Heyward-Bey etc.), but I don't think we should be sacrificing a 3rd round pick to move from #22 to #16 unless something absolutely crazy happens in the draft.

Bama has players like J. Jones, Hightower, Ingram, Lacy, Mosley and a ton other NFL players.

trade down to to late rnd 1 or early rnd 2 so we have rnd 2 via trade,, our 3rd + another 3rd

early round 2 CB Ronald Darby
rnd 3 OLB Za'Darius Smith
round 3 via trade SS Gerod Holliman/CB Marcus Peters
round 4 DT/DE

They will NOT trade down, write it down.

They will sit pat at their spot, then pick another player as a project in the 1st round.

Trent Richardson and Terrence Cody say hello.

I'm not against it, but I'd think two selections could be better for us than one borderline late 1st.

There are so many Bama players that get drafted you are going to find some busts. Give me the team with as many NFL players with fewer busts. Can't draft OSU players because of Mike Adams and Pryor. Can't draft Oklahoma because of L. Jones and S. Bradford. We're going to run out of colleges pretty soon. I don't look at the college when evaluating talent unless they are playing in a different division.

I didnt mean to get your panties in a wad. I was simply stating that we MIGHT be better off trading down for more picks. BUT, that I am ok with drafting him, too.

You didn't get anything in a wad. Why mention something if you don't care to discuss it? I have no problems trading down. But I don't see what that has to do with where they played college football?

wasnt there someone on this very board who showed that a good portion of the Bama players do not live up to expectations in the NFL? I believe there was.

Then quote it and I'll find a list of other busts from OSU like Golston, Bennie Wells, Bobby Carpenter, Maurice Clarett, Mike Adams, Pryor ETC...

Waynes absolutely ran himself to the top of the cornerback crop and I find it hard to believe the first corner won't be selected before the Steelers. Agree about Peters regarding quality film, but a slow time (though I think his character risk is overstated compared to some other players that have had red flags over the years). Collins has great size and speed, but everything I've read is that he needs time to develop, so there is some extra risk. I don't find any of the other corners good enough for 1.22.

I like your thoughts here Sup, but what makes your think Denver would be willing to trade up?

Im all for trading down, but this assumes someone is willing to trade up. Another issue is who wants to trade up. Are we willing to trade with a Baltimore or New England and let them get a guy they covet? Id love to trade back to end of 1st begining of second and get Jalen Collins or Quinten Rollins. Then take Marcus Golden at 2.23. If we stay put and all top edge rushers, Landon Collins and Trae Waynes are gone then i think best value left is TE Maxx Williams (excluding positions we almost certainly wont take in 1st round: QB, WR, OL, ILB).

Rahim Moore is a FA. With them having to pay Demaryius Thomas and find a TE or also pay Julius Thomas, their money is tight. They will need a safety. badly.

look, i understand that EVERY school has busts, but IMO (my OPINION) the way Bama players are touted, you'd think every single ******* one of them is the next HOF just waiting to be enshrined.

If we do take Collins, I'm fine with him.
If we trade down and get an extra pick, I'm fine with that, too.

Not sure what you've been reading but I've never heard that at all. People on here slam SEC players all the time. Most on here are Big Ten fans, Pitt fans or Penn St. fans. Not sure who you are listening too. How many more love fests do you need to go to over OSU players? Heyward, Shazier, Holmes ETC... The media slobber over all 3 of their QBs like they are all going to be NFL super stars. I heard how bad Bama's secondary was ALL YEAR. It was true but it sure wasn't sugar coated.

Like I said, I don't care what college they come from. I was fine with them taking Shazier even thought OSU has had a lot of busts over the years. I don't care.

and I'm NOT a Big 10 homer. I couldnt give a **** less about the Big 10.

here... let me rephrase my entire goddam sentence so you don't get so hung up on it:

If Collins is there, maybe we should try to trade down with Denver, as they may also need a safety.
