Shot Gun on 4th and1

But it was only fantasy
The wall was too high
As you can see
No matter how he tried
He could not break free
And the worms ate into his brain

I think everyone agrees....but know that there is no chance of Tomlin getting fired .....and with Canada there is at least a small chance he could. I am actually leaning in the direction where they don't fire Canada but take his play calling duties away. And have Sullivan say start calling the plays.
I am not even confident they will do that.

I'm not even sure it would be better. Sullivan has been the QB coach and KP8 seems to have regressed. The other option, Glenn Thomas, was supposedly brought in to help Canada develop an NFL level passing game. I don't see any evidence of that. Frisman Jackson as playcaller? It's been reported that one of the reasons Robinson was brought in was because Jackson wasn't "controlling" his room. Meyer the OL coach? No.
I don't know who they could turn to on the staff for the rest of the year, but they better figure it out by tomorrow. Preferably on the plane ride home (sans Canada). And, they should start looking around the league at Assistant Coaches who would make good OCs. smmfh ...

Can we get Caleb Williams if we go 2-15?

That would be worthless without a complete coaching change. The OC and DC definitely need to go.

And if the HC doesn't help facilitate that, then he needs to go as well.

It's not like I have any say so, but if you ever want to even sniff multiple playoff wins in a season again,it has to happen!

I know people are focused on the dumpster fire offense, but this defense is easily defeated when you negate the pass rush. If you can't do it blocking, then you go quick passes out in 2-2.5 seconds.

That soft zone they play way off the wideouts is toast without it. It's a one trick pony. If you add in they're god awful stopping the run as a group, you'll see a lot more games of them getting their *** kicked.

It normally drops off by mid season when teams get plenty of film on our never changing schemes. It's already starting now with the quick passes. The Steelers never changed and got carved up by it.

And the Texans have a bullshit line. Talk about getting outcoached.

So disappointing.

I know Tomlin wouldnt take over because if they stink he would have to take the blame. I think Kenny is shell-shocked right now. Every play he is feeling pressure even if there is not any. Not really sure who to blame for the regression of Kenny. The play calling / scheme is certainly not helping and I dont know how much freedom Kenny has. Best temporary shot would be to let Sullivan try. Things can not be any worse.

Careful they might accept that challenge.

What I dont understand is I would have kicked the FG there to make it a one score game. Obviously we didnt make it, but later on we had a 4th and 1 or 2 and the game was still w/ in reach. Time was not on our side, but there was still a chance and we punted. If we had any legit shot at all to win we needed to score there, but coaches gave up at that point

Point of clarification. Shotgun snap is 10yds, pistol snap is 5yrds. These are pistol snaps.

That being said, still dumb as **** to do this on an NFL football field with an opposing D run blitzing the **** out of you...

when the opposing team's fans are saying wtf when your team lines up for a 4th and 1 play

something is definitely wrong

I was watching Cochran showdown late last night. They actually made a good point. Omar Kahn revamped this team to be physical and play smash mouth football. They have the players to do it on both sides of the ball. The problem is the staff, especially Stable Genius continues to finesse the football. The 4 and 1 was case in point. Najee actually ran pretty well but we line up in pistol. Bring Washington in motion to lead block and maul the ********. Same on defense, how many times did we blitz yesterday? You have a rookie QB. Yeah, he is going to be a good one but put someone in his face. They are still playing soft. The team has no identity.

I posted this in a thread as well. There was a clear direction from the front office with Seumalo, Jones, and Washington all brought into build around Najee. The coaching staff didn't build a scheme around the personnel during the offseason.

Look, on a 3rd or 4th and 1, I don’t care if they pass, hell I don’t even care if They occasionally take a deep shot in that scenario… you absolutely don’t want to ever be utterly predictable… but what I absolutely despise is setting up in a pass formation, telegraphing the pass, then running exactly what you showed…

Go under center in 21 or 22 formations ( we don’t use them at all, btw) and then even if you pass, they will definitely be in a run stopping mentality…

Actually, in almost every college and NFL playbook, the shotgun is 7 yards and the pistol is 3-4 yards.

That was further proof that Mike Tomlin is likely the worst situational football coach in the league. Problem is, the Rooney's are rich, and their product sells regardless of record. Anyone thinking that things will get better needs a psych evaluation. We suck, that won't change any time soon. We are in for a LONG few years with Captain Quotebook in charge.
