When Herbig was drafted I think the fans didn't factor in 1 thing.

His crazy bend. How flexible he is just helps his cause against the run and pass.

No reason not two rotate him and Golden in keeping Watt and Highsmith fresh going into the 4th.

You can teach the hand swipe, swim move etc. But you can't teach people to bend at a 90 degree angle, maintain their balance and spring back up. They should call him slinky.

I was probably 75% convinced they would move him inside, love to be wrong about things like this. Nice post slash.

That bend is special, it does remind me a little of James Harrison, he had a great bend as well.

Herbig can and will be a successful draftee, I’m glad we got him.!!!

I din’t know much about him in the beginning but have read up somewhat.

Keep on. TruckiN

Not sure if it's been posted yet but TJ has been working with Herbig for a couple of years now. They both went to Wisconsin.

Great reminder as I’ve read that too. TJ is a great teammate and person.

And I know it's easy to forget, but Khan had a 4th round pick because he traded down from 80 for 93 and 132. He used those two picks to get Darnell Washington and Nick Herbig.

Carolina used pick 80 to get edge rusher DJ Johnson from Oregon. Johnson is 24 years old and most well-known for punching an Oregon State fan in 2022.

Yeah that was covered in draft of threads and is definitely notable. When you have the best mentoring you it sure doesn't hurt. Still that only gets you so far, you have to have a certain god given ability. How he is almost parallel to the ground while keeping his balance is crazy. Most would have been eating grass or just not dipping that low. I don't want to cap him to just a backup with this ability, perhaps one day he is a starter. Regardless it is a nice problem to have capable depth. I can't wait to see how that helps in season.

Interesting enough both picks have attributes that will help their cause getting onto the field- playing time. One with his flexibility the other with his ... well I hear he is a big guy. 😅

In the red zone Washington should be coming away with TDs or pass interference calls if the ball is placed right...

Good gosh, not just the bend, but the burst! He manages to get both feet back under himself and LAUNCHES himself towards the QB. On top of that, the video shows the tackle clearly false starts.

….and I love the fact that he seems like such a nice, humble, appreciative, coachable kid.

Obviously through camp and preseason he has been more than expected. My question is can he play consistently at current weight against the best or does he need more bulk and if he does will he lose speed.

Guys that are slim - JPJ, Herbig, Pat Pete - have a tougher time keeping weight on during the season, no doubt. I don't think those players benefit from adding weight before the season, however. Protein shakes, lots of bananas lead to good weight during the season.

I meant more the 10--15lbs of wink wink weight.

Harrison came to mind when I watched a few replays of this guy. Long way to go before putting him in that echelon of player but hopefully he'll be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.

He’s wirey

The Replacements————————————- You’d remember that from first hand experience………….

Hold your horses there Hoss———- No one was puttin g him in that echelon just yet. I’ve always been one to maintain that they have to play in real games first and then more than just one or two————.

Great post by the way.

It's all good boss. I didn't mean to infer that you were putting him in the Steelers Ring of Honor this week. I'd probably wait till after Thursday's game. ;)

With a bend like that, dude must win every limbo contest he enters... assuming the bend works in the other direction. How low can you go?

I know it's gonna take some time for things to actually shake out, but this is looking to be one of the best drafts of recent years.

2022 - 2023 drafts have a chance to be historic. The entire '22 class (save for the 7th rd. QB) are all integral parts of the team now.

just curious was there a flag for holding on this play. cause Damn.

If there's one thing Herbig didn't factor in is that he'll be forbidden to use Watt's signature high kick celebration after a sack. Thats a no -no!
It does sometimes enter my mind if Watt could ever pull a hammy doing that. That would be devastating!
By the looks of it I wouldn't anticipate that ever happening to Herbig!

Joey Porter injured himself executing his signature "kick the grass" celebration..............

Good problem for us to have with a little depth behind Watt and Highsmith. They find a way to bring Herbig in at the same time and we're gonna see some heat.
