He's Not Wrong

Totally disagree with the talent assessment. I think we have been far less talented, particularly our depth, than people think. We have had some stars but I really think Tomlin and Ben made a lot of players look a tier or two higher than they really were. This lead to teams making the playoffs and losing that wouldn’t have made the playoffs normally. Just my opinion but there is quite a bit of supporting evidence based on the careers of many players after leaving Pittsburgh not going as well.

Agree to disagree, I hold Coach Tomlin accountable and will continue to do so.

Cowherd is a wanker (to borrow a pejorative from across the pond), and he's just pointing out what's been obvious (and a painful reminder) to Steeler Nation for years. The postseason has been this team's Achilles' heel. Maybe 2023-24 will be different, what with a new GM, veteran FA faces on the roster, and a confident young QB. But if this trend continues, I don't know how long the organization sticks with Tomlin, regardless of this winning season streak that has put only 1 Lombardi in the trophy case.

He certainly has had his issues but injuries have been the biggest issue in our playoff losses and to a large degree those and the lack of depth are not something he can completely control. Salary cap had a large amount to do with the depth issues. Losing Shazier cost us a lot and not just that season. Not sure who to blame for never adequately replacing him, Bush being a major attempt. I just think that given the lack of depth he does done an incredible job keeping us competitive in a league designed to punish winning in the name of parity.

May be we should fault him for not being willing to lose more to restock. Not sure I can blame a guy for that.

I can blame a guy for having the 2 best skill guys in the league in the prime of their careers, WITH a hall of fame QB. Alot of coaches could have done much more with the pieces he had. Bill Belichik would have won 3 or 4 superbowls with that talent.

I don't know if those guys would've done well with Belichick. I do think he's a good defensive coach, but Brady was the main element in the offense and a huge reason why talented players they signed put up with Belichick's style. Now if you're talking Andy Reid, absolutely. He's been excellent with different QBs and teams.

Running a defense that is dependent on talent and not scheme, refusing to adjust to what the other team is doing and preferring "weapons" to trench players are major reasons for this teams lack of recent success.

And that does fall on Coach Tomlin.

Playing prime players too long in a determined game, run them till the wheels fall off, hire bottom barrel “friends” (I’m pointing at Matt Canada) for cordinators,………………………………………… the list continues……………

If he (shades) gets the accolade of a never a losing season, then he also gets the accolade of shittttyyyy PO record as well.

This
and he is painfully bad at making any in game adjustments when things are going badly, or how about simple clock management in other terms 3rd grade math!
We get stomped and Tomlin gives some speech on how we don't live in our fears, or deviate from the gameplan when its doesn't work.
Thank god Ben had 41 career 4th quarter comebacks. Amazing how good he was when he was calling his own plays?

Read or heard a great interview with a player and coach who basically said that adjustments stuff is all a load of crap. No one is making halftime adjustments in the locker room. It is too late by that point. Think it was Williamson and Lolley's show.

Not sure I am buying that Kool aid. 😁

I'm pretty sure Peyton Manning said this on one of his shows.

This guy has THE WORST TAKES…Cowherd is a clueless & classless clown.

Ya’ll see his show a couple days ago of QB’s who you can’t win a Super Bowl with ???

CLUELESS COLIN COWARDS take on Dwayne Haskins

I seen that and thought WTF, Dwayne Haskins………————- of course we aren’t winning anything with him.

I realize he was talking about when he was here but come on, it’s a one sided argument.

Not talking about halftime adjustments. Every week you see situations where a a player goes down and their replacement is immediately targeted (funny you bring up Peyton, he was notorious for it). Not the Steelers. Both starting dbs go down, they go run heavy. How many times have they come out with a game plan that plays right into their opponents strengths and refuse to change things up until they're down four scores? Consistently lining lbs up against outside receivers. Trotting out 2 DL when they're getting gouged on the ground. Situational football and in game adjustments have been abysmal for years.
