I just don't see us drafting anyone at 22 that's going to come in here and reverse things. Not going to happen. We really need a pass rusher and I just didn't see jones turning things around and giving us one. We'll have to depend on some hit and run ball hawking but I don't see the speed in the secondary for it. I'll just have to see and hope for the best but I'm not optimistic.

If we had just tanked the season (remember my "Shame Us for Jameis" campaign?), we wouldn't be in this predicament. Just sayin'

Who are you taking off the field on 3rd down then? We already have 2 DLs that are 3-down players in Heyward and Tuitt. I just don't see us keeping 3 big bodied DLs on the field when offenses put 3 or 4 WRs on the field. It would make us quite vulnerable to being spread out and it would limit our ability to blitz creatively.

That's just it a rotation on a four man front that can get pressure is better then blitzing. Getting pressure with out blitzing is the best way to stop these Passing attacks. You're not vulnerable on the backend. And we are still able to stop the run when teams spread us out. Which has also been an issue. If this guy is like Poe and demands a double team on passing plays too cause he will collapse the pocket from the middle if the center doesn't get help that's huge. We have got to back to dominating the trenches. McClendon is ok but not special and if Tuitt develops into a superstar( which he could projected top ten pick before his injury) McClendon is fine. But this kid could be special. The attention he would draw makes other around him better. This is all for naught anyway cause like the top tier pass rushers in this class he might not be there anyway.

We need a guy to push the middle of the pocket on passing downs, look where Brady stepped up into late in the game, the middle was wide open, that's where you pressure him. Baltimore leaves Ngata on the field to push the pocket, NE uses Wilfork, GB uses Raji. QB's hate to be pressured up the middle.

as for who do you take off? You take one of our useless OLB's, go with 3 DL, 3 LB's, 5 DB's.

Staying at 22 we may miss out and have take an OL, one of the CBs who move up based on the combine or trade down. Of course like I said its early.

Sorry, man, I might be a bit agitated. We've got guys on here going ballistic because someone (I don't even know who) suggested Lebeau might have "lost a step". And then we've got other guys who think the magic bullet for our defense is to get the next Casey Hampton and make him play 60 snaps per game (which Casey never did and was never capable of doing).

It doesn't add up. Lebeau could not be a genius and simultaneously so stupid that he didn't realize the way to solve our pass rush was just to put one more immobile D-lineman on the field on 3rd downs.

Casey didn't have to play on third downs cause he along with Aaron Smith ensured teams were looking at 2nd and long all the time. To the point teams stopped attempting even run. That's as big as issue with anything on defense. 2nd and long used to be the norm now it's second and 6 or shorter. We don't dictate to offenses anymore.

No, the talent on defense is irrelevant. The DC must call the special plays that create big sacks and turnovers no matter what scrubs are on defense. Obviously Seattle's DC got dumb late in the game and forgot to call the secret plays.

I'm sure some here blame Coach Tomlin for Seattle's slippage...

Gildon was a damn good player and was able to defeat blocks on his own. Haggans got sacks too because he had Porter on the other side and Farrior inside. You also had Aaron Smith, Hampton and Kimo keeping those LBs clean to rush.

Lebeau hasn't had any of that since Woodley got fat, Harrison got hurt, and Farrior got old.

What does it say that Harrison comes off his couch to be the best pass rusher? I don't care what scheme you use. No DC is smart enough to get free runs at the QB on a consistent basis. The best he can do is set up situations where guys are single blocked. Steeler pass rushers simply don't defeat blocks often enough or at all.

Jarvis is usually single blocked. He almost NEVER wins. When i say win, i don't mean sack. I mean getting around the edge or pushing the OT enough to influence the QB. Jarvis rarely does that. The vast majority of his "rushes" end with him stoned at the line or pushed way upfield.

When? He had 2 sacks in 7 games this year. Hell he had 3 games and never even recorded a tackle. The last game against the bungles he had 1 tackle. So WTF are you talking about?????

I started the thread and at no point was I going ballastic, the point was people were saying Lebeau was to old and the game has passed him by because our DB's play off the wr's. I brought up the best secodarsecondary/defense in football was playing off the NE war's, so the game must've passed their DC by. It's was a joke.

The difference when Hampton was here was we had LB's that could win a one on one battle and pressure the QB.

I think he had 2 sacks during the first three games and was injured in the third game (correct?). He also had 2 tackles for a loss and 3 QB Hits. When he came back for the last three games, I only see two assisted tackles and that is it. You can make of that what you will.
