I've read several articles that have highlighted that Hampton would not be as valuable in our current defense,
because we only use a true NT on 40% of snaps. Teams don't run as much anymore.

Teams are more pass-happy, but they also use a lot more 3 WR formations. That forces the defense to add a 3rd CB at the expense of the NT.
Count me as one of the guys who thinks it would be insane to draft a pure NT in round 1. That's also in part because I think Steve McLendon is more than adequate at NT.
I would not be shocked to see us go to a 4 -3 with really big linemen and do away with the nose position. Tuitt, Heyward, ends McClendon, McCullers inside and we then have a pass rush and the ability to play the run. With generally seven guys able to play a zone we might actually have better coverage. Right now the team has been using 5 guys or more to try and get pressure on the qb and to stop the run and it has not been working. Kiesel and Harrison were the last of our good 3-4 guys and they were at the end of their years and still looked better than what we had from the young guys. Might be time to try a new twist or an old one and see if we can not go back to the days of the steel curtain.
No it does not but it might sound better than Worilds, Heyward, MeClendon, Tuitt, and Jones.
There's not an elite pass rusher there either, Heyward wouldn't do as well vs athletic tackles as he does with Guards, he's not fast enough to beat them with a speed rush, he could bull rush them, but that would be his only move and they'd pick up on that quickly, same with Tuitt, of course there is no elite pass rushers in our 3-4 either. so no matter which defense we run, we need pass rushers.
If we go 4-3 where does Jarvis go? he's to slow to
play OLB in a 4-3, Timmons, shazier, spence could be LB's in a 4-3 I think.
